The dependable way to play Capcom’s classic console catalogue in 2026 is to buy the official collections on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. PlayStation 4 editions run on PS5 through backwards compatibility, and Xbox One editions run on Xbox Series X|S. Switch editions are listed as compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Native current-generation releases remain unusual; Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, released on 27 March 2026, is the notable Mega Man exception with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. A South Korean rating for 29 Capcom games on 27 October 2026 is only a classification filing, not confirmation of a new PS5 collection.
For NES, SNES and PlayStation-era Mega Man, start with the two Mega Man Legacy Collection volumes. For fighting games, you need more than one box: Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection includes Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, while the newer Capcom Fighting Collection, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 cover different arcade line-ups. Capcom Arcade Stadium is a separate arcade-ROM service, not a way to obtain the original NES or SNES conversions.

Which collection should I buy first?
Choose according to the original hardware you want to reproduce. The collections are not interchangeable: an arcade ROM, an NES conversion and a PlayStation version can share a title while remaining different releases.
- For numbered home-console Mega Man: buy Mega Man Legacy Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. Together they cover Mega Man 1–10 across NES, SNES and PlayStation-era releases.
- For the widest classic Street Fighter chronology: choose Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection. It is the modern collection that includes Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike; the later fighting collections do not include that game.
- For online Capcom fighters outside the Street Fighter anniversary set: choose Capcom Fighting Collection 2 at Capcom’s official US price of $39.99 (checked October 2026). It has eight games, rollback netcode and physical editions for Switch and PS4.
- For arcade breadth: choose Capcom Arcade Stadium and then Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium. They supply arcade versions of games such as 1942, Final Fight and Ghosts ’n Goblins, with rewind and save-state tools.
- For Marvel crossovers: choose Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which includes Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and six related arcade games.
- For a native PS5 or Xbox Series Mega Man release: choose Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. It is the current-generation exception, rather than the rule.
How we picked
The order follows the most direct match between a reader’s target games and Capcom’s official format: home-console versions first, then the Street Fighter set that uniquely carries 3rd Strike, modern online fighting collections, arcade catalogues, and finally the newest native current-generation Mega Man release. Platform availability, version type, online features and documented release status determine each placement.

How does each console run Capcom’s retro catalogue?
Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2
Switch is the broadest single destination for Capcom’s current retro line. The platform has the two Mega Man Legacy Collection volumes, Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2, Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, both Capcom Fighting Collection volumes, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection and both Capcom Arcade Stadium volumes.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 launched on Switch on 16 May 2025. Nintendo’s store listing marks it “Supported” on Nintendo Switch 2 and says game behaviour is consistent with Nintendo Switch. The same compatibility status applies to the Switch editions of the other collections where Nintendo provides a Switch 2 listing; these are Switch software running under the newer system’s compatibility layer, not automatically native Switch 2 builds.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Switch is also the only console in this group with an official Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection; that set shipped on PS4, Switch and PC but skipped Xbox. The available data does not establish a Nintendo Classics or Switch Online catalogue entry for Capcom’s first-party NES and Super NES Mega Man or Breath of Fire games. Capcom’s paid collections are therefore the documented route.
PlayStation 5
Most Capcom retro products on PS5 are PS4 editions running through backwards compatibility. Capcom lists PS4 for Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Capcom Fighting Collection, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, Capcom Arcade Stadium and the older Mega Man Legacy sets. A PS4 purchase is the supported console path for those products; there is usually no separate PS5 SKU.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection is a clear example: its PlayStation release is PS4, and the PS4 version is playable on PS5. Inserting original PlayStation or PlayStation 2 Capcom discs is not the documented PS5 solution; current compatibility guidance is centred on PS4 software.
Capcom’s product index does list a small group of native PS5 classic re-releases in 2026: Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection on 27 March, the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Nemesis on 2 April, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams on 18 August, and Mega Man X: Command Mission on 15 September. These individual releases do not replace the numbered NES and SNES collections.

Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series X|S follows the same last-generation pattern. Xbox One editions of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, both older Mega Man Legacy sets, Capcom Fighting Collection, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection and Capcom Arcade Stadium run through Xbox backwards compatibility.
Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is the documented exception with both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S SKUs. Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection has no Xbox edition, so an Xbox owner cannot obtain that set through the official console line.
A 2026 boxed edition of Capcom Arcade Stadium Vol. 1 was announced for Xbox Series X|S as well as PS4 and Switch. That physical release does not turn the older digital game into a native Series software build; it is a separately packaged edition of the same arcade collection.

Which Mega Man collections cover the classic console games?
Mega Man has the most complete Capcom home-console presence on current hardware. The Legacy line separates the numbered series, X series, portable sub-series and later handheld entries instead of combining every game into one purchase.

The first volume compiles the NES originals Mega Man through Mega Man 6. It is available on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Windows, with an earlier 3DS edition. Digital Eclipse developed the collection; the Switch ports of both volumes arrived on 22 May 2018.
Players can select Japanese Rockman or international Mega Man versions. Museum galleries and Challenge stages are included, and the Switch edition adds rewind. Capcom figures compiled by Wikipedia report 1.7 million copies sold as of 30 September 2025, making it the second-best-selling Mega Man game according to that compilation.
Mega Man Legacy Collection 2
Volume 2 moves through three hardware generations: Mega Man 7 from SNES, Mega Man 8 from PlayStation, and Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. It also includes the original downloadable content for 9 and 10, plus collection challenges and museum material. Platforms are Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Windows.
Capcom’s reported figure, compiled by Wikipedia, is more than 1 million copies as of 30 September 2025. A combined Switch physical package contains a game card for Volume 1 and a download code for Volume 2, so check the box contents before buying a used copy.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection covers X1 through X4, while Volume 2 covers X5 through X8. Both launched on the same Switch, PS4 and Xbox One pattern in 2018, with PC versions. They are the route for the 16-bit and PlayStation-era X games, not a substitute for the original numbered series.
Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection
This 2020 collection contains the four Game Boy Advance Mega Man Zero games and both ZX titles. A casual difficulty mode lowers the barrier for players who want the story and exploration without the original difficulty curve. It follows the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One generation of releases, with PC availability.
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection
Released in 2023 for PS4, Switch and PC, this package contains all six Mega Man Battle Network games and their extra versions, for ten games in total. It is not available on Xbox, making Switch or PS4 the console choices for this sub-series.
Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection
Released 27 March 2026, this set includes the Nintendo DS trilogy and all version variants, seven games in total. It is available on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows, making it the first Mega Man Legacy Collection with native PS5 and Series versions.

Where can I play classic Street Fighter and Capcom fighting games?
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
This 2018 collection is still the essential purchase for the mainline arcade chronology from Street Fighter II through Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. It is available on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam. Later collections improve online features for other games but omit Street Fighter III, so buying only those newer sets leaves a major gap.
Capcom Fighting Collection
Released 24 June 2022 for Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam, this ten-game set includes the Darkstalkers series, Red Earth (also known as Warzard) in a home release for the first time, Hyper Street Fighter II, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix. Rollback netcode, training tools, one-button specials, save and load functions, display filters, museums and music players are included.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics
The digital release arrived on Switch, PS4 and Windows on 12 September 2024; physical Switch and PS4 editions followed on 22 November 2024, and Xbox One arrived on 4 February 2025. The seven games are The Punisher (1993), X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
Rollback netcode is joined by ranked, casual and spectator modes, training, and a museum. Capcom figures compiled by Wikipedia put worldwide sales at 1 million by September 2025, more than 1.2 million by 31 March 2026 and more than 1.3 million by 30 June 2026.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Released 16 May 2025 for Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam, this eight-game set contains:
- Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro
- Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001
- Capcom Fighting Evolution
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
- Project Justice
- Power Stone
- Power Stone 2
- Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein
Capcom’s US launch price is $39.99 (checked October 2026). The game is sold digitally on all listed platforms, while physical copies are available for Switch and PS4. Features include rollback netcode, training with hitboxes for 2D games, one-button specials, quick-save in arcade mode, display filters, internal-resolution boosts for 3D titles, and a museum with more than 700 artworks and over 300 tracks according to Nintendo’s store description. An August 2025 update added Alpha 3 MAX characters Ingrid, Maki, Yun and Eagle for offline play.
The Steam FAQ, updated 20 July 2026, says online play is limited to players on the same platform. A digital bundle combines the first and second Capcom Fighting Collection volumes into 18 games.
Are Capcom Arcade Stadium games the NES and SNES versions?
No. Capcom Arcade Stadium and Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium emulate coin-operated arcade releases. When a game also had an NES, SNES or Mega Drive conversion, the arcade ROM and home version can differ in stages, controls, sound, difficulty and content.

