Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed ran from February 5 to February 11, 2024, and has ended. Its headline features were the debut of Drampa, boosted Lucky trade chances, extra Candy for accurate throws, and a Global Challenge that unlocked additional encounters and evolution attacks.
When did the 2024 Lunar New Year event run?
Lunar New Year: Dragons Unleashed ran from Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday, February 11, 2024, at 8:00 p.m., local time. Its limited-time activities and paid Timed Research are no longer available.

Drampa, the Placid Pokémon, debuted in Pokémon GO during the event. The official Pokémon GO announcement said a Shiny encounter might be possible; it did not publish odds.
What event-wide bonuses were active?
- Increased chance for Pokémon to become Lucky when traded.
- Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
- Additional Candy for successful catches made with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.
- Trainers level 31 and up had an increased chance to receive Candy XL for successful catches with those throw grades.
The announcement described these as increased chances but did not provide numerical rates.

- Magikarp
- Dratini
- Shuckle
- Fennekin
- Skrelp
- Noibat
Jangmo-o was an additional, less common possibility: the announcement said some Trainers might encounter it, without giving a spawn rate or guarantee.

Event-themed Field Research encounters included Dratini, Trapinch, Swablu, Gible, Darumaka, Druddigon, Deino, Skrelp, Tyrunt, Goomy, Turtonator, and Drampa. The announcement did not provide task text or map particular tasks to particular encounters, so the list should not be read as a task-by-task reward guide.

What did the Global Challenge unlock?
The challenge asked Trainers worldwide to make 1,000,000,000 Nice Throws. On completion, its rewards were available to all Trainers for the remainder of the event, alongside festive fireworks. These were additional unlocks, separate from the event’s baseline wild and raid lineups.

- Additional wild encounters: Bagon, Gible, Darumaka, Axew, Deino, Tyrunt, and Falinks.
- Additional raids: Jangmo-o in one-star raids and Salamence in three-star raids.

The event announcement offered optional, event-exclusive Timed Research for US$2.00 or the equivalent local-currency pricing tier. Listed rewards included Stardust, XP, two Lucky Eggs, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. Players could gift tickets to friends at Great Friends friendship level or higher; tickets could not be bought with PokéCoins.
