Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s New Mega Evolutions Are Officially Documented—but the Pokédex “Bad News” Claim Is Unverified

Pokémon’s official Pokédex now includes entries for over 40 newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon, but the update does not confirm that any entries are missing or threatened.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s newly added Mega Evolution entries are no longer just a leak story: The Pokémon Company says its official Pokédex now includes artwork and entries for over 40 newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon. But the available official announcement does not say that any Pokédex entries have been cut, denied, or put at risk. The “bad news” claim needs specific evidence that has not been established.

What is confirmed about the new Mega Evolutions?

In a January 13, 2026 announcement, The Pokémon Company said it had added Pokédex pages, artwork, and entries for over 40 newly discovered Mega-Evolved Pokémon. The company’s announcement names Mega Meganium and Mega Absol Z as examples, but the number is the only roster-wide figure it provides; it does not, by itself, identify every Pokémon or explain how each is obtained in the game.

That makes the most useful distinction one of evidence: these are now officially documented Mega Evolutions, regardless of whether some information about them first circulated as a leak. The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A site describes Mega Evolution as a battle mechanic in the game, and the published Pokédex pages provide official artwork and entries. The announcement does not confirm the provenance of any earlier leak.

Does the Pokédex update mean some entries are in bad news?

Not on the evidence available here. The official Pokédex announcement confirms that new entries were added; it does not say that any specific entries are missing, removed, inaccessible, or threatened. Without identifying the exact entries and a source that supports that interpretation, “bad news” is an unverified implication rather than a conclusion readers should take as fact.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension DLC - Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
  • Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
  • Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
  • Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
  • Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game

It is also important not to treat a Pokédex page as proof that a Pokémon is available through a particular route or edition. The announcement establishes that the pages exist, not the full in-game acquisition conditions for every form. Those details should be tied to an official announcement or the game’s own information when discussing a specific Pokémon.

What Mega Garchomp Z shows about DLC forms

Mega Garchomp Z is a concrete example of an officially announced form tied to the Mega Dimension DLC. In its February 27, 2026 announcement, The Pokémon Company says this form differs from the previously discovered Mega Garchomp: it is constantly airborne, better suited to speed-oriented combat, and is Dragon type only rather than retaining Garchomp’s Ground typing. See the official Mega Garchomp Z announcement for the company’s description.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A Standard - Nintendo Switch [Digital Code]
  • Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
  • As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.

The same announcement says players can obtain Garchompite Z by defeating Mega Garchomp Z in a special hyperspace distortion, which requires the Mega Dimension DLC. That is a confirmed DLC-specific acquisition condition for this form; it should not be generalized to other new Mega Evolutions.

How to distinguish base-game Mega Evolutions from DLC additions

Not every newly documented Mega Evolution should be assumed to have the same availability. Base-game additions, returning Mega Evolutions, DLC forms, ranked rewards, and Mystery Gift rewards are distinct categories. A guide last updated December 12, 2025 separates several of those categories and describes Mega Evolution as a temporary battle transformation triggered with a matching Mega Stone after filling a gauge. Because that guide predates later official announcements, treat it as dated context rather than a definitive current roster or acquisition list; see the GamesRadar Mega Evolution guide.

  • Base game versus DLC: Check whether a specific form or encounter is explicitly tied to an expansion. Mega Garchomp Z’s hyperspace distortion, for example, requires Mega Dimension.
  • Returning Mega Evolution versus new form: A species may have an earlier Mega Evolution and a distinct newly announced form, so the form’s name and details matter.
  • Official confirmation versus inference: A published Pokédex entry or company announcement confirms what it states; it does not automatically establish a leak’s accuracy on unrelated claims.
  • Form-specific details: Typing, battle traits, Mega Stone, and access method can differ between forms of the same species.

What players can verify now

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is listed as available now on the official game site. That site also announced a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle for October 29, 2026. The date is the one stated in the September 30, 2026 announcement; as of October 8, 2026, it is still upcoming. Consult the official game site for its current availability and edition information.

For a claim that a particular Pokédex entry is missing or at risk, look for the exact entry in question and an attributable source explaining what has happened to it. The over-40-entry announcement alone cannot establish that kind of problem.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
