If Epic Games shows “Request could not be completed” when you try to sign in, the message does not identify one specific cause. It is a generic authentication or request failure—not confirmed proof that Epic is down, your account is banned, or your password is wrong.
Start by checking Epic’s public status page, then retry the JavaScript-based login page in a normal, updated browser. If the error persists across browsers and devices, use Epic’s account-recovery and support options rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

What the Epic login error means
Epic does not currently document “Request could not be completed” as a unique error code with one official cause or one guaranteed repair. The message can appear when the login request cannot be completed by the browser, authentication service, launcher, or another part of the account-sign-in flow.

1. Check whether Epic is reporting an outage
Open status.epicgames.com and check these components:
- Epic Games Store → Login
- Epic Online Services → Epic Account Services – Authentication
- Epic Online Services → Game Services – Authentication
- The status for the specific game you are trying to use, such as Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, or Rocket League Sideswipe
The status page recorded all of these components as operational on August 7, 2026, with no incident reported that day. That status is useful evidence, but it does not prove that every individual login request will work. If Epic shows an incident or degraded service, wait for the incident to be resolved before making major changes to your account or device.
Also check scheduled maintenance notices. For example, Epic listed Epic Online Services maintenance for August 11, 2026, from 06:00 to 08:00 UTC affecting Sessions, Lobbies, and Notifications. That notice was not listed as a scheduled login outage.

2. Use the current Epic login page correctly
Epic’s current login page is www.epicgames.com/id/login. It is a JavaScript application. If JavaScript is blocked, the page displays “You need to enable JavaScript to run this app,” and the normal login process cannot complete.
- Open the login page in a standard browser window rather than an in-game or restricted embedded browser.
- Make sure JavaScript is enabled for
epicgames.com. - Allow cookies for the login flow, at least temporarily.
- Disable extensions that block scripts, redirects, cookies, or pop-ups for the page.
- Reload the page and sign in again.
Do not follow old advice telling you to disable JavaScript. The current Epic login page requires JavaScript to run.
3. Retry in a clean browser session
A stale sign-in session or damaged site data can prevent a request from completing. Try the following, in order:

- Close all Epic login tabs.
- Open a private or incognito window.
- Visit the login page directly instead of using an old bookmark or a saved redirect.
- Try a second up-to-date browser.
- If the second browser works, clear site data for Epic in the browser that failed, then sign in again.
These are general isolation steps, not an Epic-confirmed universal fix for this exact wording. If the error happens in every browser, continuing to clear cache is unlikely to explain the problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems4. Test whether the problem is device- or network-specific
Try the same account on another device or another trusted internet connection. The result helps narrow the fault:
| Result | What it suggests | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| Works in another browser on the same device | Browser settings, extensions, cookies, or site data | Repair the original browser session |
| Works on another device using the same network | Local browser or launcher issue | Focus on the original device |
| Works on another network | Network filtering, DNS, router, or ISP path may be involved | Check the original network or contact its administrator |
| Fails everywhere | Account, authentication, or an unreported service issue may be involved | Use account recovery or Epic Support |
If you use a VPN, proxy, school network, workplace network, parental-control filter, or aggressive security software, a temporary test on a normal trusted connection can help isolate interference. Do not install unknown “Epic login fix” software or enter your password on third-party pages.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

5. Check the account and sign-in method
Confirm that you are using the Epic account associated with the game or platform. Console and third-party sign-in buttons can lead to a different Epic account than an email-and-password login.
- Try the sign-in method you originally used, such as Epic email, PlayStation Network, Xbox, Nintendo, Google, or another supported provider.
- Check your email for Epic security or account-recovery messages.
- Use Epic’s official account-recovery path if you cannot sign in or suspect that the email address or password has changed.
- Do not unlink a console or third-party account as a first troubleshooting step. Unlinking can affect access and does not have a confirmed connection to this generic error.
Epic’s Terms state that linked services can be viewed from the account’s Linked Accounts page. They also state that deleting one Epic Games Account does not delete other Epic Games Accounts owned by the same user, so an account appearing empty or unfamiliar can sometimes be an account-selection problem rather than proof that the original account was deleted.

6. Treat security warnings seriously
The message by itself does not prove that your account has been compromised. However, contact Epic through Epic Games Support if you see unfamiliar account activity, changed account details, unexpected linked accounts, or recovery emails you did not request.

Epic’s Terms require users to maintain account security and notify Epic through Epic Games Support if unauthorized access is suspected. Change your password through the official Epic site, use a unique password, and enable available account-security protections after you regain access.
7. When to contact Epic Support
Contact support when:
- Epic’s status page shows authentication or login problems and the issue continues after the service is restored.
- The error occurs in multiple browsers, devices, and networks.
- You cannot complete account recovery.
- Your email, password, linked accounts, or other account details appear to have changed.
- You believe an enforcement action has occurred and need an official explanation.
Include the exact wording, the date and time, your platform, whether the browser or launcher is affected, the sign-in method you used, and what happened when you tested another browser or network. Never send your password, two-factor authentication codes, or full payment details to support through an unverified website.
What not to assume
“Epic’s servers are definitely down”
Not necessarily. Epic’s public status page reported its login and authentication components operational on August 7, 2026. A generic request failure can still be local, account-specific, or limited to a service that is not visibly reporting an incident.
“My account is banned”
The message is not proof of a ban. Epic’s Terms describe suspensions and terminations separately and do not equate this generic request error with an enforcement action.
“DNS flushing is the official fix”
Epic’s public status and support material does not provide an Epic-verified command-line repair for this exact message. DNS, cache, VPN, browser, and launcher troubleshooting may be reasonable ways to isolate a local problem, but none is a universally confirmed fix for this wording.
Quick Recap
Fastest troubleshooting order
- Check Epic’s status page.
- Open the official login page in a normal browser.
- Enable JavaScript and allow the required cookies and redirects.
- Retry in a private window and then a second browser.
- Test another trusted network or device.
- Verify the sign-in method and use official account recovery.
- Contact Epic Games Support if the failure persists or security details look wrong.
