On the PC version of Phantom Blade Zero, enable DLSS in the graphics or display settings, then treat Frame Generation as a separate switch. Standard DLSS Frame Generation is intended for GeForce RTX 40-series cards; Multi Frame Generation (MFG) is the RTX 50-series feature. Start by making the non-generated base frame rate stable, compare the DLSS modes the game actually lists, and only then judge generated-frame smoothness against image clarity and control response. Menu names can differ between builds, so use the labels present in your installation rather than relying on a universal click path.

What do DLSS and Frame Generation do in Phantom Blade Zero?

DLSS is a collection of separate technologies, not one all-in-one performance toggle. DLSS Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames between conventionally rendered frames. Multi Frame Generation extends that idea on supported RTX 50-series hardware. Enabling Super Resolution does not prove that either form of Frame Generation is active.

NVIDIA’s official coverage of Phantom Blade Zero discusses DLSS 4.5 and ray tracing, but an announcement is not a guarantee that every distributed PC build exposes identical controls. A patch, driver, or hardware combination can change which entries appear. The reliable method is to identify the GPU generation, inspect the options your build presents, and verify the result with a repeatable in-game scene.

DLSS Super Resolution

Super Resolution changes the internal rendering workload and reconstructs the output for your selected display resolution. The game may offer several DLSS modes; their names and availability should be read from the current settings screen. Compare them for fine detail, moving foliage, particle edges, hair, and other motion-heavy areas instead of choosing solely by the largest FPS number.

Standard Frame Generation

Standard DLSS Frame Generation inserts generated frames alongside traditionally rendered frames. NVIDIA assigns this feature to GeForce RTX 40-series hardware. It can make motion appear smoother, but generated-frame counts do not automatically mean that input response has improved by the same amount.

Multi Frame Generation

Multi Frame Generation is the relevant generation feature for GeForce RTX 50-series hardware in NVIDIA’s compatibility guidance. It is distinct from standard Frame Generation and from Super Resolution. If an MFG entry is absent on an RTX 40-series card, that absence is consistent with the hardware split rather than evidence of a broken installation.

What do I need before enabling these settings?

You need the Windows PC edition, a compatible GeForce RTX GPU, current enough game and graphics-driver support for the options exposed by your build, and storage that meets the game’s requirements. The Steam PC listing specifies SSD storage. An SSD can satisfy a storage requirement and help normal asset streaming, but it does not unlock DLSS or any frame-generation mode.

  • Confirm the edition: These instructions apply to the PC version, not a console copy streamed to another device.
  • Identify the GPU generation: Check Windows Settings, your system-information utility, or the GPU manufacturer’s control panel. Record whether the card is RTX 40-series or RTX 50-series before looking for MFG.
  • Use the game’s own settings: Do not expect a generic utility or an SSD upgrade to create a missing menu item.
  • Start from a known baseline: Note the current resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing state, and the frame rate you see in a repeatable area. This gives you a control point for each one-setting change.

How do I enable DLSS and Frame Generation?

The exact menu hierarchy is not verified as universal across current builds. Open the graphics or display area, look for the DLSS entry that your installation provides, and then look separately for Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation. Apply one change at a time so you can tell which option changed image quality or responsiveness.

  1. Launch the PC game and open graphics or display settings. Names can vary, so look for the screen that controls resolution, upscaling, ray tracing, and related rendering features.
  2. Find the DLSS upscaling control. Select one of the modes listed by the game. If the game offers an option to disable upscaling or use native rendering, keep that as your baseline comparison.
  3. Apply the setting and return to the same scene. Check small text, distant geometry, hair, particles, and moving objects. A mode that raises displayed FPS but produces distracting reconstruction artifacts may not be the best choice.
  4. Locate the separate frame-generation control. Look for a Frame Generation entry on RTX 40-series hardware or an MFG entry on RTX 50-series hardware, if offered. Do not assume that selecting DLSS Super Resolution has enabled either switch.
  5. Enable the appropriate option and apply it. If the game requests a restart or reload, follow that prompt. Afterward, compare motion and controls in the same repeatable section rather than relying on a menu preview.
  6. Evaluate playability, not only the counter. Keep the configuration only if the base render remains stable, image artifacts are acceptable, and controls still feel responsive. If the game feels less direct even though the displayed FPS rises, turn Frame Generation back off and reassess the upscaling choice.

