Reach the Fissure Depths Site of Grace, prepare there, then jump from the ledge ahead into the arena. Holy damage and Frostbite are guide-supported options; for the fight itself, prioritize dodging the knight’s fast charges and take brief openings instead of chasing it.
Where to find the Putrescent Knight
- Travel south through the Cerulean Coast to the enormous fissure and enter Stone Coffin Fissure.
- Descend through the dungeon, passing the The Fissure and Fissure Cross checkpoints, until you reach the Fissure Depths Site of Grace.
- Rest and prepare, then jump from the ledge ahead into the large drop. This fall leads directly into the boss arena; there is no ordinary fog-wall entrance.
If Stone Coffin Fissure’s entrance is sealed, continue the DLC story until Miquella’s Great Rune breaks, then return to the fissure.
What is the Putrescent Knight weak to?
- Holy damage: Guides identify Holy as an effective damage type. A Holy weapon, Sacred affinity, or a compatible spell or buff can suit a build that already uses those tools.
- Frostbite: A walkthrough recommends Frostbite for its burst damage and the increased follow-up damage after the status effect triggers.
- Strike damage: Game8 reports that strike weapons ranked highest in its damage tests. That is a finding from Game8’s testing, not a guarantee for every weapon, build, or game patch.
These are options, not requirements. When choosing what to bring, favor attacks you can land safely during short openings; a theoretically strong hit is less useful if its long animation leaves you exposed to a charge.
Prepare with DLC blessings
FromSoftware says Scadutree Blessing boosts the player’s attack and damage negation in DLC areas. Revered Spirit Ash Blessing boosts summoned spirits and Torrent. Both effects persist in DLC areas. If the fight is punishing, explore for Scadutree Fragments or Revered Spirit Ashes and use them to strengthen the relevant blessing.

How to beat the Putrescent Knight
The knight and its horse can move and attack separately, so watch both rather than focusing only on the rider. The fight includes fast mounted charges, sweeping cleaver attacks, a dismount sequence, and later ghostflame attacks. The safest general rhythm is to evade, wait for an attack to finish, punish briefly, and reset your spacing.
Keep the mount in view and dodge the attack, not the pursuit
Try to keep the knight and horse on screen. Avoid panic-rolling backward through a sequence of follow-up swings; when the weapon is sweeping toward you, dodging through its path can be safer than retreating into the next hit. Do not spend the fight running after the boss or commit to a long stationary cast while it is closing distance.

Use short punish windows
Wait until a charge, slam, or longer combo has ended before attacking. Take one or two safe hits, then return to a position where you can read the next approach. If your weapon or spell keeps you locked in place for too long, use a quicker option or wait for a more generous opening.
Respect the ghostflame attacks
Later in the encounter, watch for the ghostflame patterns and prioritize evasion over trading damage. Their precise triggers and frame-perfect responses are not established here, so respond to the attack you see rather than relying on a fixed timing script.
