For the fastest Ryuji Sakamoto Chariot Confidant route in Persona 5 Royal, bring a Chariot Persona to each hangout and choose the high-point dialogue answers below. Ryuji’s Confidant starts automatically on April 12; Rank 5 is unavailable before May 6, and Rank 7 begins when you accept his evening text. This guide labels Royal-only phone answers and the Royal Insta-Kill perk so they are not mistaken for original Persona 5 behavior.
Where and when to find Ryuji
Ryuji’s Confidant starts automatically as part of the story on April 12. After that, guides place him near the protagonist’s classroom on school weekdays and at the Shibuya arcade on days off. RPG Site lists him as available during the day throughout the week, and during both day and night on rainy days, though individual rank events can have date or weather requirements. RPG Site’s route guide and GameFAQs’ Royal walkthrough give the schedule details.

- Rank 5: Cannot be reached before May 6.
- Rank 7: This is invitation-based. Accept Ryuji’s evening text and keep that evening available rather than trying to trigger the rank through a regular daytime hangout. RPG Site lists possible invitation dates as May 25; June 22; August 12; September 21; October 2; November 2, 4, and 11; and December 2 and 7. Treat these as possible game-calendar prompts, not a guarantee that an invitation will appear on every listed date in every save.
For additional relationship points, carry a Persona of the Chariot Arcana when spending time with Ryuji. The answer list below gives high-point options, not mandatory dialogue choices: the rank event advances when its requirements are met, and choosing these answers can reduce the need for extra hangouts. Exact wording can vary slightly by localization. See RPG Site and Prima Games for the route recommendations.

Ranks 1–3
- Rank 1: Begins automatically on April 12. Your choices do not affect rank progress.
- Rank 2: “I’m counting on you” or “You seem pretty excited.” In the next exchange, choose “Do you want to go back?” or “Do you regret it?” Royal phone: “You’re already fast enough,” “Are your legs okay?” or “It’s never too late, man.”
- Rank 3: “Let’s not fight,” then “Calm down, Ryuji.” Royal phone: “I can’t exactly blame you.”
Ranks 4–6
- Rank 4: “Are you worried about him?” then “I know how you feel” or “But you’re doing great.”
- Rank 5: “Protein powder?”; then “You seem conflicted” or “Do you want to rejoin?”; then “So he’s an asshole?” Royal phone: “Don’t worry. I gotcha.”
- Rank 6: “We can train at my place”; then “You guys should trust Nakaoka” or “There is no time for arguing”; then “Absolutely” or “More or less.” Royal phone: “So he should’ve punched back?”
Ranks 7–10
- Rank 7: “Let’s talk to Takeishi” and “I think it’s cool, Ryuji.” The follow-up recommendation is “Never know until you try.”
- Rank 8: “Things turned out for the best,” “All I did was watch,” and “You weren’t cool though.” Royal phone: “So. Case closed?”
- Rank 9: “Are you satisfied now?”; “Don’t do it”; “You’re right” or “I never realized that”; then “I agree.” Royal phone: “Congratulations” or “Better watch out for them.”
- Rank 10: The dialogue answers do not change rank progression.
What each Chariot rank unlocks
The table follows the rank sequence agreed on by RPG Site and GameFAQs, with later abilities cross-checked against Prima Games. One Prima skill table assigns some early abilities to different ranks, so check the in-game Confidant screen if you need to verify a specific skill in your edition.
| Rank | Reward or gate |
|---|---|
| 1 | Confidant begins automatically as part of the story. |
| 2 | Baton Pass: Ryuji can pass his turn after a One More. |
| 3 | Follow Up: Ryuji has a chance to attack after Joker fails to down an enemy. |
| 4 | Punk Talk: Ryuji may retry a failed negotiation with an upbeat Shadow. |
| 5 | No battle ability is listed; this rank opens training at Protein Lovers. It is locked until May 6. |
| 6 | Harisen Recovery: Ryuji may cure a party member’s status ailment. |
| 7 | Insta-Kill (Royal): Can immediately end an encounter after an ambush on a sufficiently weak Shadow, while still granting battle rewards. The rank is triggered by accepting Ryuji’s text invitation. |
| 8 | Endure: Ryuji may survive an otherwise fatal attack with 1 HP. |
| 9 | Protect: Ryuji may shield Joker from a fatal attack. |
| 10 | Second Awakening: Ryuji’s Persona evolves into Seiten Taisei. |
In Persona 5 Royal, GameFAQs describes Insta-Kill as applying to enemies at least 10 levels below Joker. Third Eye signals eligible enemies with a green outline. The perk grants experience, money, items, and the Persona as though the battle had been won normally; this specific threshold and reward behavior should not be carried over to the original game.

Rank 10 is not Ryuji’s third awakening
Rank 10 grants Ryuji’s Second Awakening and evolves his Persona into Seiten Taisei. In Persona 5 Royal, a separate Third Awakening can occur in the third semester, evolving Seiten Taisei into William. Reaching Rank 10 is not itself that later awakening. Prima Games covers the third-semester event in its Ryuji Confidant guide.

The dialogue route and rank details here are for Persona 5 Royal. RPG Site says choices it does not identify as Royal-only also work in the standard edition, but Royal phone answers and the Royal Insta-Kill behavior are edition-specific. ATLUS describes Confidants generally as deepening bonds that “will broaden and improve your abilities as a Phantom Thief”; its official Persona 5 Royal site does not publish Ryuji’s exact answer route or rank reward table. The route and reward details come from the walkthroughs cited above.
