Start by opening the correct PlayStation Plus catalog for your console, then verify the account that claimed or bought the game and the status of its membership. Check hidden games and console sharing before restoring licenses. A license restore does not delete installed games or saved data.
Understand what “missing” means
PlayStation displays access in several different ways, and each one points to a different fix. A title can be absent from the PlayStation Plus catalog but still be owned, visible in Game Library but locked, visible with a download button that fails, or hidden by a library filter. Treating all of those symptoms as a network problem wastes time.

A PlayStation Plus catalog entitlement is conditional. The account must have the appropriate membership plan, the subscription must remain active, and the title must still be offered in that catalog. A separately purchased game is tied to the account’s completed purchase, while a game supplied through PlayStation Plus depends on the applicable membership and offer.
1. Open the correct catalog and confirm the membership plan
First rule out a navigation or plan mismatch. Sony says PlayStation Plus games can also be found in Game Library, but downloading a catalog title requires the correct membership plan.

PS5 menu path
- Go to Games home.
- Open PlayStation Plus.
- Select Benefits.
- Choose Game Catalog.
- Search for the title and open its product page.
If the title appears there, use its download control or add it to your library as the on-screen option allows. If it does not appear, do not assume the license is broken yet: verify that the signed-in profile has the membership plan that includes that catalog.
PS4 menu path
- From the function screen, open PlayStation Plus.
- Select Game Catalog.
- Search for the game and open its product page.
You can also check Game Library. A catalog game may be listed there even when you reached it through the PlayStation Plus area. If the game is offered only under a higher membership plan than the one on the account, the download option will not be available.
When a catalog title has disappeared
Catalog availability is not permanent. A currently active subscription does not preserve access to every title after that title is removed from the relevant PlayStation Plus offering. Check the game’s product page while signed in to the account that used the service. If the title is no longer offered, restoring licenses cannot recreate that catalog entitlement; a completed separate purchase would be a different entitlement.

2. Verify the account, purchase, claim, and entitlement
Digital access follows the account that completed the transaction or claim. A console can have several profiles, so confirm which profile originally obtained the game before changing settings.

- Sign out of profiles that are not the suspected owner, then sign in to the account that bought, redeemed, or claimed the game.
- Open the account’s transaction history and look for a completed purchase, voucher redemption, or PlayStation Plus claim for the title.
- Check that the PlayStation Plus subscription is active on that same account if access came through the service.
- Confirm that the title is still available in the relevant PlayStation Plus catalog if it was not a separate purchase.
- Return to Game Library and search by the exact title, including any edition or platform variant.
A failed payment, an unredeemed voucher, or a claim completed on a different profile will not create an entitlement for the profile currently being used. Transaction history is the decisive check: if there is no completed record on the account, a license restore has nothing to repair.

3. Check hidden games and console sharing
Unhide the title
PlayStation’s missing-content guidance notes that hidden games are hidden in the libraries of all consoles. If the game was hidden accidentally, it will not appear in an ordinary library search until you change the hidden-games setting. Inspect the library’s hidden-games area, select the title, and choose the command to show it again. Search both the hidden list and the normal library before reinstalling anything.
Allow another PS5 profile to use the game
If one profile owns or claims the game and another profile is trying to play it, sign in with the owning account on the PS5 and enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. This setting permits other users on that console to use eligible games and some PlayStation Plus benefits. The setting belongs to the owning account, so enabling it while signed in to a different profile will not solve the entitlement mismatch.

Allow another PS4 profile to use the game
On PS4, activate the console as the owning account’s primary PS4. The primary-console setting is account-specific. If the account’s primary PS4 is a different machine, another local profile may see a padlock or no usable download even though the owner can access the game elsewhere.

Sharing does not transfer ownership to the second profile. The owning account still needs the completed purchase or an active, eligible PlayStation Plus membership, and catalog availability still applies.
4. Restore licenses without deleting data
Restoring licenses makes the console resynchronize digital ownership information with the account. Sony states that the operation does not affect data and can help when a game or add-on cannot be located.
PS5
- Open Settings.
- Choose Users and Accounts.
- Select Other.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Follow the confirmation prompt, then return to Game Library and try the title again.
PS4
- Open Settings.
- Choose Account Management.
- Select Restore Licenses.
- Confirm the operation and retry the game from the library.