Why is Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation missing?

A missing toggle is often a compatibility or build limitation, not a setting you have overlooked. Compare the GPU generation with NVIDIA’s feature distinction before changing drivers or reinstalling the game.

You have an RTX 40-series card

RTX 40-series hardware is associated with standard DLSS Frame Generation, not Multi Frame Generation. Look for the standard Frame Generation label. An MFG entry should not be expected simply because the card supports DLSS Super Resolution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You have an RTX 50-series card

RTX 50-series hardware is the relevant generation for MFG. The game may still expose standard or different labels depending on its implementation. If neither appears, verify that the PC build and driver are recognized correctly, then check whether the current game version actually offers the feature to that configuration.

You have an older or non-GeForce GPU

The documented scope here is compatible GeForce RTX hardware. A missing DLSS or frame-generation control on another GPU type is not evidence of a malfunction that an SSD or utility can fix.

The option appeared after a change but will not stay enabled

Reopen the graphics page after applying changes and confirm the saved state. Record one change at a time, and remove overlays or unrelated modifications only as a troubleshooting step; there is no documented universal fix that guarantees a particular toggle on every build.

Which DLSS setting gives smooth gameplay without adding unwanted lag?

There is no universal best preset or guaranteed FPS or latency figure for Phantom Blade Zero. The dependable approach is to stabilize the base frame rate first, then judge generated smoothness and input response separately.

1. Establish the base frame rate

Begin with native rendering or the least aggressive upscaling option that remains playable. Move through a demanding, repeatable section and watch for sustained dips, traversal stutter, or uneven pacing. A higher average number is less useful if the base workload repeatedly collapses during combat or effects-heavy scenes.

2. Compare the available upscaling modes

Change only the DLSS mode, leave other graphics settings unchanged, and revisit the same scene. Inspect motion detail, thin geometry, shadows, reflections, and distant characters. Select the mode that delivers an acceptable base rate without persistent shimmer, ghosting, or loss of important detail.

3. Test Frame Generation separately

With the chosen upscaling mode fixed, toggle standard Frame Generation or MFG, depending on the GPU generation. Observe camera pans, rapid attacks, particles, and menus as well as ordinary traversal. Generated frames can improve perceived smoothness while the underlying input-to-render path remains governed by the base frames, so a smoother counter does not guarantee a more immediate control response.

4. Consider latency features when exposed

NVIDIA discusses Reflex in connection with this title. If a Reflex control is present in your build, evaluate it as a separate latency-related setting rather than assuming it is bundled with DLSS or Frame Generation. Keep the combination that feels most controllable in combat; do not infer a specific latency reduction without a measurement from a named source.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Keep a simple record

Write down the resolution, DLSS mode, frame-generation state, ray-tracing state, and observations about clarity and controls. This prevents returning to a setting that looked fast in a counter but produced distracting artifacts or sluggish input during play.

How should I choose between DLSS options?

Use the following comparison as a decision aid, not as a promise of a particular frame-rate uplift. Availability depends on your GPU and the options exposed by the current game build.

Choice GPU compatibility What changes What to evaluate
Native rendering Any GPU capable of running the game Uses the selected output resolution without DLSS reconstruction Reference image quality and base-frame stability
DLSS Super Resolution Compatible GeForce RTX hardware Reconstructs the output from a lower internal resolution Base-frame stability, motion detail, shimmer, and ghosting
Standard Frame Generation NVIDIA assigns it to RTX 40-series hardware Adds generated displayed frames between rendered frames Motion smoothness versus control response and artifacts
Multi Frame Generation NVIDIA assigns it to RTX 50-series hardware Adds the MFG generation path where the game exposes it Displayed smoothness, frame pacing, image behavior, and responsiveness

Super Resolution and Frame Generation can be combined when the game exposes both, but they remain separate controls. Test the upscaler first, then the generation feature, so a visual or control change has an identifiable cause.

