If Windows reports that rdvgu1132.dll is missing, not found, corrupted, or could not be loaded, repair Windows or the software configuration that requested it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
The file is a 32-bit component. On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit system DLL normally belongs under %windir%SysWOW64; %windir%System32 contains native 64-bit system files despite the directory names. The exact location can vary by Windows build and by whether the file is stored in a driver package.

What rdvgu1132.dll does
rdvgu1132.dll is associated with Microsoft RemoteFX Virtual GPU, a graphics virtualization component used with older Hyper-V and Remote Desktop deployments. It is not identified as a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET assembly, or ordinary application library.
RemoteFX vGPU is obsolete. Microsoft removed it from Windows 10 version 1809 and Windows Server 2019, disabled it through security updates released in 2020, and removed the component from applicable systems through security updates released in 2021 because of architectural security vulnerabilities. Microsoft’s RemoteFX update guidance explains the affected feature and supported alternatives.

That matters because restoring an old DLL may not restore RemoteFX functionality. If a Hyper-V virtual machine or Remote Desktop deployment still expects RemoteFX, the correct fix is usually to remove that obsolete configuration and move to a supported virtualization design.
Error messages you may see
The wording depends on the program, Windows component, or loader operation that triggers the problem. Common variants include:
- “The program can’t start because rdvgu1132.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The file rdvgu1132.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Error loading rdvgu1132.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load rdvgu1132.dll.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because rdvgu1132.dll was not found.”
- “rdvgu1132.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that rdvgu1132.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to locate a dependency required by the DLL. An incompatible 32-bit or 64-bit module, an old driver package, or an obsolete RemoteFX configuration can produce a similar result.
Fix rdvgu1132.dll errors
Work through these fixes in order. Start with Windows Update and system repair unless the error clearly appears only in one application.
1. Install Windows updates and restart
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on pending updates.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- On Windows 11, select Check for updates. On Windows 10, select Check for updates in the Windows Update section.
- Install all available quality, security, and driver updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Reopen the program or virtual machine that produced the error.
If the error began after a Windows update, open Windows Update > Update history and note the recent change. Do not remove security updates merely to restore RemoteFX. If the message remains, continue with system repair.
2. Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes.
Microsoft recommends running Deployment Image Servicing and Management before System File Checker. DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected system files against that repaired source.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program or virtual machine again.
If SFC says it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and test. If it says it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once.

If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, use a matching Windows installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the actual Windows source location. The source must match the installed Windows edition and closely match its build. An arbitrary source can introduce more mismatched files.
Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of repeatedly hunting through repair steps: its free scan shows what it finds, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and DISM plus SFC remain the built-in repair path.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3. Check whether Hyper-V still uses RemoteFX
Time needed: 10–20 minutes.
Use this fix when the error appears while starting a Hyper-V virtual machine, connecting to an older Remote Desktop deployment, or launching a workload known to use a RemoteFX 3D Video Adapter.
- Shut down the affected virtual machine.
- Open Hyper-V Manager.
- Right-click the virtual machine and select Settings.
- Expand Hardware.
- Look for a RemoteFX 3D Video Adapter or another RemoteFX-related display device.
- Remove the obsolete RemoteFX adapter if present.
- Apply the change and start the virtual machine.
Do not copy rdvgu1132.dll into the virtual machine and do not disable security updates to bring RemoteFX back. Microsoft recommends moving to a supported GPU virtualization design, such as Discrete Device Assignment where supported. The appropriate replacement depends on the Windows edition, Hyper-V host, hardware, and workload.
If the error occurs only during an RDP connection, check the host’s virtual machine and Remote Desktop configuration rather than changing random DLL folders. Removing RemoteFX does not mean that all Remote Desktop features were removed.
4. Repair the affected graphics or virtualization driver
Time needed: 15–30 minutes.
Use this step when the problem started after a graphics driver update, a hardware change, or a failed Windows installation.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Press Windows + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Expand System devices as well, because virtualization-related hardware may be listed there.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and check the provider, date, and version.
- If the failure began immediately after an update, select Roll Back Driver if available.
- Otherwise, right-click the affected device and select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstall. Only select an option to remove the driver package if you have the supported replacement ready.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current driver package from the computer, graphics-card, or virtualization-hardware manufacturer.
- Restart again and test the workload.
Do not guess a Driver Store folder name. Those paths vary between Windows builds and driver packages.
Outbyte Driver Updater can save time when identifying which of many installed drivers is stale: its free scan shows the detected issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional; for a Hyper-V design problem, updating a driver will not replace the need to remove obsolete RemoteFX.
5. Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 10–20 minutes, plus the time required for a full scan.

