How to search without relying on a fixed spawn
Use the landmarks as route guides and sweep the surrounding terrain. A recent Gamepur guide suggests riding routes around places including Owanjila, Strawberry, Annesburg, Brandywine Drop, Tumbleweed and Armadillo, but it does not establish a guaranteed spawn or repeat interval. Cougar timing and exact spawn behavior are not established by the cited guides.

How to get a perfect cougar pelt
- Choose the right weapon. Gamepur and RDR2.org recommend a rifle or a bow with poison arrows for a perfect pelt. Gamepur · RDR2.org
- Check the cougar’s quality before taking the shot. The cited guides recommend suitable weapons, but do not promise that a particular route or kill will yield a perfect pelt.
- Be ready for an attack. Cougars are dangerous and fast; keep your weapon ready while searching, rather than approaching casually. RDR2.org’s challenge guide
- Use poison arrows only if you accept the trade-off. RDR2.org cautions that a poisoned kill prevents recovery of the meat. RDR2.org
Master Hunter Challenge 6: five cougars with a bow
Challenge 6 requires you to kill and skin five cougars with a bow. A rifle will not satisfy the bow requirement, even though it is one of the guides’ recommended choices for ordinary pelt hunting. RDR2.org suggests the plains south of Benedict Point as a hunting area and also names land directly south of Tumbleweed. Those are suggested routes, not guaranteed spawn locations. For this challenge, use the bow for every required kill and skin each cougar. Poison arrows are one suggested way to take them down, but the same meat-loss trade-off applies to poisoned kills. Southern New Austin access is noted as requiring completion of Chapter 6 by the cited challenge guide, so use an available cougar region if you have not reached that point.

What cougars give you—and the Legendary Cougar
Ordinary cougar loot can include a pelt or fur, fang, big game meat and carcass. Gamepur says a perfect pelt can be used to craft the Legend of the East Satchel. Gamepur
