Check the display input, cable, intermediary devices and video settings first. If the image still fails on a known-good screen and cable—or the port is visibly damaged—arrange a professional diagnosis; the HDMI port is soldered to the motherboard.
Check the TV, HDMI input and cable first
Work through these checks before concluding that the console needs repair. Sony’s PlayStation 5 Support provides troubleshooting and Safe Mode guidance.
- Confirm the selected input. Make sure the TV or monitor is on and set to the HDMI input that the PS5 is connected to. Reseat the cable at both ends.
- Connect the PS5 directly to the screen. Temporarily remove a soundbar, AV receiver, capture device, HDMI switch or other intermediary from the connection.
- Try another HDMI cable. Sony recommends the cable supplied with the console for full performance, but older HDMI cable types can also be used. A different compatible cable is a useful diagnostic check; it cannot fix a physically damaged console port.
- Try another screen input. If the display has more than one HDMI port, move the cable to a different input and select it on the display.
- Separate a screen fault from a console fault. Connect another device to the same display input, or test the PS5 on another TV or monitor if available. If another device also fails on one input, the display or input may be the problem.
- Restart both devices and check display firmware. Turn off the PS5 and screen, disconnect their power cables for 20 minutes, reconnect them and test again. Check the display maker’s instructions for firmware updates.
These checks help narrow down the cause, but no-signal behavior by itself cannot identify which component has failed. iFixit also lists cable, display and connection checks in its PlayStation 5 Black Screen troubleshooting guide.
Try Safe Mode if the display or video settings may be incompatible
If the screen works with another device but the PS5 picture remains blank, the console’s video output settings may not suit the display. Safe Mode includes options to change video output.

- Turn the PS5 completely off.
- Press and hold the console’s power button. Release it after the second beep, which sounds about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller to the console with a USB cable, then press the PS button.
- Choose Change Video Output, then try Change Resolution or Change HDCP Mode, as appropriate.
If the picture does not return, continue to hardware diagnosis rather than repeatedly changing settings without evidence that they are the cause.
Signs that may point to physical HDMI port damage
Inspect the port visually with the console powered off and the cable disconnected. Bent or missing-looking pins, corrosion, or a connector that appears damaged are reasons to stop using the port and seek an assessment. Do not force the plug, repeatedly wiggle it, or try to straighten pins yourself: that can worsen damage, and a display fault may still have another cause.

A visible defect makes port damage more plausible, but it does not establish that the port is the only fault. If the console still shows no picture across a known-good cable and display after the checks above, the problem may be elsewhere in the console and may need board-level diagnosis.
What an HDMI port replacement involves
A PS5 HDMI connector is soldered to the motherboard. Replacing it is a board-level repair that requires appropriate soldering skills and equipment; it is not a plug-in part or a routine beginner repair. A replacement part listing describes the connector and gives compatibility examples, but those examples do not establish fit for every PS5 revision.

For example, the iFixit PS5 HDMI port listing names CFI-10xx, CFI-11xx and CFI-12xx compatibility examples. Check the exact CFI model printed on your console against the current listing before ordering any part. Do not assume that a listed example applies to another revision, including a PS5 Pro.

Warranty details depend on region and the individual console. Sony’s PS5 Pro Safety Guide (CFI-7019) describes a one-year limited hardware warranty for the US and Canada and lists exclusions. That document does not establish coverage for every model, region or repair; check the terms that apply to your console before opening it or choosing a third-party service.