If the file disappeared immediately after an antivirus alert, inspect the security product’s quarantine or protection history.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
rdvgu1132.dll. - Record the reported path and reason.
- Do not restore the file solely because its name looks familiar.
- Verify that the path is a normal Windows or trusted driver-package location.
- Update Windows Security and run a Full scan.
Restore a quarantined file only when its location and Microsoft signature can be verified. If it is a protected Windows component, DISM and SFC are safer than restoring an arbitrary copy. A file with this name in a temporary folder, user-writable directory, or unrelated application folder deserves further malware investigation.
6. Repair the application that shows the message
Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
If the error appears only in one game or application and not during Windows startup, Hyper-V, or RDP, the program may be requesting the file or a dependency incorrectly.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair and test the program.
- If Repair is unavailable or fails, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data.
- For a game launcher, use its built-in Verify or Repair files function.
- If the error persists, uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from the developer’s official installer or storefront.
- Start it once before adding modifications or third-party files.
Reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET is not a file-specific solution for rdvgu1132.dll. Install those runtimes only when the application separately identifies a missing runtime dependency.
7. Use System Restore or Windows recovery
Time needed: 20–60 minutes.
Use System Restore when the problem follows a recent driver, update, or system configuration change and a restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exeand select OK. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and let Windows restart.
If no restore point exists, or if repair tools repeatedly fail, back up important files and consider a Windows recovery option or an in-place repair installation using matching Windows media. An in-place repair can replace damaged Windows components while preserving supported personal data and applications, but review the installer’s choices carefully.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why you should not download rdvgu1132.dll
There is no verified official Microsoft standalone download page for rdvgu1132.dll. Random DLL download sites sites can provide malware, the wrong Windows build, the wrong architecture, or a file with an invalid signature. Copying the file into System32, SysWOW64, a game folder, or an application directory can also change DLL search order and cause Windows to load an unintended private copy.
The safe sources are Windows Update, DISM and SFC, a matching Windows installation source, and the official driver or application installer. Do not use a 64-bit file in place of a 32-bit component. A related filename such as rdvgu1164.dll is not automatically a substitute.

Does regsvr32 fix this file?
Generally, no. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a COM registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. rdvgu1132.dll is identified as a graphics and virtual-GPU runtime component, not a self-registering COM server.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Running this command is therefore unlikely to repair the problem:
regsvr32 rdvgu1132.dll
It may report that the entry point is missing or that the module could not be loaded. Use DISM, SFC, driver repair, or RemoteFX configuration repair instead.
What if the error remains?
Identify exactly where the message appears:
- Windows or several programs: repeat the DISM/SFC result check, inspect update history, and examine recent driver changes.
- One application or game: verify its files, then reinstall it from its official source.
- Hyper-V or RDP only: remove the RemoteFX dependency and redesign the virtual-GPU configuration.
- After antivirus quarantine: verify the file path and signature, update security software, and complete a full scan.
- After driver repair: check whether the process is 32-bit and whether its dependencies match the installed Windows build.
If SFC reports that it repaired files but the error continues, the named DLL may only be a symptom. The remaining cause could be a missing dependency, incompatible architecture, damaged driver package, or obsolete RemoteFX reference.
Causes and the appropriate fix
| Likely cause | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Corrupted or removed Windows component | Windows Update, then DISM and SFC |
| Obsolete RemoteFX configuration | Remove the RemoteFX adapter and use a supported design |
| Damaged graphics or virtualization driver | Uninstall the affected package and install the supported driver |
| Antivirus quarantine | Verify path and signature, then scan and repair Windows |
| Wrong architecture or Windows build | Repair the image or reinstall the matching package |
| One damaged application | Verify, repair, or reinstall that application |
| Wider system or disk corruption | System Restore, recovery, or in-place repair |
FAQ
Is rdvgu1132.dll legitimate?
It can be legitimate when it is a Microsoft-signed Windows component in an expected system or driver-package location. The filename alone does not prove authenticity. Check the path, digital signature, and antivirus history.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Is rdvgu1132.dll a 32-bit or 64-bit file?
The identified component is 32-bit. On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit system components are normally handled through WOW64 and are commonly found under %windir%SysWOW64.
Should I reinstall Visual C++?
Usually not. rdvgu1132.dll is associated with RemoteFX Virtual GPU, not identified as a Visual C++ runtime DLL. Repair Windows or the application that reports the error first.
Can I copy the DLL from another computer?
Do not do this routinely. The other computer may have a different Windows build, architecture, signature, or component configuration. DISM and SFC provide a safer repair route.
Why does “module could not be found” appear when the file exists?
The loader may be unable to find a dependency, or the DLL may be incompatible with the process. Confirm the application architecture and repair the complete Windows or driver package rather than replacing only the named file.
