Reforj is currently playable only as an Xbox Series X|S pre-alpha through the Xbox Insider Program. Multiplayer is live for up to eight people, but cross-play with PC, PlayStation, or any other platform has not been officially confirmed. Steam is currently a wishlist destination rather than a confirmed playable release.
Reforj’s current status
As of 19 October 2026, Reforj remains in active pre-alpha development. The public test is distributed on Xbox Series X|S through the Xbox Insider Program, so access is to a test build rather than a finished retail version. That distinction matters: platform availability, online features, performance, and player limits can change as development continues.

The official Reforj website promotes the Xbox Series X|S test with a “Play Now on Xbox Series X|S” message. It also points visitors to Steam for wishlisting. A wishlist page does not establish that a playable PC build has launched, and the official material currently does not announce a release date for a PC version.
For someone deciding whether to play today, the practical answer is therefore narrow: you need an Xbox Series X|S console and an available Xbox Insider enrollment. There is no confirmed public release for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, or PC in the currently published information.

Is Reforj multiplayer?
Yes. Multiplayer is available in the Xbox pre-alpha. The feature arrived with Title Update 5, whose official Steam Community announcement described multiplayer as enabling Pioneers to collaborate on building and sculpting.
Title Update 7 later expanded the online lobby size. The 4J Studios patch notes published on 22 April 2026 state: “Online games can now support up to 8 players, increased from 4.” That makes eight the current maximum for an online game in the test build.
What eight players means
The published limit is an online-game capacity, not a promise that every session will always have eight available participants. You still need the test build, a working network connection, and other enrolled players. The pre-alpha can also change its networking behavior, matchmaking flow, or capacity in later updates.

How to join the Xbox pre-alpha
Enrollment is handled through Microsoft’s Xbox Insider system on an Xbox Series X|S console. Xbox Wire says spaces may be limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so seeing the program described does not guarantee an open slot.
- Prepare an Xbox Series X|S. The currently playable test is limited to these two Xbox console models. A different Xbox generation is not identified as eligible in the published participation guidance.
- Open or install Xbox Insider Hub. Find the Xbox Insider Hub app on the console. If it is not installed, download it through the console’s normal app-install flow.
- Open the Previews area. In Xbox Insider Hub, go to Previews to see the programs available to your account.
- Select Reforj. Open the Reforj preview listing and read the participation information shown for your account.
- Choose Join. Select Join and complete any registration prompts. Enrollment can depend on available places.
- Wait for installation instructions. Xbox Insider Hub may provide the next steps for registering the console and installing the test client. Follow the instructions displayed there rather than relying on a retail-store listing.
- Install the preview build. After registration is accepted, install Reforj from the location and instructions supplied by the Insider program.
If Reforj does not appear under Previews, the most likely explanations are that enrollment is closed, the account is not eligible for that wave, or the console is not the required model. The official participation notice does not promise continuous availability, so trying again later may be necessary.
Which platforms support Reforj?
The following table separates a confirmed playable build from a wishlist listing or a possible future test. “Not confirmed” does not mean a platform can never receive Reforj; it means no official playable release or date has been announced in the current material.

Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series X|S is the hardware platform tied to the public pre-alpha. Access is not presented as a conventional, finished-store release; it is distributed through Xbox Insider Hub. That means participation can be gated, and the installed software should be treated as an evolving preview.

PC and Steam
Steam currently functions as a place to wishlist Reforj. Wishlisting can notify you if a store page changes, but it is not evidence that the game is available to launch. The official information reviewed for this status does not confirm a playable Windows build, minimum PC specifications, a release date, or parity with the Xbox test.
PlayStation 5
PS5 is mentioned as a possible future test platform in the signup form. No released PS5 client, public test date, purchase option, or access procedure is confirmed. A form option should therefore be read as an indication of platform consideration, not as a promise of availability.
Nintendo Switch
No official Reforj support statement is currently available for Nintendo Switch. Without a confirmed announcement, readers should not assume that the Xbox pre-alpha can run on Switch or that a Switch edition is scheduled.
Is Reforj cross-platform or cross-play?
Cross-play has not been officially confirmed. The current first-party information does not provide a compatibility matrix showing Xbox players joining PC, PlayStation, or another platform, and it does not announce Xbox-to-Steam or Xbox-to-PlayStation parties.

That leaves two separate questions:
- Cross-platform release: whether Reforj will be released on more than one hardware platform. Steam is being used for wishlisting, and PS5 is listed as a possible future test platform, but neither is a confirmed playable release today.
- Cross-play: whether players on different platforms can enter the same online game. No official statement confirms that capability.
Do not infer cross-play from the existence of multiplayer. Multiplayer currently proves that players can collaborate in the Xbox test; it does not establish that an Xbox participant can invite someone playing a future PC or PlayStation version. Until the developers publish explicit support details, plan on playing with people using the same Xbox pre-alpha environment.
Can Xbox and PC play Reforj together?
There is no confirmed answer of “yes.” The Xbox build is playable in pre-alpha, while the Steam page is currently a wishlist destination. Because a playable PC release and a cross-play policy have not been announced, Xbox-and-PC co-op should be treated as unavailable unless a later official update says otherwise.
Can Xbox and PlayStation play together?
No cross-play announcement currently covers Xbox and PlayStation. The PS5 reference concerns possible future testing, not an active PS5 client or a shared online ecosystem. Xbox-to-PlayStation play is therefore unconfirmed.

Pre-alpha is an early development stage, so the eight-player figure and the current access route describe the present test build, not a permanent launch specification. Updates can add, remove, or rebalance systems; alter lobby limits; change how invitations work; and move the game to additional platforms.

Players should also expect uneven availability. Insider previews can fill their participant quota, pause enrollment, or require a fresh installation after an update. A feature that works in one test revision may be temporarily disabled in another while the team changes the underlying systems.
When reporting a problem, include the build or update shown by the client, the Xbox model, whether every participant is in the same preview, and whether the issue affects joining, hosting, or in-game activity. Those details distinguish an enrollment problem from a network or game-build problem.
Practical checks before trying multiplayer
- Confirm that every intended participant has an Xbox Series X|S and access to the Reforj preview.
- Check Xbox Insider Hub under Previews instead of assuming a normal store search will provide the test.
- Verify that all players have installed the same current preview update.
- Keep the session within the stated eight-player online capacity.
- Use the same Xbox test environment when organizing a party; PC and PlayStation compatibility is not confirmed.
- If enrollment is unavailable, check again later because spaces can be limited and first-come, first-served.
What is confirmed—and what is still open
The confirmed facts are deliberately specific: Reforj is in pre-alpha; the public test runs on Xbox Series X|S through Xbox Insider; multiplayer is live; and Title Update 7 raised online capacity from four to eight players. Those details are sufficient to decide whether you can participate now.

Several common buying and planning questions remain open in the official information: a PC release date, PC system requirements, a PS5 test schedule, Nintendo Switch support, final pricing, a launch date, and cross-play rules. None should be treated as announced simply because the project has a Steam wishlist page or a future-platform option in a signup form.
If you need a finished, broadly available release with guaranteed cross-platform parties, the current pre-alpha does not provide that assurance. If you own an Xbox Series X|S and can obtain Insider access, you can currently join cooperative sessions designed for as many as eight players while the game is still being developed.
