The prxdrvpe.dll errors you may see
prxdrvpe.dll may trigger messages such as:

The 60-second answer
prxdrvpe.dll is the Proxifier Portable Edition Network Engine, a third-party component from Initex. It is not a Windows system DLL and should not be downloaded separately or copied into C:WindowsSystem32.

The safest fix is to identify the Proxifier Portable folder, preserve any profiles you need, download a fresh official Proxifier Portable Edition package from Initex, extract the complete ZIP to a new folder, and run its included Proxifier.exe. The current official package is ProxifierPE.zip and supports Windows x86 and x64.
If the file came from an unknown VPN, proxy utility, cracked application, temporary folder, or unrelated startup location, do not restore it automatically. Remove the suspicious program and scan Windows first.

What prxdrvpe.dll does
Proxifier Portable uses its own network engine to intercept application network connections and route them through the configured proxy rules. The Portable Edition runs from its copied or extracted folder and does not use the same installation model as the Standard Edition.
On 64-bit Windows, the engine files are separated by architecture:
prxdrvpe.dllis generally the 32-bit engine.prxdrvpe64.dllis generally the 64-bit companion.
A 32-bit host application needs the 32-bit engine. A 64-bit host needs the 64-bit engine. Do not combine a DLL from one Proxifier release with Proxifier.exe or the companion engine from another release.

The Standard Edition is different. It uses a Windows Filtering Platform callout driver, while the Portable Edition uses its engine DLL. Installing or repairing the Standard Edition driver will not replace a missing Portable Edition file.
Why the error happens
The usual causes are:
- The Portable Edition folder was copied incompletely.
- Antivirus software quarantined the DLL.
- Files from different Proxifier versions were mixed.
- The host application uses the wrong 32-bit or 64-bit engine.
- An unauthorized VPN or proxy product bundled Proxifier files.
- Proxifier’s network hook conflicts with security software or another application.
- A separate runtime dependency is missing.
- Windows has broader component corruption, although this is less likely because
prxdrvpe.dllis not a Windows file.
Mozilla has documented crashes involving prxdrvpe.dll and prxdrvpe64.dll, including DNS-related call stacks. Proxifier also explained that unauthorized bundled copies could crash when a host process terminated Proxifier.exe while the hook DLL remained active.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Proxifier Portable package
This is the most likely solution for a missing or damaged file.
Before replacing the folder
- Close the affected application.
- Close Proxifier from the notification area if it is running.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Look for
Proxifier.exeor the affected host program. - Select it and choose End task.
- Locate the existing Proxifier Portable folder.
- Copy any profile or configuration files you need to a separate backup folder.
Do not delete the old folder until you have saved important profiles.

Install a clean copy
- Open Initex’s official Proxifier download page.
- Download the current Proxifier Portable Edition ZIP, listed as
ProxifierPE.zip. - Choose the package matching the affected Windows and application architecture.
- Right-click the ZIP file and select Properties.
- If an Unblock checkbox appears, select it and choose Apply.
- Right-click the ZIP again and select Extract All.
- Extract it to a new folder, such as
C:AppsProxifierPortable. - Open the extracted folder.
- Run the included
Proxifier.exe.
Do not copy only prxdrvpe.dll. The executable, engine files, configuration files, and folder structure belong together.
The repair worked if Proxifier opens without the missing-file message and the affected application starts normally with the expected proxy behavior. If the error returns immediately, continue with the quarantine and architecture checks below.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Microsoft Defender may remove or quarantine a legitimate file, but a detection is not automatically proof that the file is malicious. Verify where the file came from before restoring it.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection related to
prxdrvpe.dll. - Inspect the full file path and threat name.
- Check whether the path belongs to the official Proxifier Portable folder.
- If the file came from an unknown bundle, temporary directory, or suspicious application, choose Remove or leave it quarantined.
- If it came from a trusted official Proxifier package, use Actions and choose Restore only when you have verified its provenance.
After restoring the file, reinstall the complete official package rather than relying on a single restored DLL. If Defender removes the replacement again, do not repeatedly whitelist it. Update Defender, scan the system, and investigate the owning application.

