Start with Sony’s purchase route and local retailers, then check the seller, condition and full checkout cost before placing an order.
Where to check for PS5 Pro stock
Sony’s U.S. PS5 buying page links to PlayStation Direct where available. Sony also points buyers to local retailers in its June 2026 GTA VI announcement. Check those routes first, then recheck established retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target and GameStop. Inventory can change quickly, so confirm availability on the retailer’s own product page rather than relying on an older stock report.

The latest located retailer check, by Tom’s Guide at 12:05 p.m. ET on October 9, 2026, found no stock at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, GameStop or PlayStation Direct. The report said a PlayStation Direct restock on October 6 sold out quickly. These observations do not establish stock on October 13, a future restock schedule or a market-wide availability rate.
What counts as a fair price?
Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for PS5 Pro is $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. Sony announced the increase on March 27, citing “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The $699.99 U.S. price announced at the console’s September 2024 launch is historical, not the current recommended price. A listing above $899.99 is not automatically a comparable offer: it may be a third-party sale, an open-box unit or a pre-owned console, and shipping or other charges can change the total. Tom’s Guide reported a Walmart open-box listing at $1,399 and examples of third-party or pre-owned offers above the recommended price at Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop on October 9. Those were dated listings, not a universal resale price or guaranteed current offers.
- Check who sells and ships it. A marketplace page may feature a third-party seller rather than the retailer itself.
- Confirm condition. Read whether the console is new, open-box, refurbished or pre-owned; do not treat those conditions as interchangeable.
- Compare the total. Include delivery and any other checkout charges, not just the displayed item price.
- Read delivery and return terms. Check the expected arrival date and the retailer’s return policy before paying.
Does GTA 6 make PS5 Pro a better buy?
The U.S. PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5, marks it “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” and gives November 19, 2026 as its release date. The label indicates a Pro enhancement, but the cited official pages do not provide GTA VI-specific comparative resolution, frame-rate, graphics-mode or measured performance figures. It is not possible to quantify the Pro’s advantage for this game from those listings alone. Check the U.S. PlayStation Store listing for current release and edition details; storefront prices and preorder information can change.
Sony’s June 24 article says the game will use PS5 features including DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and the console SSD. Sony’s statement describes the company’s position, not an independent performance test. The store lists the game as a single-player experience. Sony’s marketing phrase “play best on PS5” does not specify how the Pro version will compare with the standard PS5.

If your only goal is to play GTA VI, the standard PS5 is also listed as a supported platform. The official pages establish that PS5 Pro is enhanced, but they do not establish whether the unspecified improvements justify the price difference for your priorities. Decide based on your budget and whether you value the Pro’s broader hardware features, rather than buying on an unquantified promise of a particular GTA VI frame rate or resolution.

Sony describes PS5 Pro as a 2TB console; its PS5 Pro product page notes that enhanced features apply only to select games and vary by title. Sony’s 2024 launch announcement says a DualSense controller is included and the console is sold without an optical disc drive. An Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for PS5 is a separate purchase; Sony says it is compatible with PS5 Pro and requires internet access to pair during setup. Consider it if you want to play disc games or watch Blu-ray/DVD media. The cited information does not confirm whether GTA VI will have a physical edition, so there is no basis here to say the game requires that accessory.
GTA 6 date and listed editions
At the time the U.S. PlayStation Store listing was accessed on October 13, 2026, it showed a November 19, 2026 release date, a $79.99 Standard Edition and a $99.99 Ultimate Edition. Those are storefront details that may change; verify the listing before ordering. The game’s listed prices do not alter Sony’s $899.99 recommended price for the console.