Capcom’s reported sales figure, compiled by Wikipedia, was 1.8 million units as of December 2023.
Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium arrived on 22 July 2022 for the same platforms with another 32 games. Its line-up includes the Street Fighter Alpha trilogy, Knights of the Round, Magic Sword, Saturday Night Slam Masters and the arcade Mega Man games The Power Battle and The Power Fighters. Does the 29-game Korean rating confirm a new Capcom console collection?
No. South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee rated 29 Capcom titles on 27 October 2026, but a rating is a classification decision rather than a launch announcement. The filing gives no collection name, PS5 SKU, price, release date, packaging plan, download strategy or confirmation that the games will launch in Korea or elsewhere.
The rated list is:
- 1942
- Breath of Fire
- Breath of Fire II
- Captain Commando
- Commando
- Demon’s Crest
- Destiny of an Emperor
- Final Fight
- Final Fight 2
- Final Fight 3
- Gargoyle’s Quest II
- Ghosts ’n Goblins
- The King of Dragons
- Knights of the Round
- Magic Sword: Heroic Fantasy
- Mega Man
- Mega Man 2
- Mega Man 3
- Mega Man 4
- Mega Man 5
- Mega Man Soccer
- Mega Man X
- Mighty Final Fight
- Saturday Night Slam Masters
- Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight
- Street Fighter Alpha 2
- Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
- Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
The list attracts attention because it mixes arcade-origin games with console-focused titles that are still awkward to obtain. Mega Man through Mega Man 5 and Mega Man X already appear in Legacy Collections, while Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Saturday Night Slam Masters and Knights of the Round are available in Arcade Stadium or fighting collections. The deeper cuts include Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, Demon’s Crest, Mighty Final Fight, Mega Man Soccer, Final Fight 2, Final Fight 3, Gargoyle’s Quest II, Destiny of an Emperor and Street Fighter 2010.
A 2026 catalogue guide from The 725 Club still lists Breath of Fire as lacking a proper modern collection. That absence explains the speculation, but it does not turn the rating into a confirmed product. Hamster’s separate Console Archives initiative for PS5, announced in February 2026, is not evidence that Capcom is using that programme for these games.

Capcom Town offers browser-playable home-console versions of overlapping games including Mega Man, Mega Man 4, Mega Man X, Mega Man Soccer, Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, Street Fighter II and Final Fight. Individual 2026 Capcom re-releases
| Release | Date | Platforms | What it provides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection | 27 March 2026 | Switch, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S | Seven DS games and version variants |
| Resident Evil 2 | 2 April 2026 | PS4, PS5, Steam | Original release re-issued individually |
| Resident Evil 3 Nemesis | 2 April 2026 | PS4, PS5, Steam | Original release re-issued individually |
| Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams | 18 August 2026 | PS4, PS5 | Individual PS2-era re-release |
| Mega Man X: Command Mission | 15 September 2026 | PS5, PS4 | Individual Mega Man X-era re-release |
These releases help when you want one specific later title, but they do not supply Mega Man 1–6, the SNES numbered games or a complete Breath of Fire set. For those, the collections or browser service remain the documented choices.
What online and quality-of-life features should I expect?
| Collection type | Modern features | Online model | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Man Legacy | Challenges, museums and rewind on Switch; extra armour in Volume 2 | Primarily solo | Home-console versions are split across volumes |
| Fighting Collections | Rollback netcode, training, one-button specials, saves, filters, museums and music players | Competitive online modes | Online matchmaking is confined to the same platform |
| Arcade Stadium | Rewind, save states, speed control and CRT filters | Local-focused | Arcade ROMs are not home-console conversions |
| Star Force Legacy | One-screen dual-display adaptation, auto-save, encounter and damage/defence controls, new voice-overs | Card trading and battles | No cross-play |
Rollback netcode is the practical difference for fighting-game buyers: it is designed to reduce perceived input delay during online matches. Arcade Stadium instead concentrates on solo convenience and preservation tools. The collections therefore serve different purposes even when their game names overlap.

