The Pokémon GO XP Celebration was a limited-time event that ended October 14, 2025. The permanent Trainer-level expansion followed on October 15, raising the cap from level 50 to 80. The event boosted XP earning; the update changed long-term progression, added rewards, and set level 80 at 203,353,000 cumulative XP—with additional research tasks required for levels 71–80.
What was the Pokémon GO XP Celebration?
The XP Celebration was an in-game event running from August 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. PDT through October 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. local time. It was a past event by the time the Trainer level-cap update launched the next day. Pokémon GO’s event announcement listed these bonuses:

- Double Catch XP for Nice, Great, and Excellent throws.
- An additional 3,000 XP for winning a Raid.
- An additional 3,000 XP for winning a Max Battle.
The bonuses could stack with other event bonuses. Trainers at level 5 and above could also access Timed Research with the chance to earn over 7 million XP. That was a potential reward, not a guaranteed payout for every player.
Level 47 task adjustment during the event
The announcement also said the weekly 25 km exploration requirement in a level-47 Level-Up Research task would change from eight completions to two. That was a historical adjustment announced for the event period; it should not be read as confirmation of the task’s current requirements.

What changed in the level 80 update?
On October 15, 2025, Pokémon GO increased the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80 and rebalanced the progression curve so Trainers could reach levels more frequently. This is a change to Trainer level, not a raise to Pokémon’s own level cap. The official detailed update announcement describes the new system.
Previously earned XP counted toward the new levels
When the new curve took effect, the game used each Trainer’s existing XP to determine their new level. Pokémon GO said no one would lose levels and that Trainers who were level 23 or higher would gain at least one level. Because the curve changed, the XP needed for the next level could also change.

Level-Up Research and retroactive rewards
Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41–50 were removed, while new tasks were associated with levels 71–80. Pokémon GO also said rewards from previous levels, including avatar and storage-related rewards, would be granted retroactively. The expanded progression added Pokémon, Item, Gift, and Postcard storage increases, along with avatar items beginning at level 25. Trainers level 70 and above also received an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends.
How much XP does level 80 require?
The official update lists 203,353,000 cumulative XP for level 80. These are total XP milestones, not the amount needed solely to move from the previous milestone. Levels 71–80 also require completing level-specific Level-Up Research tasks, so XP alone does not satisfy every requirement for those levels.

What other XP-related feature did the update describe?
The detailed announcement described a Daily Adventure Egg for Trainers level 15 and above: a free daily egg automatically placed in its own Incubator when a Trainer first logs in on a new day. It hatches after 1 km and awards 10,000 XP. A Trainer can hold and incubate only one at a time. These are the mechanics described in the 2025 announcement; it does not establish whether they have since changed.

Was the XP Celebration Ultra Box part of the event?
The October 2025 update announcement described an XP Celebration Ultra Box in the Pokémon GO Web Store for US$9.99 or the equivalent local pricing tier. It contained 15 Lucky Eggs, one Super Incubator, one Incubator, five Incense, and two Lure Modules, with a limit of three per player. This was a digital Web Store offer at announcement time, not a physical product; current availability is not established by that announcement.
