If someone changed your PlayStation sign-in email (sign-in ID) or password without permission, assume the account may be compromised. First secure the email account that was linked to PlayStation. If you can still open that mailbox, use PlayStation’s Trouble Signing in? and Recover Your Account flow. If the email address, sign-in ID, or verification method is no longer yours, stop trying ordinary password resets and contact PlayStation through its Online Assistant or Support. Once you regain access, check purchases and subscriptions, contain device and payment risks, and rebuild the account’s security settings.
What should I do first if my PlayStation email or password changed?
Work in this order: protect the email account, attempt the correct PlayStation recovery route, escalate when the sign-in ID or verification method was changed, then investigate purchases and secure every account setting.

- Secure the linked email account. Change its password immediately and enable the provider’s strongest available sign-in protection. If you cannot access that mailbox, contact the email provider as soon as possible; a compromised mailbox can let an attacker defeat later PlayStation resets.
- Preserve useful evidence. Keep PlayStation notifications about an email, password, or security-setting change. Note the approximate time, your former sign-in ID, online ID, consoles you use, and any unfamiliar transaction. Do not forward passwords, passkeys, backup codes, or full payment details to anyone claiming to help.
- Choose the recovery branch below. Access to the original email leads to self-service recovery. A changed or inaccessible sign-in ID requires PlayStation support.
- Check money-related activity. Review PlayStation Store transaction history and subscriptions for purchases or recurring charges you do not recognize.
- Harden the recovered account. Replace credentials, verify contact details, add a passkey or two-step verification where available, and remove payment methods if compromise or unauthorized purchases is suspected.
Can I still access the original email address?
Yes. If the original mailbox still works and the sign-in ID was not replaced, PlayStation’s account-recovery email flow is usually the fastest route.
- Open PlayStation Account Management and select Trouble Signing in?
- Choose Recover Your Account.
- Enter the PlayStation sign-in ID (your account email address).
- Open the secure message sent to that mailbox and follow its recovery instructions.
- Provide the requested account information and create a new, unique password.
Use a password that has never been used for your email, another game service, or a shopping account. If the message does not arrive, check spam and confirm that you entered the original sign-in ID correctly. Do not keep requesting resets indefinitely if you have evidence that the sign-in ID itself changed; move to support instead.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What if someone changed my PlayStation email or sign-in ID?
If you no longer recognize the sign-in ID, online ID, or password, PlayStation directs you to contact its Online Assistant. A normal reset cannot work when the reset message is being sent to an attacker-controlled address.
Use the same escalation route if you cannot access the linked email, cannot open a password-reset message, or cannot receive a two-step-verification code. Explain that the change was unauthorized and provide the former sign-in ID, online ID, console information, and relevant notification dates. Support may ask questions to establish ownership; answer accurately rather than guessing.
Do not create a second account and assume it will restore purchases, subscriptions, trophies, or cloud data from the original account. Those entitlements remain associated with the original account and require recovery of that account.
What if I lost my phone or two-step-verification method?
First check whether the same verification method is still available on another registered device. PlayStation says that, if you can sign in with a usable method, you may be able to register a new passkey and replace the lost method.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
If no registered phone, authenticator, backup code, passkey, or other usable method remains, contact the Online Assistant. Do not share a one-time code with a caller, social-media account, or “recovery service.” A code is an authentication secret, not proof that a person works for PlayStation.
How do I tell whether an email-change notice matters?
PlayStation says changing the sign-in ID signs the account out on all devices. It sends a verification message to the new address and a notice describing the change to the old address. An unexpected notice arriving at your former mailbox is therefore an important warning sign.
Do not decide that a message is genuine—or safe to ignore—based only on its appearance. Avoid links in suspicious messages, open Account Management directly through an official PlayStation route, and use the Online Assistant when the sign-in ID no longer matches your address. The notification is evidence to preserve, not a substitute for recovery.
What should I do about unauthorized PlayStation purchases?
After you begin recovery, review PlayStation Store transaction history and subscription settings. Look for unfamiliar games, add-ons, wallet funding, recurring subscriptions, or changes that coincide with the account takeover.

- If a transaction is explained by your own purchase history, keep the record for reference.
- If a charge remains unexplained, contact PlayStation promptly through its support channel and describe the account compromise.
- Check the payment account or card issuer for related activity and follow its fraud process when necessary.
- Do not assume deleting a card statement entry, disputing a charge, or closing a card will recover the PlayStation account; those are separate actions.
PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance also supports considering removal of saved payment methods. Treat that as containment after you have recorded transaction details, not as a replacement for account recovery.
Should I sign out consoles or deactivate devices?
Device containment is worthwhile when a console, phone, or computer may be in another person’s hands, or when the account was used on a stolen device. PlayStation recommends signing out of all devices and deactivating consoles in relevant compromised-account situations.