What is Capcom still missing on modern consoles?
The gaps matter if your goal is a complete home-console archive rather than a selection of famous arcade games. Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire II still lack a proper modern collection, despite appearing in the Korean rating. Mega Man & Bass remains a commonly requested omission. Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3 are the home-console sequels fans most often identify as absent from the current official line-up, particularly on Xbox.
Dino Crisis is another frequently requested series without a documented modern compilation. Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams did receive a PS4/PS5 release in 2026, so it should no longer be described as wholly unavailable. Capcom vs. SNK: SVC Chaos is an SNK-side HD port rather than part of Capcom’s own fighting collection line.

At EVO 2024, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection producer Shuhei Matsumoto told IGN: “We want all our classic games to be available for modern consoles because we just want to be able to reach as many people who may have never had the opportunity to play these games back in the day.” He also said Capcom has other legacy fighting games it wants to re-release and that the development side shares the fans’ interest.
Those comments show intent, not a schedule. Matsumoto also answered yes when asked whether Capcom wants to make a new Versus series game, but no release details for a new title or the 29-game rating have been announced.
How do I buy the right version without confusing arcade and console releases?
- Write down the exact game and version. “Final Fight” could mean an arcade ROM, an SNES conversion or a title in a future unannounced package. “Street Fighter III” specifically requires the 30th Anniversary set for the documented modern console release.
- Match the platform generation. On PS5, look for the PS4 edition unless the product page explicitly lists PS5. On Xbox Series X|S, look for Xbox One unless a Series SKU is listed. On Switch 2, verify that the Switch listing says supported.
- Choose home-console or arcade authenticity. Use Legacy Collections for NES, SNES, PlayStation, GBA or DS versions. Use Arcade Stadium or the Fighting Collections for coin-op versions and their arcade-focused features.
- Check physical contents. The combined Switch Mega Man package places Volume 1 on a game card and Volume 2 behind a download code. Fighting Collection 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom have documented Switch and PS4 physical editions; other platform versions are digital.
- Set online expectations before buying. Same-platform matchmaking is required for Fighting Collection 2, and Star Force online card features do not cross-play. Arcade Stadium is primarily a local and solo experience.
- Watch for discounts. A 2026 catalogue guide notes that Capcom regularly discounts these collections, so the launch or list price is not necessarily the only buying opportunity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use original PS1 or PS2 Capcom discs in a PS5?
That is not the documented route for this catalogue. Current guidance treats PS5 compatibility as PS4-centric, so use a supported PS4 edition or a native PS5 re-release when Capcom lists one.
Is Capcom Town a free way to own these games on Switch?
No. Capcom Town is browser software, not a Switch purchase or installable console SKU. Its temporary full-line-up unlock was stated to end at 1:00 p.m. JST on 2 November 2026, so access should not be treated as permanent ownership.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Which collection includes the original arcade Mega Man games?
The arcade titles are Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man: The Power Fighters in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium. They are separate from the NES games in Mega Man Legacy Collection.
Does the Korean rating mean all 29 games will launch together?
No. The filing does not say whether the titles will be one collection, several releases, individual downloads or a subscription catalogue. Until Capcom names a product and platforms, the games remain a rumoured possibility.
