Yes—a public PS5 jailbreak called Relapse has been reported, but only for consoles running firmware 7.00 through 13.60. Tom’s Hardware reported that range on September 30, 2026, and PSN.GG reported it on September 29; both say firmware 14.00 is outside the supported range. These are outlet-reported compatibility claims, not independent test results, and your console’s installed firmware—not just whether it is a PS5 or PS5 Pro—determines whether the reports apply.
What Relapse reportedly supports
According to Tom’s Hardware’s September 30, 2026 report and PSN.GG’s September 29, 2026 report, Relapse is a public jailbreak for PS5 and PS5 Pro systems on firmware 7.00 through 13.60. Those reports place firmware 14.00 outside the supported range. The sources do not establish a success rate, the number of compatible consoles, or an independently verified performance comparison.
Check the installed system software version before drawing any conclusion about your console. A model name or purchase date cannot establish firmware compatibility: a PS5 or PS5 Pro running software outside the reported range is not covered by the claim.
The choice between the reported range and newer software
Staying within a reported exploit range can conflict with installing newer system software. Tom’s Hardware notes that game releases and updates can require newer software, so keeping a console on older firmware may limit access to some current games or updates. Updating, in turn, may move the console beyond Relapse’s reported 7.00–13.60 range. The sources do not establish that a later update can be reversed to restore compatibility.

Reboot, account, and console risks
PSN.GG reports that the jailbreak is lost when the console reboots and warns of account and hardware bans. Those are PSN.GG’s reported risks, not an official Sony confirmation of specific enforcement outcomes. Anyone weighing the reported release should treat online-account access and continued console use as potential costs, rather than assuming the modification is persistent or risk-free.
Sony’s update guidance and US software terms
Sony’s official PS5 system software support page recommends installing the latest update promptly and warns that altered consoles or unofficial update sources may affect proper operation, warranty coverage, or repair service. Sony states: “SIE strongly recommends always installing the latest update as soon as possible after the update is released.”

Sony’s US PS5 software license agreement prohibits using tools to bypass or circumvent PS5 encryption, security, or authentication mechanisms and restricts unauthorized modified hardware or software. The agreement says its restrictions apply to the greatest extent permitted by law in the user’s jurisdiction. That is a description of Sony’s US license terms, not a universal conclusion about the law in every country.

The FULU Foundation’s PS5 bounty page lists criteria for a hypervisor bypass that boots an alternate operating system, including firmware 13.42 or newer. That solicitation describes what would qualify for its bounty; it does not prove that a qualifying solution exists or verify Relapse’s capabilities. The page showed a total pot of $37,875 when accessed on October 8, 2026, but the amount can change and says nothing about adoption, success rates, or how many consoles are compatible. FULU’s page also says claimants must be based in the United States and excludes a method involving a hypervisor exploit disclosed to Sony before becoming public; those are FULU program terms, not Sony policy.
