These are CAPCOM and Steam estimates, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate on every driver, patch, monitor or background workload. The tables below separate the published minimum and recommended tiers, then provide a practical order for lowering settings when your hardware falls between them.

What the “Resident Evil Remake Collection” includes
For this guide, “collection” means the current Steam Resident Evil Remake Trilogy bundle: Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. Older bundles containing the original or older HD releases have different software and hardware requirements, so their specifications should not be substituted for these three modern remakes.
All three games are PC releases built around DirectX 12 and 64-bit Windows. The individual Steam pages list separate requirements; installing the bundle does not create one combined requirement block or one guaranteed performance profile.

Quick answer: which specification should one PC meet?
If you want one computer that can cover all three remakes without treating RE4 as a compromise, aim for RE4’s recommended tier: a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700 processor, 16 GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 5700 or GeForce GTX 1070-class GPU. The older remakes list 8 GB of RAM and lower recommended graphics hardware, so a system built around RE4’s recommendation gives them more headroom.
- Entry point: the minimum tiers are intended for 1080p/30 FPS in RE2 and RE3, and 1080p/45 FPS in RE4 when its “Prioritize Performance” estimate applies.
- Comfortable target: each game’s recommended tier is associated with 1080p/60 FPS in the Steam/CAPCOM listings.
- Ray tracing: RE4 has an additional ray-tracing requirement that is substantially higher than its ordinary recommended tier.
- Storage: RE2 requires 26 GB and RE3 requires 45 GB. The captured RE4 requirements block does not state a storage number, so do not infer one from the other games.

The following values reproduce the published Steam/CAPCOM requirement blocks. “Minimum” and “recommended” describe the vendor’s tiers, not independent laboratory results.

How to interpret the frame-rate targets
RE2 and RE3 publish 1080p/30 FPS at their minimum tiers and 1080p/60 FPS at their recommended tiers. RE4 is different: its minimum-side note uses a 1080p/45 FPS estimate when the game is set to “Prioritize Performance,” while its recommended tier is associated with 1080p/60 FPS.

Those figures are estimates attached to the listed hardware classes. They do not promise that every scene will hold the number, nor do they account for every resolution, graphics preset, operating-system configuration, driver revision or background process. A PC that barely clears a minimum list may need a lower internal resolution or a performance preset to avoid drops.

CPU, GPU, memory and storage: the practical differences
Graphics-card class and VRAM
RE2 and RE3 share the same listed GPU classes: GTX 960 or RX 460 at minimum, and GTX 1060 or RX 480 with 3 GB of VRAM at recommended settings. RE4 starts at an RX 560 4 GB or GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, then moves to an RX 5700 or GTX 1070 for its recommended tier. That makes RE4 the useful upper bound when selecting one GPU for the trilogy.
Available graphics memory matters separately from the GPU model. Steam’s RE2 and RE3 notes specifically advise lowering texture quality, shadow quality or resolution if available graphics memory is insufficient. A card that launches the game can still produce instability or texture-streaming problems when its VRAM is exhausted.
Processor and system memory
RE2 and RE3 list an i5-4460/FX-6300 minimum and an i7-3770/FX-9590 recommendation, with 8 GB RAM in both tiers. RE4 lists a Ryzen 3 1200/Core i5-7500 minimum and a Ryzen 5 3600/Core i7-8700 recommendation. Its recommended memory rises to 16 GB, while its minimum remains 8 GB.

Storage and internet
Reserve 26 GB for RE2 and 45 GB for RE3 according to their Steam requirement blocks. RE3 and RE4 also list broadband internet. The captured RE4 requirements section does not provide a storage figure; treat that value as unstated rather than borrowing RE2’s or RE3’s number.
Check your PC before installing
- Open Windows’ system information and note your exact processor model, installed RAM and Windows edition. Confirm that the operating system is 64-bit.
- In the graphics driver panel or Windows display settings, identify the discrete GPU model and its dedicated VRAM. Do not rely only on the integrated-graphics name shown by a laptop.
- Compare the processor and GPU with the minimum and recommended rows for the game you intend to play first. For all three games, confirm DirectX 12 support.
- Check free disk space before downloading. Keep additional working space available for Steam updates rather than filling the drive to its limit.
- If the PC falls between the two tiers, plan to begin with the lower or performance-oriented preset instead of selecting every high-quality option.
Recommended first-launch settings
There is no single “best settings” combination for every GPU. Use the game’s performance-oriented preset as a starting point, then change one demanding control at a time so you can identify which adjustment solves a problem.
1. Start with the lower or performance preset
CAPCOM advises users who meet minimum specifications but not recommended specifications to turn down graphics settings. This is also the safest starting point for a laptop, an older card or a system with limited VRAM.

