If the reported specifications are accurate, it could be substantially faster than the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X on paper. But Sony has not officially announced the device, and neither its specifications nor the performance claims have been independently verified.
What the PS6 handheld leak actually claims
The reported specifications come primarily from a Moore’s Law Is Dead leak summarized by Digital Trends. Another summary is available through Ground News.

Is this a Switch-style hybrid?
Not necessarily. The reported difference between a roughly 1.20GHz portable GPU clock and a roughly 1.65GHz docked clock suggests a dockable handheld with different power profiles. A dock connected to wall power could allow higher sustained power consumption than battery operation.
However, the leak does not establish whether the dock would contain additional processing hardware, whether it would be included in the box, or whether it would improve resolution, frame rate, or both. It also does not show whether the portable mode could sustain its claimed clock without thermal throttling.
The safest description is therefore a rumored dockable PlayStation handheld with separate portable and docked power modes. Calling it a Switch clone or assuming that its dock would make it equivalent to a PS5 goes beyond the evidence.
How it supposedly beats the ROG Xbox Ally X
The leak’s performance interpretation reportedly points to nearly 50% more rasterization performance, better ray tracing and approximately 60% more memory bandwidth than the ROG Xbox Ally X. Those numbers are estimates attached to unverified specifications, not results from independent testing.
They should not be translated directly into frame-rate gains. Real performance depends on architecture, power limits, cooling, drivers, resolution, upscaling, memory allocation, operating-system overhead and game optimization. A device with more theoretical GPU throughput can still perform differently from game to game.
The alleged 16 RDNA 5 compute units are especially difficult to evaluate in isolation. Compute-unit counts from different architectures do not provide a complete performance comparison, and the leak does not independently establish the design’s ray-tracing or AI-upscaling capabilities.

The memory claim could be the most important detail
The rumored 192-bit LPDDR5X-8533 interface would be unusually consequential for a handheld because the CPU and GPU would likely share system memory.
A rough theoretical calculation is:
192 bits ÷ 8 × 8,533 MT/s ≈ 204.8 GB/s
That is peak theoretical bandwidth, not the amount games would necessarily receive. Usable performance would depend on memory-controller efficiency, latency, cache behavior, compression, system reservations, power limits and the workload of a particular game.
For comparison, ASUS lists the ROG Xbox Ally X with 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, but the official specifications do not provide a directly comparable bandwidth figure in the supplied material. The leak’s claim of roughly 60% more bandwidth should therefore remain attributed to the leak rather than presented as a verified measurement.
Why “up to 48GB” does not mean 48GB for games
The phrase “supports up to 48GB” leaves several important questions unanswered. It may describe a maximum platform capability rather than the memory capacity of the base retail model. Sony could also offer different memory configurations, or reduce the capacity to control cost, power consumption and product positioning.
Even if a model shipped with 48GB, games would not necessarily have access to all of it. A console reserves memory for the operating system, background services, audio, graphics features and other system functions. More memory can help with larger assets and future software, but it does not automatically improve every game’s frame rate.

Raw performance is not the whole comparison
The rumored Sony device and the Ally X would be different kinds of products even if their graphics performance overlapped.
- PlayStation handheld: potentially a fixed, closed console platform with tighter hardware targeting and a simpler user experience.
- ROG Xbox Ally X: a Windows handheld PC that can access PC storefronts and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, Game Pass, cloud gaming and remote play.
A fixed platform can make optimization easier, but a Windows handheld offers broader software access and more flexibility. The Ally X’s 1080p/120Hz display does not mean modern AAA games will run at 120 frames per second, just as a rumored docked clock does not prove console-level output on the Sony device.
Xbox and ASUS officially announced the ROG Xbox Ally family in 2025. The official Xbox page also lists three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium with the Ally X, subject to eligibility and regional terms. Cloud gaming libraries, plans and remote-play features vary by region, device and account status.

The leak reportedly claims PS4 and PS5 backwards compatibility. If delivered broadly, that would be one of the device’s most important advantages. It would distinguish the rumored product from the existing PlayStation Portal, which is primarily a remote-play and streaming accessory rather than a native PS5 handheld. Sony’s official Portal page describes that different role.
But “PS5 compatibility” does not necessarily mean every PS5 game would run locally, natively and without qualification. Compatibility could involve emulation, a dedicated compatibility layer, patches or selectively supported titles. Portable and docked modes could also have different resolution and frame-rate targets.
Digital ownership, entitlement checks, patches and regional availability could affect how useful the library is in practice. Physical-disc support should not be assumed for a portable device unless Sony specifies it.

Why the 2027 date and $400–$500 price are fragile
The reported timeline suggests manufacturing could begin in mid-2027, followed by a possible fall 2027 launch. That is a reported target, not an announced release date. Manufacturing schedules can change because of AMD’s design timeline, production capacity, memory availability, testing or software readiness.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11The rumored $400–$500 price is even harder to assess. The final price could depend on semiconductor and memory costs, exchange rates, tariffs, regional taxes, storage capacity, whether the dock is included and whether Sony subsidizes the hardware to sell software and services. The comparison with the Ally X is also not perfectly like-for-like: the reported Sony price may describe a different storage or memory configuration, while the $999.99 figure is an observed ASUS U.S. store listing that can change.
What could make the leak’s performance claim fail?
- Clock assumptions: Higher advertised clocks do not guarantee proportional performance.
- Thermal limits: A compact handheld may throttle under sustained loads.
- Power profiles: Battery life, heat and fan noise can force lower portable performance.
- Shared memory: System software and CPU workloads compete with the GPU for bandwidth and capacity.
- Architecture uncertainty: RDNA 5 branding alone does not reveal total throughput or ray-tracing performance.
- SKU confusion: “Up to 48GB” may describe a maximum configuration rather than the retail model.
- Dock ambiguity: The dock may supply power only, or it may enable a substantially different profile.
- Software support: Hardware capable of running a title does not guarantee a polished or supported portable version.
- Price pressure: Memory, manufacturing and regional costs could move the final price far beyond the rumor.
- Pre-release changes: Internal specifications can be revised before mass production.
Should you buy an Xbox Ally X or wait?
Buy the Ally X now if you need a handheld immediately
The ROG Xbox Ally X is the practical choice for buyers who want a currently available high-end handheld PC and value Windows software, multiple PC storefronts, Xbox Play Anywhere, Game Pass, cloud gaming, remote play, expandable storage and its large 80Wh battery. Its trade-offs include a high listed price, Windows complexity and performance that varies with game settings, drivers, power mode and upscaling.
It is not a substitute for guaranteed native PlayStation exclusives, nor does Xbox branding turn every game into a native console build. Some experiences use Windows versions, cloud streaming or remote play.
Wait only if the rumored PlayStation experience is specifically what you want
Waiting may be reasonable if you want a console-like PlayStation interface, possible local PS4/PS5 support, a docked TV mode and the possibility of stronger graphics performance at a lower price. But you would be waiting for an unconfirmed product whose name, hardware, price, compatibility and launch timing could all change—or whose release could be delayed or canceled.
Do not buy unofficial reservations or “leaked” hardware listings. There is no confirmed Sony product to preorder based on this report.
Verdict
The alleged Canis handheld could theoretically outperform the current ROG Xbox Ally X, particularly if its reported RDNA 5 design, higher memory bandwidth and docked power profile are accurate. That is enough to make the rumor interesting—but not enough to say it puts the Ally X “to shame.”
The Ally X is a real, officially specified product available now. The PS6 handheld remains an unconfirmed leak. Treat the report as a possible indication of Sony’s future direction, not as a buying recommendation or a guaranteed 2027 product.
