The lineup included two console bundles, a numbered PS5 Pro bundle limited to an announced 12,300 units worldwide, and standalone controllers and a PlayStation Portal. Sony announced November 21, 2024 as the collection’s release date; that date is not a guarantee of current availability.
How the anniversary designs refer to the original PlayStation
Sony Interactive Entertainment introduced the collection on September 19, 2024. The styling takes its cue from the first PlayStation, which launched on December 3, 1994, and applies its original color design to current PS5 products. Hideaki Nishino, then CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Platform Business Group, described the aim as bringing that design into the latest PS5 hardware line.
The result is a commemorative treatment of current products, rather than a new console generation. Sony’s announcement identifies the inspiration and the products in the range; it does not describe changes to the consoles’ core functions.
Which products were in the collection?
Sony announced five product categories: two console bundles and three standalone accessories.