These actions do not prove that the attacker has been removed if the attacker still controls the sign-in email or password. Recover the account first when possible, then change credentials and perform device actions from the account-security controls. If a menu label differs by console generation or region, use the current Account Management instructions rather than relying on an old screenshot.
Which PlayStation security settings should I review after recovery?
PlayStation’s security-settings guide lists the sign-in ID, passkey, password, security question, mobile number, and two-step verification. On PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, it also lists a device setup password. Changes made online apply to the account’s devices and consoles.

| Setting | What to verify | Recommended action after a takeover |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in ID | It is your current email address and you can open that mailbox. | Correct it if necessary and secure the mailbox separately. |
| Password | No other service uses the same password. | Create a long, unique password and never send it to support. |
| Passkey | Only devices you control are registered. | Add a passkey if available; remove unknown credentials. |
| Two-step verification | The phone or authenticator belongs to you and backup options are current. | Re-enrol it and store recovery information privately. |
| Mobile number | The number is yours and has not been replaced. | Correct it and investigate unexpected carrier or SIM changes. |
| Security question | The answer is not publicly guessable. | Replace it with an answer unique to this account. |
| Device setup password | Relevant only to PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita. | Regenerate it if that legacy setting is shown. |
Also review authorized apps or connected services when the account interface exposes that list, and remove anything you do not recognize. Sharing PlayStation account details can compromise account security, so avoid unofficial “account recovery” offers.
Which recovery route should I use?
| Your situation | Best next step | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Original email works; sign-in ID is unchanged | Account Management → Trouble Signing in? → Recover Your Account | The secure link can reach the mailbox you still control. |
| Sign-in ID or email was changed | PlayStation Online Assistant or Support | Reset messages may go to the attacker’s address. |
| Email is inaccessible | Contact the email provider, then PlayStation Support | Both the mailbox and the PlayStation account need ownership recovery. |
| Passkey or 2SV works on another device | Sign in and register a replacement method | A surviving verification method can avoid a longer escalation. |
| No verification method remains | Online Assistant | PlayStation must verify ownership through support. |
| Unfamiliar charges appear | Preserve transaction details and contact PlayStation promptly | Financial review is time-sensitive and separate from password recovery. |
What information should I prepare for PlayStation Support?
Prepare facts that distinguish you from an attacker without exposing secrets. Useful details include the former sign-in ID, online ID, the date or approximate time you noticed the change, the consoles normally used, recent legitimate purchases, subscription names, and screenshots of change notifications with sensitive payment numbers obscured.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What common mistakes make recovery harder?
- Resetting only PlayStation. If the email account is compromised, the attacker can intercept the next reset. Change the mailbox password first.
- Using the changed email in a reset form. That sends recovery to the wrong person. Use the original sign-in ID when self-service recovery still applies.
- Waiting while charges accumulate. Review transactions and subscriptions as soon as practical and report unexplained activity promptly.
- Trusting search ads or social-media helpers. Scammers often request codes or payment. Navigate to official support yourself.
- Assuming a new account fixes the old one. Purchases, subscriptions, trophies, and cloud data do not automatically transfer.
- Reusing the old password. A password exposed during the incident should never be restored, even if access returns.
How do I prevent another PlayStation account takeover?
Use a unique PlayStation password and a separate, unique email password. Turn on a passkey or two-step verification when your account supports it, keep the mobile number and recovery information current, and store backup information offline or in a trusted password manager. Update the email account’s own security controls as well.

Review account notifications instead of dismissing them, especially a sign-in-ID change that signs out every device. Do not share credentials with friends, sellers, tournament organizers, or anyone offering cheaper currency or account services. Recheck connected apps and payment methods periodically, particularly after using a shared console or public computer.
When is the account considered secure again?
Consider the incident contained only after you control the email address, have a new PlayStation password, recognize the sign-in ID and mobile number, confirm that passkeys and two-step verification belong to you, remove unknown devices or apps, and find no unexplained transactions or subscriptions. If any one of those checks fails, keep working with PlayStation Support rather than assuming the password change solved everything.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will changing my PlayStation password sign out the hacker?
It can invalidate the attacker’s password, but you should also review device sessions, sign out of all devices, and deactivate consoles when appropriate. If the attacker controls the sign-in email or a verification method, password replacement alone may not end access.
Can PlayStation restore my purchases if I create a new account?
Creating a new account does not automatically move purchases, subscriptions, trophies, or cloud data. Recovery must be completed on the original account through self-service tools or PlayStation Support.
How long does PlayStation account recovery take?
PlayStation does not publish a universal recovery-time estimate because cases differ by the evidence and verification route. Self-service email recovery can proceed as soon as you control the mailbox; changed sign-in IDs generally require support review.
What if the attacker changed my online ID but not my email?
Keep control of the original email and start the Account Management recovery flow, then tell Support about the unfamiliar online ID. An online-ID change is still a security warning even when the sign-in email appears unchanged.
