Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness’s Shadow Pokémon are found in trainer battles, and each can be tracked by its trainer and encounter location. For the full game-specific roster—including levels, Heart Gauge values, catch rates, held items, moves, trainers, and locations—use the Pokémon XD section of Bulbapedia’s Shadow Pokémon list. The page also covers Pokémon Colosseum, so use only the section headed “List of Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.”

How to use the Pokémon XD roster

The roster table is the practical checklist for a playthrough: it identifies each Shadow Pokémon and the trainer and location where it appears, alongside its level, Heart Gauge, catch rate, held item, and moves. Early entries include Teddiursa at the Pokémon HQ Lab and Ledyba at Gateon Port; later entries include Shadow Lugia and Dragonite.

Keep the game-specific section separate from the page’s Pokémon Colosseum section. The combined page’s overall count includes both games and is not a Pokémon XD total. Its notes also flag two details that can confuse checklist comparisons: Official Nintendo Player’s Guide screenshots show Ralts and Nosepass at levels that differ from the final game, and a Purification Chamber tutorial example features a Shadow Loudred that no trainer has.

What to do if you miss a Shadow Pokémon

Do not assume every missed encounter can be recovered in the same way. The roster reference notes that some missed Shadow Pokémon may reappear through Miror B. or be encountered at Poké Spots, depending on the Pokémon and circumstances. Voltorb is a special case: the reference identifies it as unrecoverable if lost in its initial encounter. Check the notes attached to the particular Pokémon in the roster rather than relying on a blanket rule.

How to purify Shadow Pokémon

Purification is part of completing the collection. Early on, using a Shadow Pokémon in battle and using cologne can reduce its Heart Gauge. Once the Purification Chamber is available, it provides another way to work toward purification: place the Shadow Pokémon in the center and purified Pokémon around it. Their types affect the chamber’s tempo. The scanned instruction manual says a Shadow Pokémon with its Heart Gauge at zero can complete purification at the Purify Chamber on the first floor of the Pokémon HQ Lab.

Restrictions before purification

In the original game, Shadow Pokémon cannot level up or evolve, learn TMs, receive nicknames, or be traded to Game Boy Advance games. These are Pokémon XD gameplay restrictions, not a statement about present-day Pokémon transfer services or policies.

How many Shadow Pokémon are in Pokémon XD?

Published references conflict: one roster search result gives 83, while another guide excerpt says 82. The available references do not explain the discrepancy, so neither total should be treated as reconciled here. Use the individual entries in the XD-only roster as your checklist rather than relying on a headline count.
