It was aimed not only at game publishers but also at social networks and video services.
What PlaySpan’s Monetization-as-a-Service offered
PlaySpan presented MaaS as a broader commerce platform, not simply a way to process payments. The launch-era pitch addressed a fragmented operating problem: publishers could be managing payment methods, storefronts, fraud controls, reporting, and customer support through separate systems. MaaS was meant to consolidate those functions in a hosted, API-enabled service.

What the launch-era customer figures show
GamesBeat’s October 2010 coverage reported more than 1,000 PlaySpan customers, more than 160 employees, and $42 million raised. It also said the company claimed to be adding 100 new customers per week. These are dated report-era figures, not independently audited counts or present-day company metrics.
GamesBeat also described an implementation at Atlus USA. Payments and fraud manager Ana Gonzalez said Atlus had previously used 15 platforms and was able to work with one PlaySpan platform; she said the implementation took less than three weeks. That is one customer’s reported experience, not a promise about deployment time for other publishers.

What happened after the launch
Visa announced an agreement to acquire PlaySpan on February 9, 2011. In its announcement, Visa described PlaySpan as a privately held company whose payments platform handled digital-goods transactions in online games, digital media, and social networks. Visa said MaaS combined payment and commerce solutions with fraud and risk management, analytics, merchandising, and global payment connectivity; it cited purchases such as game credits, premium memberships, and digital goods.
Visa announced that it had completed the acquisition on March 1, 2011. The announcement and completion are distinct events: the February release reported an agreement, while the March release confirmed the transaction’s completion.

What is known about PlaySpan’s present status
The available announcements establish that Visa acquired PlaySpan, but they do not establish whether the original MaaS platform continued, was absorbed into another product, or was retired. They also do not identify a current successor. It would be inaccurate to describe PlaySpan as a currently available service on the basis of these historical sources alone.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
