Pizza Tower Review: Is the Fast-Paced Platformer Worth Playing?

Pizza Tower pairs responsive, momentum-driven platforming with animated comedy, inventive levels and an energetic soundtrack. Critics are enthusiastic, though its speed, difficulty and replay focus are not for everyone.

Pizza Tower is a sharp, high-energy platformer built around responsive movement, inventive stages and cartoon comedy. Critics have praised its controls, animation and soundtrack, while its speed, difficulty and score-chasing replay loop may be a poor fit if you prefer a slower, less demanding platformer.

What is Pizza Tower?

Developed and published by Tour De Pizza, Pizza Tower is a fast-paced 2D platformer released for PC on January 26, 2023. You play mainly as Peppino Spaghetti, a chef trying to climb the tower and save his restaurant; Nintendo’s listing also notes occasional play as Gustavo. Movement, exploration and score attack are central to the game, which pairs highly stylized pixel art inspired by 1990s cartoons with an energetic soundtrack. Steam’s PC listing and Nintendo’s Switch listing describe those core elements.

How does the gameplay work?

Peppino’s moves include grabbing, dashing, super jumping and taunting; the taunt can also serve as a parry. PC Gamer reviewer Scott McCrae describes the controls as tight and responsive even at full speed. The practical appeal is the way movement carries you through stages: keep moving, use Peppino’s abilities to handle obstacles and enemies, and decide whether to push toward the exit or take time to explore.

There is more than one way to approach a level. Nintendo says players can seek high scores or explore at their own pace. McCrae notes secrets and treasures that encourage exploration and repeat visits. In the PC Gamer review, hits outside boss fights reduce score rather than health, making performance and score preservation part of the challenge. McCrae’s account of the PC version describes 19 levels and five hub areas.

What do critics say about Pizza Tower?

The published reviews are strongly positive, especially about movement, stage design and presentation. McCrae’s PC Gamer review, published January 26, 2023, awarded it 90/100 and called it “A brilliantly energetic and creative platformer that doesn’t just do right by its inspiration Wario Land, but actually surpasses it.” He highlights varied stages and bosses, secrets, visual gags and music. His concise assessment of the controls: “Peppino himself is a joy to control.”

As an aggregator snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, Metacritic’s PC critic page showed an 89 Metascore from eight scored reviews. That is a dated snapshot of the reviews Metacritic lists, not a score from every critic. A listed KeenGamer review excerpt praises the levels, gameplay, soundtrack and animation, but cautions that play can become repetitive and may be too difficult for some players.

Who is likely to enjoy it—and who might not?

Pizza Tower is a strong match if you enjoy precise, fast movement, expressive animation and stages that reward both exploration and better-scoring repeat runs. Its humor and soundtrack are part of the experience rather than decoration around a conventional platformer.

The same design may frustrate players who dislike high-speed play, challenging stages or replaying levels to improve a score. The repetition and difficulty caveat appears in the cited KeenGamer summary; it is a critic’s qualification, not a claim that every player will react the same way.

Are Steam user ratings another useful signal?

Steam’s English-language listing snapshot accessed October 8, 2026 showed 98% positive from 45,412 reviews overall and 95% positive among 414 recent reviews. These are Steam user-review proportions at that date, not critic scores; both percentages and review counts can change.
