The comments are subjective reactions in two Reddit discussions, not a graphics benchmark or a measure of what the fanbase as a whole thinks. Other participants were more accepting, including some who put gameplay ahead of visual detail.
What fans criticized in the trailers
In a Reddit thread responding to the second trailer, participants objected to the apparent flatness of horizontal and vertical building surfaces, low-detail textures, and what some described as a sterile look. A later closer-look video prompted similar reactions: commenters again called the buildings flat, repetitive, or lifeless. Informal phrases such as “empty streets” and “same 5 story building copy and pasted” convey the tone of individual comments, not a formal assessment of the game’s environments. The reaction in those threads was not unanimous
The closer-look discussion also included more positive or accepting responses, including comments that gameplay mattered more than graphical detail. Neither thread is a representative poll, and the comments do not establish how common either opinion is among fans. There is no dependable percentage to attach to the criticism.

The visual criticism does not establish why the buildings look the way they do. No developer explanation for the treatment was established in the sources cited here, so claims that it reflects a particular performance limit or production decision would be speculation.
For readers considering the game, edition compatibility is worth checking. The Pokémon Company lists the Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on its official buying page. Its September 30, 2026 announcement says the Switch 2 Edition can be played on an original Switch, but Switch 2-specific features are not included on that console. The same announcement schedules a game-card bundle containing the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension for October 29, 2026; that date is still in the future as of October 8, 2026.
