Persona 5 Royal is an expanded version of Persona 5, not a save-compatible continuation. This spoiler-light walkthrough explains its core loop, how to plan calendar time and Confidant meetings, and the key community-guide deadline for reaching the additional semester. It is an orientation and planning guide, not a verified day-by-day route through every Palace, boss, ending, or trophy.
What Persona 5 Royal adds—and why an original-game guide may not fit
Persona 5 Royal expands the original game with new characters, areas, features, gameplay refinements, and an additional story chapter, according to PlayStation’s overview. Royal-specific additions and calendar advice should not be assumed to match an original Persona 5 route.

The game is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on Atlus’s title page. PlayStation separately lists PS4 and PS5 versions. Edition choices, physical availability, and digital storefront listings can vary by platform and region, so check the exact console and edition on the listing before buying.
How the calendar and core gameplay loop work
Your time alternates between school and social activities, generally during the day, and Phantom Thief activity. City activities include meeting people and pursuits such as shopping, movies, bathhouses, and part-time work. Confidant bonds can improve Phantom Thief abilities, as described on Atlus’s official site.

Calendar slots are limited, so decide what your run is for before following an optimized route. A blind first playthrough, a run focused on seeing as much content as possible, and a run that prioritizes a particular story branch can call for different choices. The cited GameFAQs walkthrough explicitly frames its schedule around seeing as much as possible in a first playthrough and leaving other material for New Game Plus; that is one guide’s goal, not a universal requirement.
How to get more from Confidant meetings
Match the Persona’s Arcana
A community GameFAQs guide recommends carrying a Persona whose Arcana matches the Confidant you are meeting. The guide says this earns extra points and can reduce how many visits are needed to rank up. Atlus confirms that Confidants matter to Phantom Thief abilities, but the point-boost detail comes from community guide advice rather than the official overview.

Choose a route style that suits your run
- Blind, spoiler-light play: use the Arcana-matching tip and make calendar choices based on the characters or activities you want to pursue, without following a full schedule.
- Content-maximizing first run: use a calendar route that states its assumptions and intended playthrough. Do not treat another guide’s optimization as a guarantee that it fits your version, priorities, or choices.
- New Game Plus planning: a route may deliberately leave some material for a later run; check what its author intends before treating omissions as mistakes.
How to unlock the third semester
A community Persona 5 Royal guide gives this key target: raise Takuto Maruki’s Councillor Confidant to Rank 9 by November 17 in-game to access the third semester. This is a guide-derived deadline, not an official Atlus route document. Follow a route made for your platform and game version if you need exact availability, meeting choices, or timing; this source does not establish every deadline or ending flag.
Difficulty: does it change the story?
Atlus says difficulty selection does not change story content. Its official guidance recommends SAFE or EASY for players who mainly want to experience the story and move through Palaces more quickly. That is a publisher recommendation for a particular play preference, not a rule for every player.
Rank #3
- Gather a team of popular heroes to face the armies of oppressors in exciting turn-based battles
- Lead a riot of hearts in a brand new story that plays in the legendary Persona universe
- Beat your enemies with powerful personas, a selection of weapons and defeat them in style!
- In addition to the game, the first edition includes a DLC code for 2 Persona games ("Orpheus Picaro" & "Izanagi Picaro") in the box
Save data, DLC, and platform-specific cautions
Atlus West’s launch FAQ says Persona 5 save data does not transfer into Persona 5 Royal. It also says Royal can recognize prior Persona 5 save data and award an item bundle. Recognition for that bonus is different from carrying a save or progress into Royal.
The same FAQ’s DLC and streaming notes concern the original PlayStation launch context. It explains access to original Persona 5 DLC for that release, warns that losing DLC rights can affect save-data accessibility, and notes a PS4 Share capture restriction after the in-game date of December 24. These historical PS4 details should not be generalized to current Xbox, PC, Switch, or PS5 releases; check the current platform’s documentation and DLC terms for the version you own.

Choosing a version or walkthrough
Check the game listing
Atlus provides platform and edition selectors on its title page, while the PlayStation page lists PS4 and PS5 versions. Compare the platform, format, and edition contents on the actual listing. Current prices, stock, and region-specific availability are not established here, and a copy or DLC license should not be assumed to transfer between systems.
Check what a walkthrough is designed to do
- Spoiler level: look for an explicit indication of how much plot and character detail the guide reveals.
- Schedule detail: decide whether you want broad planning principles or exact day-by-day directions.
- Run objective: verify whether its route targets a blind first run, maximum content in one run, a specific story branch, or New Game Plus.
- Version fit: check that its instructions are for Royal and apply to your platform or version where controls, DLC, or save behavior matter.
Community walkthroughs and online companion guides are available, but a current English-language physical strategy guide was not established by the sources cited here. Do not assume a particular book is official or in stock without checking its publisher and current listing.
