Publicly indexed copies include older Proxifier releases, including the v3.42 line and earlier versions. Proxifier’s current official download page also offers a newer Portable Edition package, but you should not assume that an internal DLL version from one release is compatible with another.

The official Proxifier download page is the safe source for the current Portable Edition archive. Its official legacy download page is appropriate when an older application specifically requires the legacy v3.42 package.
What the Windows error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because prxdrvpe64.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because prxdrvpe64.dll was not found.”
- “prxdrvpe64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These are Windows loader messages. They do not always prove that the named file itself is absent. The file may exist while one of its dependencies is missing, incompatible, corrupted, or blocked by security software.
The “not designed to run on Windows” wording usually points to corruption, a wrong architecture, an incomplete update, or a replaced binary. It is not proof that the file is a Windows component.
Fix 1: Restore the complete Proxifier package
This is the most likely and safest fix.
For Proxifier Portable Edition
- Close Proxifier and the program showing the error.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select any remaining Proxifier or related process and choose End task.
- Back up your Proxifier profiles or configuration files if you need them.
- Remove or rename the damaged Proxifier folder. Renaming it to
Proxifier-oldlets you recover files later without mixing old and new binaries. - Open Initex’s official Proxifier Downloads page in your browser.
- Download the Portable Edition archive for the release your application requires.
- Extract the entire ZIP file to a new folder, such as
C:ToolsProxifier. - Start Proxifier from that newly extracted folder.
- Test the application that previously produced the error.
Do not copy only prxdrvpe64.dll from one archive into another installation. Proxifier’s engine may depend on companion files, configuration, or a matching executable. Replacing the complete folder keeps those files aligned.
If the affected program is an older legitimate product that specifically shipped Proxifier components, obtain that product again from its own developer rather than substituting the newest Proxifier files.
For Proxifier Standard Edition
Standard Edition is installed differently from Portable Edition. Use Windows’ installed-app controls or the original installer:

Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Proxifier.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall, or choose Modify or Repair if the installer provides those options.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Download the matching Standard Edition installer from Initex’s official Proxifier site.
- Install it, then test the program again.
If Proxifier is not listed, it may be a Portable Edition folder or a component bundled inside another application. Find the executable named in the error and repair that parent application instead.

Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an application DLL. Do not restore it automatically just because the filename looks familiar.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Open the detection involving
prxdrvpe64.dll. - Check the detected path, detection name, and parent application.
- Restore or allow the file only if the parent program came from a trusted official installer and the location is sensible.
- Prefer reinstalling that trusted application after reviewing the detection.
If the file was inside an unknown VPN, cracked software folder, temporary directory, or suspicious startup location, do not whitelist it. Some unauthorized VPN bundles have included Proxifier components, and a matching filename does not make every copy safe.
If the file returns to quarantine after reinstalling, stop repeatedly allowing it. Scan the complete installer, obtain a fresh copy from the official vendor, and investigate the parent program.
Fix 3: Check the file’s path, signature, and architecture
Before making security exclusions, verify what application is trying to load the DLL.

- Choose Open file location.
- Look for
prxdrvpe64.dllin that application folder. - Right-click the DLL and choose Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Review the Details tab for product and company information.
- On the General tab, note the full path and file size.
A normal Portable Edition copy should be in the Proxifier folder or a legitimate product folder that intentionally includes the engine. A copy in C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, a random temporary folder, or an unexpected startup directory deserves additional investigation.

You can also calculate a hash in PowerShell:
Get-FileHash "C:PathToprxdrvpe64.dll" -Algorithm SHA256
Replace the path with the actual location. Compare the result with a hash supplied by the application’s developer, if one is available. A hash is useful for identifying an exact file, but it does not by itself prove that a suspicious bundle is trustworthy.
A 64-bit application must load a compatible 64-bit DLL. Do not replace this file with prxdrvpe.dll, a copy from a different product, or a file from a different Proxifier generation.
Fix 4: Repair broader Windows component corruption
SFC and DISM are secondary fixes here because prxdrvpe64.dll is normally an application file, not a protected Windows component. They will not normally recreate a missing Proxifier DLL, but they are appropriate when Windows has several corruption symptoms or application repair fails alongside system errors.

First open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin):
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Proxifier again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and retest. If both commands complete without finding a problem, return to repairing the parent application.
Repeatedly hunting through Windows components and rerunning SFC/DISM can be tedious when the real issue is an application folder. Fix 5: Update or reinstall the parent application
If the error began after an update, partial uninstall, disk cleanup, or interrupted extraction, install a clean matching copy.

- Identify the executable shown in the error or shortcut.
- Open Settings and go to Apps.
- Uninstall the affected application.
- Restart Windows.
- Delete only the remaining application folder if you have backed up profiles and data.
- Download the application from its official developer.
- Install the same architecture and release family.
- Launch it once before restoring custom settings.
- Test the network feature that previously failed.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET at random. Those runtimes can fix separately reported dependency errors, but there is no verified universal runtime issue that removes prxdrvpe64.dll.
Fix 6: Update network drivers only when other symptoms point there
A network-driver update is not the normal repair for a missing application DLL. Consider it only if Windows also shows adapter failures, disconnects, Device Manager warnings, or a recent driver change.
- Press
Windows+X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the affected adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If that does not help, choose Uninstall device, restart Windows, and install the driver from the computer or adapter manufacturer.
Do not remove virtual adapters created by VPN or proxy software unless you are intentionally uninstalling that software. A driver update will not recreate prxdrvpe64.dll.

What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of the application. Even a clean copy may fail because the actual problem is a missing dependency or damaged parent installation.
Use the official Proxifier archive or the original developer’s installer instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Windows commonly searches an unpackaged application’s own folder before system locations. Copying an application DLL into System32 or SysWOW64 can create version conflicts and make it unclear which program owns the file.

Do not use regsvr32 as a repair command
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that prxdrvpe64.dll should be registered this way. Running:

Do not mix Proxifier versions
Do not combine a v3 engine with v4 program files, or copy a DLL from a different bundled application. Restore the complete matching package.
If the error remains
If reinstalling fails:
- Record the exact executable named in the error.
- Confirm whether the DLL exists beside that executable.
- Check Windows Security Protection history again.
- Inspect Event Viewer by right-clicking Start, selecting Event Viewer, and checking Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an application error at the same time the program failed.
- Test with a clean official installation in a new folder.
- Scan the system if the parent application is unknown or behaves like a network interceptor.
- Consider System Restore only if the problem began after a known recent change and reinstalling is unavailable.
System Restore can reverse recent updates and configuration changes, but it does not make an untrusted DLL safe. Use it as a recovery option, not as a substitute for identifying the parent application.
