A Mega Swampert raid victory rewards Mega Energy and a chance to catch Swampert in its regular form. The available official guidance does not establish Mega Swampert’s current counters, a recommended party size, or whether it is in raids today, so check the live raid listing before planning around its availability.
What happens in a Mega Swampert raid?
Mega Raids appear with a Mega icon on the Map View or Nearby screen, and you join them like other raids. After defeating the boss, you receive Mega Energy and an opportunity to catch it. The Mega Raid summary’s Speed stat determines how much Mega Energy you earn: defeating the boss faster earns more.
The catch encounter is with Swampert in its regular form, not Mega Swampert. The Pokémon GO Help Center describes the reward as “Mega Energy as a reward as well as an opportunity to catch the Raid Boss” in its Mega Raid Battles help article.
How to prepare when Mega Swampert appears
Choose attacks that exploit the boss’s type
Niantic’s general raid advice is to use Pokémon with attacks that are super effective against the Raid Boss’s type. Its support guidance also notes that Mega-Evolved Pokémon provide bonuses in raids. See Niantic’s raid-boss advice.

That guidance is a general rule, not a Mega Swampert-specific counter list. The available official information does not identify its particular weakness, rank counter Pokémon, recommend moves, or estimate the number of players needed. Don’t treat any specific team or solo/duo claim as confirmed by this guide.
Check the live listing before organizing
A creator video published August 18, 2026, reported Mega Swampert’s return to raids, but that is time-sensitive secondary reporting and does not confirm availability on October 8, 2026. Check the in-game raid listings or a current official event announcement before arranging a group.

What Mega Evolution changes
Mega Evolution is temporary and gives a Pokémon a significant stat boost that improves its battle performance. It does not change that Pokémon’s Fast or Charged Attacks, and a Trainer can have only one Mega-Evolved Pokémon active at a time. How to get more Mega Energy
Mega Energy is specific to a Pokémon species. Niantic says it can be earned by defeating a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a Mega Raid or completing certain research tasks. Walking with a Buddy from an evolutionary line that has previously been Mega-Evolved may also sometimes earn Mega Energy. Details are in the Mega Energy support article.

Is this a special Mega Raid type?
Niantic distinguishes standard Mega Raids from Mega Legendary Raids and Super Mega Raids. It describes Mega Legendary Raids as more difficult than standard Mega Raids, and Super Mega Raids as the most challenging, with an enraged phase and shields. The available information does not establish that a Mega Swampert appearance uses either special category, so check the in-game raid details rather than assuming it does.
