Choose based on where you prefer to play. InnoGames lists browser, iOS and Android availability, and its Google Play listing says play can be switched between desktop and mobile. What you do in Forge of Empires
You begin with a small settlement in the Stone Age and develop it through successive historical eras. The official browser description also says you can collect goods and troops produced while away from the game.
Research unlocks technologies and helps advance your city through the ages. Goods, trading and nearby provinces support expansion, while the campaign and encounters with other players add strategic choices. When resolving sectors, the game offers battles or negotiation. Battles are turn-based on a hexagonal field, according to the official browser description.

Plan the city around producing what you need, then use goods, trade and territorial expansion to support the next stage of development. The game’s systems are linked, so growth is not just a matter of adding buildings.
Choose battles or negotiation deliberately
Where the game gives you the choice, decide whether to negotiate or fight for a sector. Battles use turn-based tactics on a hexagonal field; the official game description does not establish one universally best choice.
