Its official previews spotlight Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, dragons, and new ACE SPEC cards, with featured cards ranging from Pikachu ex to Technical Machine: Fluorite. This is a preview of the announced set and its mechanics, not a firsthand playtest or a guide to the 2026 competitive metagame.
When did Surging Sparks come out, and how large is the set?
The Pokémon Company announced Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks for release on November 8, 2024. Its official expansion page lists over 250 cards. Separately, the October 9 preview says the company was revealing five cards from “over 190 new ones”; that preview wording is not the same as the page’s total-card figure. The Pokémon Company’s October 9, 2024 preview is the source for both figures.
What cards and themes stand out in Surging Sparks?
The previews frame the set around Stellar Tera Pokémon ex and Pokémon associated with The Indigo Disk, while also calling attention to dragons and new ACE SPEC cards. The featured selections show a mix of Pokémon, characters, and Trainer cards rather than a complete ranking of the expansion.
Stellar Tera Pokémon ex and featured Pokémon
Pikachu ex is presented as a Stellar Tera Pokémon ex. The later preview also features Alolan Exeggutor ex, alongside Appletun and other Pokémon. These are examples from Pokémon’s previews, not a claim that any one card defines the set’s value or strength.

Trainer cards and mechanics
The October preview includes Magneton, Exeggcute, Technical Machine: Fluorite, and Lisia’s Appeal. A later preview highlights Drayton, a Supporter that lets its player look at the top seven cards of their deck and take a Pokémon and a Trainer card from among them into hand. The October 23, 2024 preview describes these cards and effects.
Technical Machine: Fluorite
Pokémon’s October preview says Technical Machine: Fluorite’s attack costs Grass, Water, and Psychic Energy and heals all damage from each of your Tera Pokémon. The attack also discards all Energy, a substantial cost that shapes how a deck would need to use it. The preview mentions Reversal Energy as a possible combination when behind on Prize cards; that is the publisher’s suggestion, not a tested strategy recommendation.
Rank #2
- The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks Booster Bundle contains 6 Booster Packs from the new Surging Sparks expansion
- A great way to expand your collection of this new expansion
- A great gift idea for Pokemon fans.
Appletun
The preview describes Appletun’s Melting Sweetness as dealing 50 damage and preventing the Defending Pokémon from attacking during the opponent’s next turn. Its Wild Tackle deals 130 damage and also deals 20 damage to Appletun. Check the official card text before relying on these details for deck construction.
Is Surging Sparks more interesting for collecting or playing?
It has clear hooks for both, but the answer depends on what you value. For collecting, the previews offer recognizable Pokémon, character cards, and the set’s Stellar Tera and dragon themes. For play, evaluate individual effects, Energy costs, setup needs, and interactions rather than assuming a featured card is automatically powerful. The official previews sample cards; they do not provide a comprehensive independent card ranking.