Fix 3: Replace mixed or mismatched engine files
A “procedure entry point” error or an immediate crash often indicates that the files do not belong to the same build.
Check for these conditions:
Proxifier.execame from one folder andprxdrvpe.dllfrom another.prxdrvpe.dllwas copied overprxdrvpe64.dll, or vice versa.- An old Portable Edition was updated by replacing only selected files.
- A 32-bit host is being started with a 64-bit engine.
- A 64-bit host is being started with a 32-bit engine.
The reliable correction is to rename the old Proxifier folder, extract a complete current package, and launch the new Proxifier.exe. Do not build a replacement folder by collecting DLLs from different downloads.

In Proxifier, the engine settings are available under Profile → Advanced → Proxification Engine. On 64-bit Windows, the 32-bit and 64-bit engines can be configured independently. If disabling or changing the engine stops the crash, the problem is likely a hook conflict or engine mismatch rather than Windows corruption.

Some VPN and proxy products have distributed unauthorized Proxifier bundles. A matching filename does not make such a copy trustworthy.
Find the file’s location:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Open Task Manager.
- Right-click the affected application or process.
- Choose Open file location, if available.
- Examine the surrounding folder and application name.
A legitimate copy normally belongs inside the Proxifier Portable application folder. Be cautious if the file is inside:
- An unfamiliar VPN or proxy product.
- A cracked or modified application.
- A temporary directory.
- A random folder under
AppData. - An unrelated startup or system location.
Right-click the DLL, choose Properties, and inspect the Digital Signatures and Details tabs. The filename alone is not sufficient evidence. Palo Alto Networks has also listed PrxDrvPE.dll and PrxDrvPE64.dll among libraries checked by PowerSniff malware, so provenance matters.
If the owner is suspicious:
- Uninstall the related VPN, proxy, or bundled application from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Run a scan in Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
- Restart Windows.
- Install Proxifier directly from Initex only if you actually need it.
Fix 5: Check for another missing dependency
If the error names VCRUNTIME*.dll, MSVCP*.dll, or another Microsoft runtime rather than prxdrvpe.dll, the engine may be present but unable to load its dependency.

Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official download documentation. Match the package architecture to the application:
- x86 for a 32-bit application.
- x64 for a 64-bit application.
- ARM64 for an ARM64 application.
Do not install a runtime merely because prxdrvpe.dll is present. There is no verified evidence that this specific DLL universally requires a particular Visual C++ package.

Fix 6: Repair broader Windows component corruption
Because prxdrvpe.dll belongs to Proxifier, Windows repair commands will not reconstruct it. Use DISM and SFC only when other Windows components or unrelated applications are also failing.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. Success means the commands report that component repair or system-file verification completed, but you still need to reinstall Proxifier if its own DLL is missing.

Fix 7: Update security software and relevant drivers
A network-hooking DLL can interact with antivirus, firewalls, VPN filters, and network drivers. Temporarily disabling Proxifier’s proxy engine or closing the affected security application for a controlled test can show whether the crash is caused by a hook conflict. Do not leave security protection disabled permanently.
To check network drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the relevant adapter.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Device Manager will not repair a missing prxdrvpe.dll, and updating drivers is not the primary fix unless the failure involves network filtering or broader connectivity problems.
Manually checking adapter models and driver versions can be tedious when several devices are listed. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing outdated drivers; driver installation is handled by the full version, and it is not required to restore Proxifier’s own files.
What not to do
Do not download an isolated DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong architecture, or a file from an incompatible release. Even a clean copy may not fix the application because the surrounding Proxifier files are missing or mismatched.
Use the complete official Proxifier Portable ZIP instead.
Do not copy it to System32
prxdrvpe.dll is not a Windows system component. Placing it in C:WindowsSystem32 can hide the real ownership problem and create confusion between applications. Restore it to the Proxifier application folder supplied by Initex.

Do not use regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration procedures such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that prxdrvpe.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX DLL.

is not a standard repair. An error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found would be expected for a non-registering runtime or hook DLL and would not prove that the file is corrupt.
Do not use registry cleaners
Registry cleaners cannot recreate a missing Proxifier package and may remove useful application settings. Repair the owning application instead.
