Before reserving a World of Warcraft: Forever character name, confirm that the qualifying purchase is on the exact WoW account you will use, update your graphics driver and Battle.net desktop app, install the Forever game version, and prepare several complete first-name/secondary-name combinations. Early Name Reservation runs from October 27 through November 3, 2026, and Blizzard says names are first-come, first-served. Blizzard describes the process as first-come, first-served and says a desired name cannot be guaranteed. Being inside the announced date range therefore does not mean a particular combination is still available.
Is my WoW account eligible to reserve a name?
Eligibility follows the qualifying purchase, not merely ownership of a Battle.net login. Blizzard lists the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, and the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection as qualifying paths. Its notice also refers to the WoW: Forever Digital Upgrade or Collector’s Edition in a footnote.

Check the account that made the purchase
- Sign in to the Battle.net account that owns your WoW license.
- Identify the specific WoW account under that Battle.net login that received the qualifying purchase.
- Use that same WoW account for the reservation flow. Blizzard says the benefit applies only to the specific WoW account on which the purchase was made; it should not be assumed to transfer to another WoW account under the same login or to a different login.
If the reservation option is missing, verify the license and purchase account before changing character names or reinstalling the game. Account entitlement is the first dependency to resolve.
What should I install or update before opening the reservation client?
Blizzard’s preparation guidance is straightforward: update the graphics driver, install or update the Battle.net desktop app, and install World of Warcraft: Forever. No third-party optimizer is required by that guidance.

- Update the graphics driver. Apply the current driver for your graphics hardware through the manufacturer’s normal update channel, then restart if the installer requests it.
- Update Battle.net. Open the Battle.net desktop app and allow its own update process to finish. If it is not installed, install the desktop app before attempting to launch the game.
- Select the correct game version. In Battle.net, select World of Warcraft. Above the Play button, open the Game Version menu and choose World of Warcraft: Forever.
- Install Forever. Start the installation for that version and wait until the client reports that it is ready. Installing a different World of Warcraft version does not substitute for the Forever client used by the reservation flow.
- Sign in early. Launch the installed client with the eligible WoW account before the rush, so an update, login prompt, or account mismatch does not consume the time you need for your first choice.
How does the WoW: Forever naming system work?
Forever uses two name fields: a first name and a last or secondary name. The complete two-name combination is unique within your region. A player having the same first name does not automatically prevent you from using it if the full combination is different.
Blizzard summarizes the rule this way: “What matters is the complete two-name combination.” Treat the pair as the name you are reserving, rather than assuming that the first field works like a globally unique handle.
What is the secondary name for?
The secondary name can add a family, place, reputation, or other identity cue. It can also connect related characters: several characters may share a secondary name while using different first names, creating a readable family or house pattern.

You can change how that information is displayed above your character by choosing Escape → Options → Nameplates → My Secondary Name. Hiding the secondary name affects presentation in the game world only. It remains visible in chat, and it remains part of the identity and uniqueness check.
Are there published limits for length, punctuation, or accents?
Blizzard’s official material does not provide a complete numeric table for maximum field length, punctuation, accented characters, or capitalization. Do not treat an old third-party list as definitive. If a particular spelling matters, verify what the current live client accepts instead of relying on an unconfirmed character-count rule.
How should I prepare a shortlist of names?
Prepare three to six complete combinations before you click through the reservation flow, then rank them from most wanted to least wanted. This is practical planning for a scarce, first-come process; Blizzard does not require a written shortlist.
Write complete pairs, not isolated first names
Record each option as a full pair, such as a first name followed by its secondary name. A single famous first name may have many plausible pairings, while a distinctive secondary name can make the complete combination available and easier for friends to identify.
Check identity clarity
Say each full combination aloud and read it as it would appear in chat. The secondary name should add useful context without making the pair difficult to pronounce, spell, or distinguish from another character. If the character belongs to a family, guild, region, or fictional lineage, use a consistent pattern that readers can recognize.

Rank by importance, not experimentation
Put the character you most want to play first. Keep alternatives that preserve the same concept but change one element at a time, such as a different family name or place reference. Avoid spending the opening minutes testing dozens of near-identical spellings; a rejected or unavailable pair should lead directly to the next complete option.
How many characters can I reserve, and how should I allocate them?
Early Name Reservation allows up to three characters total across all rulesets. The allowance is shared rather than being three slots per ruleset: reserving two characters on PvP leaves one for Normal or Role-Play.
Decide your allocation before entering the client. Put your highest-priority character in the first slot you use, then reserve the remaining combinations only after checking that they fit the ruleset plan you actually want. This prevents an early experiment from consuming a slot intended for a main character.
Which names are most likely to be rejected?
A name that passes an initial field check is not a promise that it complies with Blizzard’s Code of Conduct. Blizzard identifies several risk areas:

- Impersonation or wording that suggests an official role you do not hold.
- Restricted words, including attempts to evade a restriction through unusual spelling.
- Repeated-character patterns or other constructions that the naming rules disallow.
- Splitting a restricted word across the first and secondary names to disguise it.
Review both fields together. A harmless-looking first name can become problematic when paired with a secondary name that implies impersonation or forms a restricted phrase. If a name is borderline, replace the entire combination instead of trying a sequence of evasive spellings.

How do I reserve a WoW: Forever character name?
The reservation is tied to character creation, so you complete the normal creation flow rather than reserving a text string in a separate account page.
- Launch World of Warcraft: Forever from the Battle.net desktop app using the eligible WoW account.
- Choose the intended ruleset and begin character creation.
- Enter the first name and secondary name from your highest-ranked complete combination.
- Review the full pair for spelling, readability, and compliance before submitting.
- If the combination is accepted, finish the character creation required by the client. If it is unavailable or rejected, move immediately to the next prepared pair.
- Repeat only for the remaining characters you have deliberately allocated within the shared three-character allowance.
Because the process is first-come, first-served, preparation is safer than improvisation. Keep your shortlist in a note you can read quickly, but do not paste an unreviewed string that might contain an accidental space or typo.

If the pair is unavailable
Use the next ranked pair that preserves your character concept. A readable secondary name is preferable to a string of confusing substitutions, especially because the secondary name remains visible in chat.
If the pair is rejected
Discard the risky combination and choose a clearly compliant alternative. Do not keep probing the same restricted word with punctuation, repeated letters, or a split across the two fields; Blizzard specifically identifies those evasion patterns as restricted categories.

If you have no usable backup
Blizzard points players to the in-game random name generator as a fallback. Treat generated results as starting points: check the complete pair, its meaning, and how it reads in chat before accepting it.

- Using the wrong WoW account: the purchase entitlement is tied to the account that bought the qualifying product.
- Installing the wrong version: the Battle.net Game Version menu must show World of Warcraft: Forever.
