A strong Ratatan run starts with a clear battlefield plan: choose a leader whose starting Cobun pair solves your biggest problem, build a formation with a protected front line and complementary reach, issue rhythm commands accurately, and take Ratakaruta that improve the plan you are already using. Ratatan combines side-scrolling action, squad positioning and pulse-based commands, so survival depends as much on timing and spacing as on damage.
Start with a job, not a tier list
There is no permanently best Ratatan or universally dominant class to select. Ratatan is listed in Early Access, and the independent class reference warns that balance can change. Instead of asking which leader is strongest in every run, ask which problem is most likely to end this run: an exposed squad, too little healing or mitigation, weak ranged pressure, uncontrolled crowds, or insufficient direct damage.

Your leader choice matters immediately because each leader begins with a particular pair of Cobuns. That opening pair determines your first formation, the range you can cover, and which threats you can answer before rewards add new options. Pick the job you need, then make later recruitment and Ratakaruta choices reinforce it.

Before confirming a leader, inspect the starting pair as a unit. A leader with a powerful individual attack may still open poorly if both starting Cobuns occupy the same range or fail to protect one another. Conversely, a modest-looking pair can be valuable if one member holds enemies while the other attacks safely.

Build the Cobun line from front to back
Give the front line a job
Soldier, Assault and Mauler are identified as front-line options in the class guide. Treat that classification as a planning tool rather than a damage ranking. A front-line Cobun should intercept pressure, maintain a stable position, or create enough time for the rest of the squad to work. If every member needs to stand at the same distance to contribute, a single enemy push can expose the whole group.
Place durable melee options where they can meet enemies first, but do not send them so far ahead that the rest of the squad cannot support them. A front line that is technically tough but permanently isolated still consumes healing and MP inefficiently.
Add reach or a different attack shape
Pike, Ranger, Bombardier and Ninja provide different reach or attack shapes according to the class reference. The useful distinction is not simply “melee versus ranged”; it is how each option covers space. A long-reaching attack can punish enemies approaching your front line. A broad or unusual attack shape can make a crowded lane manageable. A mobile attacker may be useful when enemies do not stay in one place.

A second attacker with the same range and timing can add damage, but it does not solve the problem of enemies appearing behind, above or beyond your existing attack pattern.
Use Magical as a support anchor
The class guide describes Magical as a support that can provide damage reduction and damage boosts. Keep support Cobuns in a position where they can contribute without being the first target. Their value is highest when a mitigation effect covers a dangerous exchange or a damage boost coincides with a controlled attack window, not when the effect is spent automatically on every minor encounter.

Check for redundancy
A coherent squad normally has a durable front, at least one way to pressure enemies outside that front, and an answer to a specific failure mode such as crowding, attrition or a boss attack. Redundancy is useful when it protects against a known weakness—for example, two ways to survive a telegraphed hit—but less useful when it merely duplicates an attack that already works.
Account for co-op positions
The official store listing describes online co-op for up to four players. In multiplayer, decide who is responsible for holding the front, who watches the rear or upper lanes, and who saves MP for a boss window. A formation that works with one player issuing every order may become unreliable when players move in different directions. Use the same regrouping call and agree on which Hustle Tech is reserved for emergencies.
Issue commands reliably
Ratatan’s commands combine a rhythm sequence with side-scrolling action. The independent beginner guide recommends taking a phrase to find the pulse before committing to a command. Accuracy affects more than animation quality: the guide says a full command made with JUST inputs improves the command, doubles MP gained, and lowers Hustle Tech MP costs. It describes GOOD as completing the command, while JUST execution provides the stronger result.
- Listen for the phrase. Do not press immediately because an enemy is visible. Identify the rhythm so the first input begins on the correct pulse.
- Match the sequence. Treat each input as part of one phrase rather than a series of unrelated taps. Watching the squad while the sequence is running can make you late, so use the visual battlefield to decide when to start, then focus on timing.
- Separate GOOD from JUST. A completed command can still be useful, but strive for JUST when you need extra MP, a lower-cost Hustle Tech or a stronger command result.
- Choose the command’s purpose first. Decide whether it is for clearing a group, protecting the line, moving through a hazard or preparing a damage window. Do not spend a high-value command merely because it is available.
- Watch the aftermath. Check where the Cobuns ended up. A successful attack that stretches the formation may require Fall In before the next order.
Timing improves your resource economy. Missing a JUST sequence does not make the run unwinnable, but repeated weak commands leave less MP for the moments that actually decide a room. If the phrase is difficult during a boss animation, prioritize a safe GOOD command or wait rather than forcing an input and losing control of the squad.
Keep the squad together when danger is telegraphed
Use Fall In after the line stretches
The beginner guide specifically recommends Fall In when the squad has become spread out and before a telegraphed attack. Treat it as a positioning tool, not a panic button. If a fast attacker has moved ahead, a support Cobun is lagging, or an enemy has forced the line apart, regroup before issuing a complicated offensive order.

