How does combat work in Phantom Blade Zero?
The official Steam description presents combat as a flow of seamless combos, with dodging, deflecting, countering, and striking among the listed actions. PlayStation’s August 17, 2026 gameplay deep dive adds options such as attacking from range and using summons. Weapon choice and enemy responses shape the available approach; the published descriptions do not say that one tactic is necessary or strongest in every encounter.

The official PlayStation page calls the game a dark wuxia action RPG and highlights its kung-fu-inspired presentation. Steam also shows “Souls-like” among its popular user-defined tags, but that is a community-facing store tag, not a formal genre classification from the developer. The official materials reviewed do not establish that the game is a Soulslike by a particular mechanical definition.
How many weapons and Phantom Edges are there?
The announced arsenal includes more than 30 main weapons and a secondary category called Phantom Edges. Official sources give different levels of precision for the latter count:

The August deep dive specifies 25 Phantom Edges, while the storefront summaries use “20+” or “more than 20.” Those descriptions should not be collapsed into a single claim about a final, verified count. The deep dive also says that exploration unlocks weapons and that some defeated enemies add to the arsenal.
How do weapon upgrades and progression work?
Based on the announced systems, progression expands the player’s arsenal over time, then lets players upgrade weapons and pair them with accessories. Reforging an upgraded weapon returns its upgrade materials so they can be invested elsewhere. S-GAME founder and CEO Soulframe Liang described the purpose in the PlayStation deep dive: “Don’t worry if you second guess a weapon you’ve upgraded or want to switch up your build. You can always reforge it, get those materials back, and reinvest them in another.”

That makes experimentation less costly in the stated design, but the published descriptions do not detail weapon stats, upgrade tiers, currencies, skill trees, or the exact reforge process. They also do not support a definitive “best” weapon or build recommendation.

The protagonist, Soul, is framed for murdering his master and has a wounded heart with sixty-six days left to live. In the Wulin, he encounters people in need. PlayStation says interactions and some side quests may open new story paths and deepen players’ understanding of the world. The description does not explain the full branching structure or say that every side quest changes the main plot.

When does Phantom Blade Zero release, and on which platforms?
As of October 13, 2026, the listed launch date is October 29, 2026, with October 28 shown for the US and select regions. The one-day difference appears on official regional and storefront listings: S-GAME’s official homepage and PlayStation’s gameplay article give October 29, while the US PlayStation product page and Steam listing show October 28. In its June 2, 2026 letter, S-GAME said the date had moved from September 9.

The official Steam listing identifies S-GAME Studio as developer and S-GAME Publishing as publisher; the game is listed for PC and PS5. PlayStation advertises PS5 features including DualSense adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and spatial audio. Its product page also lists adjustable difficulty, control and tutorial reminders, pausing during offline gameplay or cinematics, and manual saving. These are platform-listed features, not comparative performance results.
