PlayKids announced Afterverse on December 3, 2020, as a business unit devoted to social games for players of all ages. Its launch portfolio included PK XD and Crafty Lands. That was the launch-era structure: Afterverse now says it became independent of Movile in 2024 and focuses on expanding PK XD, with child safety central to its stated direction.
What was Afterverse?
Afterverse was the social-games unit PlayKids announced on December 3, 2020. PlayKids said its growing games business and early product success prompted the expansion. The company described Afterverse’s mission as connecting people across physical, social, and cultural boundaries through games. Breno Masi, identified in the announcement as Afterverse CEO and PlayKids co-founder, said the unit was intended to serve children, teens, and adults around the world. At the time, PlayKids was part of Brazil’s Movile group. GamesBeat reported that PlayKids would continue concentrating on younger audiences while Afterverse pursued a broader audience, and that its games earned revenue through optional in-app purchases. GamesBeat’s contemporaneous coverage
Which games were in the launch portfolio?
PK XD
PK XD was the flagship game named in the announcement. Afterverse’s December 2020 release said it had more than 25 million monthly users in its first year. That is a company-reported figure from 2020, not a current active-user estimate or an independently audited count. The release also described more than 150 global content creators making videos about the game in multiple languages.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Crafty Lands
Crafty Lands was the other named title in the launch portfolio. The 2020 release said it had more than five million players. Like the PK XD figure, that is a historical company claim, not a current audience measure.
How has Afterverse changed since the launch?
Afterverse’s current company history says it began within Movile through PlayKids in 2019 and became independent, leaving the group in 2024. It now describes its focus as expanding PK XD and its vision as making the game a leading title that prioritizes children’s safety. This is a substantial shift from the 2020 announcement’s framing of Afterverse as a PlayKids business unit for games aimed at all ages. Afterverse’s company history and current description

Current audience counters should not be confused with the 2020 monthly-user claim. Google Play’s listing for PK XD attributes the game to Afterverse Games and displays 100M+ downloads, along with ads, in-app purchases, and an Everyone 10+ rating. Afterverse’s homepage separately says the game has more than one billion Google Play downloads. Those are different download counters, not comparable measures of monthly active users. What is known about PK XD’s social features and child safety?
Afterverse says child safety is a priority. Its first-half 2026 transparency report covers PK XD in Brazil, rather than the game’s global activity. The report says players do not have free-text chat; instead, they can communicate through a closed catalogue of preset messages and emojis.
