There is no single best Pokémon GO moveset in 2026. The right combination depends on whether you are raiding, attacking Gyms, battling Team GO Rocket, or competing in Great, Ultra, or Master League. A high-DPS raid moveset can be poor in PvP, while a PvP moveset may sacrifice fast damage for energy generation, shield pressure, coverage, or bulk.
Use the recommendations below as practical starting points, then confirm that the move is available for your Pokémon and form before spending TMs or Elite TMs.

Best Pokémon GO movesets for raids and Gyms
For raids and Gym offense, judge a moveset by sustained damage, type effectiveness, same-type attack bonus (STAB), survival time, and how often you must relobby. Maximum DPS is useful, but a fragile attacker that faints quickly is not always the most efficient choice. Rating systems that account for both damage and bulk can produce different results from DPS-only lists. See the rating methodology.

Best Great League movesets
Great League Pokémon must remain at or below 1,500 CP. PvP performance depends on more than displayed move damage: fast-move energy generation, Charged Attack cost, shield pressure, coverage, debuffs, bulk, IVs, and the current cup rules all matter.
| Pokémon | Recommended moveset |
|---|---|
| Lanturn | Spark + Surf + Thunderbolt |
| Clodsire | Poison Sting + Earthquake + Stone Edge |
| Skarmory | Steel Wing or Air Slash + Sky Attack + Brave Bird |
| Annihilape | Counter + Night Slash + Shadow Ball |
| Carbink | Rock Throw + Rock Slide + Moonblast |
Skarmory’s fast attack can be selected according to the matchup and format. Likewise, the best second Charged Attack is not always the move with the highest damage: a lower-cost attack may create more shield pressure or improve coverage.
Best Ultra League movesets
Ultra League has a 2,500 CP limit. Pokémon that are too expensive or too attack-weighted for Great League can become more effective here, and IV spreads may differ from those used below 1,500 CP.

| Swampert | Mud Shot + Hydro Cannon + Earthquake |

Best Master League movesets
Master League has no practical CP cap, so fully powered legendary Pokémon and other high-stat species are especially important. This league rewards high overall stats, but move timing, typing, shields, and matchup coverage remain decisive.
| Pokémon | Recommended moveset |
|---|---|
| Zygarde (Complete Forme) | Dragon Tail + Crunch + Earthquake |
| Dialga (Origin Forme) | Dragon Breath + Iron Head + Roar of Time |

Why raid and PvP movesets are different
Pokémon GO uses separate battle models for PvE and Trainer Battles. The energy requirement for a Charged Attack can differ between Gyms and Raids and Trainer Battles, so raid bars or raid performance cannot be used as a direct substitute for its PvP cost. Niantic explains the distinction in its Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks help guide.
More Charged Attack bars do not automatically mean a move is stronger. Multiple bars generally indicate that the attack can be activated with less energy and used more frequently; total damage, timing, typing, effects, and the Pokémon’s fast attack must all be considered together.

The rebuilt PvP battle system became available to all Trainers on June 23, 2026. Damage now resolves at the end of each turn, and energy is awarded when damage resolves. Charged Attacks begin at the start of the following turn after activation, with Charged Attack damage and effects resolving before Fast Attacks that finish during the Charged Attack sequence. One-turn Fast Attacks now reliably tie when used on the same turn.
Swaps also resolve before damage. If a swap occurs on the same turn an opponent’s Fast Attack completes, the incoming Pokémon receives that damage. If it occurs on the turn an opponent’s Charged Attack starts, the incoming Pokémon receives that Charged Attack. A voluntary quick swap costs one turn, while a forced swap after a faint does not. These changes mean that older advice about sneaks, leaks, and connection-dependent timing may no longer describe the current system. Read Niantic’s 2026 PvP update.
2026 PvP eligibility detail
Mimikyu became eligible for GO Battle League battles on June 23, 2026, but it is not eligible in Competitors Cup. Competitors Cup runs through August 30, 2026, after the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. Always check the rules for the specific cup rather than assuming that a Pokémon legal in standard GO Battle League is legal in every format. See the official Competitors Cup update.

How to check and change a Pokémon’s moves
View the moves you already have
- From the Map View, open Main Menu.
- Tap Pokémon and select the Pokémon.
- Open the summary page and check the Attacks section.
The summary displays the known Fast and Charged Attacks and their displayed damage for Gyms, Raids, and Trainer Battles. The official Pokémon summary guide documents this path.
Use a regular TM
A regular Fast TM teaches a new Fast Attack, while a regular Charged TM teaches a new Charged Attack. Regular TMs select from the Pokémon’s available move pool rather than allowing you to choose a specific move. They cannot teach moves that are exclusive to past events, such as certain former Community Day or Raid Day attacks.
Teach a second Charged Attack
- Open the Pokémon’s summary page.
- Tap New attack.
- Pay the displayed Stardust and Candy cost.
The second Charged Attack can then be used in Raids, Gyms, and Trainer Battles. It is often valuable in PvP because two attacks can provide both shield pressure and coverage, but the cost should be weighed against the Pokémon’s role and your available resources.

Use an Elite TM
- Open your item inventory.
- Select an Elite Fast TM or Elite Charged TM.
- Choose the Pokémon.
- If it knows two Charged Attacks, choose which existing attack to replace.
- Select the desired move and tap Teach Attack.
Elite TMs let you choose a move and can access eligible event-exclusive attacks. They are not simply stronger regular TMs. If the desired move does not appear in the Elite TM list, that move is not currently available for that Pokémon or form through that item. Check Niantic’s Elite TM rules before replacing a move.
How to avoid common moveset mistakes
- Do not treat the highest DPS as universally best. Raid damage, Gym clearing, Rocket battles, and each PvP league reward different traits.
- Do not confuse move bars with PvP energy costs. PvE and PvP use different energy requirements.
- Do not spend an Elite TM before checking availability. A ranking site may show a theoretical best moveset that is event-exclusive or unavailable for your form.
- Do not replace a second Charged Attack casually. Elite Charged TM use requires you to select which existing attack to forget.
- Do not assume a ranking table is a legality guide. Some sites rank maximum DPS and separately identify whether a moveset is currently obtainable. GameInfo’s attacker rankings are an example of why theoretical ranking and availability should be checked separately.
- Do not apply old PvP timing advice without qualification. The June 2026 battle-system changes standardized turn resolution, energy timing, swaps, and Charged Attack starts, although chance-based effects remain probabilistic.
A practical decision rule
- Choose the mode first: raid, Gym, Rocket, Great League, Ultra League, Master League, or a limited cup.
- Check the league cap and Pokémon form: 1,500 CP for Great League, 2,500 CP for Ultra League, and no practical cap for Master League.
- Compare the full moveset: fast-move energy, Charged Attack cost, damage, typing, coverage, bulk, and effects.
- Confirm availability in-game: especially for event-exclusive attacks and Elite-TM-only options.
- Spend resources only after checking the replacement screen: this is especially important when the Pokémon already has two Charged Attacks.
For most players, the best moveset is the strongest available combination for the activity they actually play—not the move list with the biggest headline DPS number.
