Which Pokémon Legends: Z-A version should you buy?
Choose based on your console, whether you already own the game, and whether you want the Mega Dimension DLC included. The Pokémon Company’s May 27, 2025 announcement describes the Switch 2 Edition as offering improved graphics and frame rates; it does not identify additional base-game story content for that edition.

The Switch 2 Edition is playable on a Switch, but that does not give a Switch the edition’s Switch 2-specific enhancements. If you own the original game, the upgrade pack is the route to those enhancements; if you want Mega Dimension as well, compare that route with buying the DLC separately or waiting for the announced physical bundle.
What preorder bonuses are still available?
The original preorder campaign has ended. The Pokémon Company’s July 22, 2025 bonus announcement set February 28, 2026 as the claim deadline for the Ralts gift and the qualifying digital-purchase deadline for the Poké Ball code. The code itself expired March 10, 2026. These offers are not currently claimable under the published terms.

Ralts holding Gardevoirite
Either the physical or digital game qualified for a Ralts holding Gardevoirite, claimed in-game through Mystery Gift using “Get via Internet.” The claim required an internet connection and a Nintendo Account-linked profile; Mystery Gift becomes available after about one hour of play. The deadline was February 28, 2026. The announcement also says Gardevoirite can be obtained through normal gameplay.
100 Poké Balls for digital purchases
Qualifying digital purchases made by February 28, 2026 received a serial code by email. That code expired March 10, 2026.

Mega Dimension early-purchase balls
The historical Mega Dimension early-purchase offer was a Luxurious Poké Ball Set containing 12 balls: three each of four varieties. Its purchase deadline was February 28, 2026, and its serial code expired March 10, 2026. Details are in the official Mega Dimension bonus announcement.

What bonus comes with the announced physical bundle?
The Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle announced for October 29, 2026 includes a code for 100 Ultra Balls. The September 30, 2026 bundle announcement says the code has no expiry date, although termination of network services could prevent redemption. Redeeming it requires internet access and a Nintendo Account-linked profile; Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. This is a bundle bonus, not an extension of the expired original preorder offers.
Which version makes sense for your setup?
- You play on Nintendo Switch and do not own the game: The original Switch version is the straightforward choice. The Switch 2 Edition also runs on Switch, but its Switch 2-specific enhancements are absent there.
- You play on Nintendo Switch 2: Consider the Switch 2 Edition for its improved graphics and frame rates.
- You already own the original game: Buy the upgrade pack if you want the Switch 2 Edition’s enhancements. Buy Mega Dimension separately if you also want the DLC.
- You want physical media and the expansion: The announced bundle puts the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension on one game card, with the 100 Ultra Ball code described above. It is scheduled for October 29, 2026, after the October 8, 2026 date of the latest announcement.
- You have not finished the main story: You can own Mega Dimension, but its story requires completing the main game first.