What symptoms indicate a poor configuration?

Different symptoms point to different adjustments. Change one variable, return to the same scene, and stop when the problem is solved rather than stacking several speculative fixes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • High displayed FPS but delayed-feeling controls: Disable Frame Generation temporarily and compare the base configuration. If direct control returns, keep the lower displayed rate or try a different base setting.
  • Shimmering or unstable fine detail: Test another DLSS mode or native rendering. Check moving foliage, hair, wires, and particles, where reconstruction errors are easiest to notice.
  • Ghost trails behind characters or effects: Compare modes during camera movement and combat. A different upscaling choice may reduce the artifact even if its counter is lower.
  • Uneven motion after enabling generation: Recheck the base frame-rate stability and scene-to-scene pacing. Generation cannot compensate reliably for a base workload that is already unstable.
  • No DLSS controls at all: Confirm the PC edition and recognized GeForce RTX hardware, then check whether the current build exposes the feature. Do not treat an SSD purchase or a generic optimization program as an unlock.
  • MFG absent on an RTX 40-series card: This is expected under NVIDIA’s generation distinction; use standard Frame Generation if the game offers it.

Does ray tracing change the DLSS decision?

Ray tracing increases the rendering workload, so it can alter the base frame rate that Frame Generation depends on. NVIDIA’s Phantom Blade Zero coverage discusses ray tracing alongside DLSS features, but it does not establish one universal ray-tracing preset or a guaranteed gain for every GPU. Treat ray tracing as another variable: establish a stable base with it enabled or disabled, then compare DLSS modes and generation without changing several settings at once.

Can an SSD or software utility enable DLSS?

No. The Steam PC listing’s SSD requirement concerns storage performance and installation requirements; it is separate from GPU feature support. DLSS and its frame-generation modes depend on the game implementation, driver support, and compatible GPU generation. Buying storage or installing a generic utility cannot create a missing in-game toggle.

What is known about performance gains?

No independently verified, generally applicable Phantom Blade Zero FPS uplift, latency reduction, or adoption figure has been established for all PC configurations. A result reported for one hardware and settings combination should not be converted into a universal promise. Use your own repeatable scene and prioritize stable base rendering, acceptable image quality, and control response over a headline number.

How should settings be revisited after updates?

Game patches and graphics drivers can change labels, defaults, and feature exposure. After a significant update, recheck the GPU generation, confirm which DLSS and generation entries are present, and repeat the one-setting-at-a-time comparison. Guidance and availability described here were checked in October 2026; distributed builds can still differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an RTX 30-series card use DLSS Frame Generation in Phantom Blade Zero?

NVIDIA’s documented hardware split assigns standard DLSS Frame Generation to RTX 40-series cards and Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series cards. An RTX 30-series owner may see Super Resolution where supported, but this guidance does not establish a Frame Generation option for that generation.

Will enabling DLSS lower my monitor’s resolution?

DLSS changes the internal rendering resolution while targeting the output resolution selected in the game. Check the display-resolution control separately; changing that value is not required simply to select a DLSS mode.

Should I upgrade my graphics card just to get Multi Frame Generation?

MFG is tied to RTX 50-series hardware in NVIDIA’s compatibility guidance, but no universal Phantom Blade Zero performance or latency benefit has been established. Upgrade decisions should therefore consider your broader games and workloads rather than assuming a guaranteed result in this title.

Why does the FPS counter rise even though combat feels less responsive?

Generated frames increase the number of images displayed, while input response still depends heavily on the conventionally rendered base frames and the rest of the system pipeline. Compare the same combat sequence with generation disabled and keep the configuration that gives you more reliable control.