Fall In is also valuable immediately before a large attack. A compact group is easier to protect, easier to cover with a support effect, and less likely to leave one Cobun outside the command’s useful area. Regroup early enough that the command finishes before the attack lands.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Read attack tells before spending MP
Bosses and dangerous enemies create windows rather than constant opportunities. Wait through a telegraphed attack when necessary, then spend MP during the recovery or vulnerability window. Using a Hustle Tech while the target cannot be damaged, or while your squad is still scattered, trades a limited resource for little benefit.
Retreat is a positioning decision
The player controls the Ratatan’s position as well as commands. Back away when an enemy’s threat zone is about to overlap the formation, then return when the attack has passed. Retreating is not abandoning the run; it creates time for the rhythm phrase, keeps support Cobuns alive and prevents the front line from being dragged into an unrecoverable position.
Protect Fever instead of forcing it
The beginner guide says successful commands sustain Fever and warns against queueing an unnecessary command during a dangerous animation. If an enemy is about to strike, reposition, defend or wait for a clean phrase instead of forcing a risky order solely to maintain momentum. Fever is valuable only when the command can be completed safely.
Spend Hustle Techs to answer a defined threat
Hustle Techs should solve a problem you can name. Appropriate reasons include stopping a group before it reaches the support line, creating a boss damage window, rescuing a trapped front-line Cobun, or applying mitigation before a known heavy hit. An undefined “use it whenever available” rule wastes MP and can leave you empty when the next room demands an answer.

- Against a crowd: wait until enemies occupy a useful area, then use the attack that covers the greatest immediate danger rather than clipping one target at the edge.
- Against a boss: hold MP through harmless phases and cast during recovery or vulnerability.
- During attrition: spend mitigation or recovery before the squad is already in critical condition, but do not consume it for damage that ordinary positioning would avoid.
- After a weak rhythm sequence: remember that missed JUST inputs reduce the MP advantage described by the beginner guide, so reassess whether the Tech is still affordable.
In co-op, announce the purpose before activating a major Tech. Two players spending overlapping effects can leave the group without a response to the following attack.
Choose Ratakaruta that reinforce the current run
Ratakaruta are passive run cards, so every offer should be judged against the formation you actually have, not an imagined late-game build. The beginner guide’s order is to strengthen the damage or defense your squad already uses, check whether the card advances a desired Elemental Force, and then decide whether a rarity improvement is better than adding a disconnected effect.
- Identify the run’s plan. Is the squad winning through a protected front line, ranged pressure, crowd control, mitigation or direct aggression?
- Prefer reinforcement. Choose a card that makes that plan safer or more consistent. A defensive effect is especially valuable when the current weakness is survival rather than damage.
- Check the element. If the card advances an Elemental Force you are pursuing, that progress can matter even when the immediate effect is less dramatic.
- Compare rarity with compatibility. A rare card that does nothing for your formation is not automatically better than a lower-rarity card that supports it.
- Confirm the replacement rule. The beginner guide says a higher-rarity copy with the same name replaces the lower-rarity effect, while both copies still contribute to elemental level. Do not assume you lose all elemental progress when the active effect is upgraded.
For example, if your front line is surviving but ranged attackers are repeatedly exposed, prioritize a card that improves protection or the reach-based plan before taking an unrelated damage effect. If the line already handles ordinary enemies and bosses are the problem, a card that improves the existing boss-window strategy may be more useful than a general bonus with no connection to your timing.
Do not take every rare offer. Rarity is one part of the decision; the card must still fit your leader, Cobun jobs, element and likely threats.

Review the cause of a failed run at Rataport
The beginner guide recommends using the return to Rataport to review new equipment, unlocks and class options, then changing the pieces that address the cause of failure. Make the review specific instead of replacing the whole build at random.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Died while enemies reached the back: add or reposition a durable front-line option, improve regrouping discipline, or choose protection before more damage.
- Could not finish crowds: look for a different attack shape, crowd-control answer or a Hustle Tech reserved for the approach.
- Ran out of MP: practice the phrase, seek more JUST inputs and stop spending Techs without a defined purpose.
- Lost to a boss animation: hold MP for the recovery window, Fall In before the tell resolves and avoid forcing a command during the dangerous sequence.
- Had a strong effect but poor coverage: replace redundant cards or classes with one that reaches the threat your formation could not answer.
Carry one lesson into the next attempt. A run restart is useful when it changes a decision, not when it simply repeats the same leader, formation and reward priorities.
What Early Access means for build advice
The official Steam listing labels Ratatan an Early Access game. It describes multiple worlds, characters, weapons, skills, multiplayer, boss battles and progression systems, but those details and class balance can change before full release. The listing also says the full-version price had not been decided in the reviewed store information.
The store page records the Early Access launch as September 18, 2025. The Ratatan Wiki homepage reports an announced full-release date of October 15, 2026. Because that date is adjacent to the current information window, check the live store listing and official announcements for the actual version and release status before relying on older class or reward advice.
That uncertainty is a reason to use role-based planning. A patch can alter numbers without changing the fundamentals: protect the squad’s vulnerable members, match reach to the threats in front of you, execute commands accurately, regroup before telegraphed danger and take rewards that make one coherent plan stronger.
