Which shiny hunting method should you use?

Outbreaks are the most direct option when the Pokémon you want is appearing in one. If there is no suitable outbreak, ordinary encounters remain an option; breeding is another route, but its exact setup and odds are not established by the sources cited here.
How to hunt a mass outbreak
- Find an outbreak for your target. Outbreaks concentrate encounters with one species, making them a natural choice for a species-specific hunt.
- Defeat 60 Pokémon from that outbreak. GameWith’s secondary odds reference reports improved rates at outbreak knockout thresholds of 30 and 60. The commonly cited highest outbreak tier starts at 60.
- Stop defeating Pokémon and check the spawns. Once you have reached 60 knockouts, inspect the Pokémon that appear as the outbreak spawns refresh. Avoid further knockouts unless you are deliberately continuing the outbreak.
- Add boosts if available. The strongest commonly cited combination is the 60-knockout outbreak tier, the Shiny Charm, and Level 3 Sparkling Power.
The knockout thresholds and precise odds below come from GameWith, not an official Pokémon probability table. The official event announcement confirms that special limited-time outbreaks can increase shiny likelihood, but that statement applies to designated events—not every standard outbreak.
What odds can you expect?

These are per-encounter probabilities. A 1-in-512.4 rate does not mean one shiny is due every 512 checks: each encounter can fail, and a shiny can appear sooner or later than that. The actual time a hunt takes also depends on how quickly you can check encounters and refresh spawns.

What each boost contributes
Outbreak knockouts
The secondary reference reports improved shiny odds after defeating 30 and 60 Pokémon from an outbreak. For the commonly cited strongest outbreak setup, reach 60 knockouts, then focus on checking the refreshed spawns rather than defeating more Pokémon.
Shiny Charm
The Shiny Charm is an in-game item that adds shiny-odds rolls according to GameWith’s table. It is not a physical accessory or a separate purchase.

Level 3 Sparkling Power
Level 3 Sparkling Power from a sandwich adds shiny-odds rolls in the same secondary table and can be combined with outbreak bonuses. Sparkling Power can also be useful when targeting a type rather than a particular outbreak species. The available sources do not establish sandwich recipes, ingredient requirements, or the duration of the effect, so check the in-game sandwich options rather than relying on an unsupported recipe.
Special event outbreaks and updates
Some limited-time mass outbreak events offer an additional shiny likelihood. The Pokémon Company International’s July 22, 2025 announcement said, “Shiny Pokémon are more likely to appear during these special events.” That referred to designated event outbreaks; the announcement’s event roster and dates are historical, not a live schedule.

For event participation, the official announcement says players need the latest Poké Portal News and the latest update data. Check the live event listing and the game’s current update information before planning around a special outbreak. Nintendo’s support page lists version 4.0.0, released June 2, 2025, as the latest update shown there; because support pages can change, that listing should not be treated as confirmation of the current version indefinitely.
