It introduced Tatsugiri in three regionally distributed forms, increased the appearance of water-type Pokémon, and featured one- and three-star raids. The optional paid Timed Research and event Collection Challenges expired at the event’s close; the official announcement did not publish their complete task lists or Pokémon rosters.
When did Water Festival 2025 run?
The event ran from Tuesday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The paid Timed Research had the same deadline: players needed to finish its tasks and claim its rewards by 8:00 p.m. on July 20. The event is over, so those event tasks and challenges are no longer available. Niantic’s event announcement gives the schedule.

Which Pokémon appeared in the wild?
These Pokémon appeared more frequently in the wild during the event:
- Squirtle
- Slowpoke
- Krabby
- Staryu
- Magikarp
- Marill
- Barboach
- Clamperl
- Buizel
- Finneon
- Wimpod
The announcement also said trainers might encounter Lanturn, Feebas, Palpitoad, and Tirtouga.

Shiny encounters
The announcement listed Squirtle, Slowpoke, Krabby, Staryu, Magikarp, Marill, Barboach, Clamperl, Buizel, Finneon, Wimpod, Feebas, and Tirtouga as potentially shiny if lucky. It separately stated that the chance to encounter Shiny Staryu and Shiny Tirtouga was increased. No numerical shiny odds were provided, so the announcement does not establish a specific rate.

Gyarados and scarf-wearing Lapras could be shiny if lucky. The official announcement did not list five-star or Mega Raids, so no higher-tier lineup can be confirmed from it.

The same regional distribution applied to Tatsugiri in one-star raids.
What bonuses and other event features were included?
- Rainy Lure Modules lasted two hours.
- Nice Throws or better awarded increased Candy.
- The chance to encounter Shiny Staryu and Shiny Tirtouga was increased, without a published numerical rate.
- Scarf-wearing Lapras caught from raids could, if lucky, have a Seasonal special background.
- Event-themed Field Research tasks awarded Mega Energy and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. The announcement did not give individual task-and-reward pairs.
What were the Timed Research and Collection Challenge rewards?
Paid Timed Research
The optional event-exclusive Timed Research cost US$4.99 or the equivalent local pricing tier. Announced reward categories included one Rainy Lure Module, an event-themed avatar pose, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon, including Gyarados and scarf-wearing Lapras. The announcement did not enumerate every task or reward, so a complete task-by-task list cannot be verified from the official event page.

Tickets could be purchased for oneself or gifted to Pokémon GO friends at Great Friends friendship level or higher. They could not be purchased with PokéCoins. The announcement described purchases as non-refundable, subject to applicable law and the stated Terms of Service exceptions. All tasks had to be completed and rewards claimed by the event deadline.
Collection Challenges
Water Festival included catching-focused Collection Challenges. Completing them awarded XP, Stardust, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon, but the official announcement did not name each challenge or publish its complete Pokémon roster.

Niantic’s general Collection Challenge guidance says players can see included Pokémon in Today View under the Events tab. A challenge’s details specify whether a Pokémon must be caught, hatched, evolved, or traded. Some event Pokémon may be available only through research rewards or raids, and challenges usually disappear when their event ends. These are general rules, not a record of Water Festival 2025’s specific rosters.

Three Tatsugiri-form backpacks—Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy—were listed as avatar items purchasable in the in-game shop during the event. Niantic said they would remain available after the event.
The Web Store’s Water Festival Ultra Ticket Box was listed at US$4.99 or a local equivalent and included an event ticket plus one Star Piece at no additional cost. These were digital game-store offers; the announcement did not describe a physical product.