That qualification matters. A license restore cannot bypass an expired subscription, a title removed from the catalog, a purchase that never completed, or an account that does not own the entitlement. It is the right step after those account checks, particularly when the correct owner sees a padlock or the game vanished after an account or system change.

5. Check service status, system software, and database state
Check for a service incident
Before repeatedly restoring licenses, check the official PlayStation service-status page for an outage affecting account management, the store, downloads, or game services. If the affected service is unavailable, wait for it to recover before interpreting a missing catalog or failed download as a permanent entitlement problem.
Install the latest system software
Update the PS5 or PS4 system software from its Settings update menu. An outdated system can prevent current store metadata, licensing information, or download jobs from being processed correctly. Restart the console after the update and test the title while signed in to the owning account.
Use Safe Mode maintenance when the library remains inconsistent
If the title is correctly owned, the service is operating, and a license restore did not correct the display, use the platform’s Safe Mode cache or database-rebuild maintenance option as described by Sony. Database maintenance can repair how installed content is indexed; it does not create an entitlement and should not be used as a substitute for checking the account and membership first.

6. Recover a download that is visible but stuck
PS5 download queue
- Open Downloads/Uploads from the control center.
- Find the game and choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then choose Resume.
- If it still does not progress, select Cancel and Delete.
- Return to Game Library, open the title, and start the download again.
Canceling and deleting the download removes the incomplete download job, not the account’s purchase record. Recheck free storage and the service status before starting again.
PS4 download recovery
Use Sony’s PS4 download-troubleshooting flow in order: confirm the signed-in account, verify membership when the game came from PlayStation Plus, check primary-PS4 activation and licenses, inspect service status, install system updates, and use the applicable Safe Mode database option if the library or queue remains corrupt. This order prevents a network retry from masking an ownership or sharing problem.
Distinguish a queue failure from an entitlement failure

7. A fast troubleshooting order by symptom
“I claimed it, but it is not in my library”
- Sign in to the account that made the claim.
- Check transaction history for the completed claim or redemption.
- Look in the PlayStation Plus catalog and Game Library.
- Inspect hidden games.
- Confirm the membership is active and the title remains offered if it is a catalog entitlement.
- Restore licenses on the relevant console.
“The game is in my library but has a padlock”
- Confirm whether the padlock is caused by an expired PlayStation Plus membership or a title that left the catalog.
- Switch to the account that purchased or claimed the game.
- Restore licenses.
- If another profile is playing, enable PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play or activate the PS4 as the owner’s primary PS4.
- Update system software and perform Safe Mode database maintenance if the lock remains despite valid access.
“I can see it, but it will not download”
- Open Downloads/Uploads and pause then resume the job.
- Check available storage and PlayStation service status.
- Cancel and delete the failed PS5 job, then start it from Game Library again.
- On PS4, follow the account, membership, primary-console, license, status, update, and Safe Mode sequence.
8. When to contact PlayStation Support
Escalate after the account, catalog, hidden-game, sharing, license, service, software, and download checks have all been completed. Support can investigate an entitlement or account record that the console cannot resolve.
Prepare evidence before opening the case:
- The exact error code or message, including punctuation and capitalization.
- The console model, system-software version, and the profile used when the problem occurs.
- The game’s exact title and edition.
- Whether the game was separately purchased, redeemed, or obtained through a PlayStation Plus catalog.
- The transaction date or voucher details when available.
- A concise description of what happens and numbered steps that reproduce it.
- A screenshot or video showing the missing entry, padlock, failed download, or error.
Those details let support distinguish an unavailable catalog item from a missing transaction, a sharing configuration error, and a damaged local database. Do not send account passwords or payment-card numbers in a screenshot.

- Use the same account for claims, purchases, and downloads, and record which profile owns each game on a shared console.