2. Reduce texture quality when VRAM is the limit
Textures consume dedicated graphics memory. If the game reports insufficient available graphics memory, lower texture quality before raising other options. The RE2 and RE3 Steam notes explicitly identify texture quality as a control to reduce.

3. Lower shadow quality
Shadows can add a substantial rendering workload, especially in scenes with several lights. Steam’s RE2 and RE3 guidance names shadow quality as another first adjustment when available graphics memory is insufficient. Reduce it before making broad changes to every visual option.
4. Reduce resolution or internal resolution
Resolution directly changes the number of pixels the GPU must render. If a minimum-tier PC cannot maintain its published 1080p estimate, lower the resolution or the game’s internal-resolution scale, if that control is available. This usually has a more immediate performance effect than disabling small visual details.
5. Treat ray tracing as an optional RE4 feature
RE4’s ray tracing has its own hardware guidance: an RX 6700 XT or RTX 2060 minimum, and an RTX 2070 at the recommended tier, according to the Steam notes. These ray-tracing requirements are separate from the ordinary RE4 minimum and recommended rows. If your card is below that class, leave ray tracing disabled rather than trying to compensate with minor quality changes.
Laptop-specific fixes for inconsistent performance
A laptop may satisfy the model-number requirement but still run the game on its integrated GPU or reduce clocks on battery. Use the following order when performance changes dramatically between scenes or sessions.

- Connect the AC charger. Troubleshooting on battery can activate a lower-power graphics and processor mode.
- In Windows, select a high-performance power profile while testing. Restore your preferred balanced profile later if battery life is more important.
- In NVIDIA Control Panel, set the game to Prefer Maximum Performance. On AMD switchable-graphics systems, choose the High Performance Processor option for the game, as described in CAPCOM’s RE4 guidance.
- Confirm in Windows graphics settings that the executable is assigned to the dedicated GPU, then restart the game.
- Keep the laptop’s vents clear and avoid testing on a soft surface that blocks airflow. Thermal throttling can make an otherwise adequate system appear underpowered.
Drivers, Windows and background software
CAPCOM identifies outdated graphics drivers, Windows components and DirectX installations as possible causes of launch and graphics problems. Install current updates for the GPU driver and Windows, then restart before judging performance.
Close recording software, browser-heavy workloads, overlays and other applications that consume CPU time, GPU memory, system RAM or disk I/O. CAPCOM notes that heavy background software can compromise performance and stability. This matters most on an 8 GB system or a card with limited VRAM.
What to do when RE4 settings keep reverting or frame rate remains unstable
Restore RE4’s default configuration
If RE4 continues to behave unpredictably after ordinary setting changes, CAPCOM documents restoring the default local_config.ini configuration. Use the support procedure for locating and replacing that file rather than deleting unrelated save data. A reset removes custom configuration values, so note any preferred settings first.
Verify the Steam installation
Missing or corrupted files can cause crashes, failed launches or unusual rendering behavior. Use Steam’s installed-game properties and its file-verification command to scan the RE4 installation and restore damaged files. Verification does not replace a graphics driver update or solve hardware that is below the requirement.
Change one variable at a time
After a reset or verification, launch with the performance preset, record whether the problem occurs, and then raise one option. Changing texture quality, shadows, resolution and ray tracing simultaneously makes it difficult to identify the actual limit.
Choosing settings by hardware situation

Important limits of the published specifications
- The requirement pages do not constitute a unified benchmark across all GPUs, CPUs, resolutions or game patches.
- The 1080p/30, 1080p/45 and 1080p/60 figures are vendor estimates tied to their stated tiers and settings.
- No universal frame-time guarantee, Steam Deck result or measured comparison between graphics cards follows from these tables.
- RE3’s 720p/30 FPS note applies to its Resistance mode in the minimum block; it should not be interpreted as the main campaign’s recommended target.
- RE4’s storage requirement is not stated in the captured Steam requirements block, while RE2 and RE3 list 26 GB and 45 GB respectively.
Bottom line for a shared trilogy PC
Build or select the machine around RE4’s recommended row: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12, a Ryzen 5 3600/Core i7-8700-class CPU, 16 GB RAM and an RX 5700/GTX 1070-class GPU. That gives you the strongest published baseline for the trilogy, while RE2 and RE3 remain the less demanding titles. If your hardware is closer to minimum, lower textures, shadows and resolution in that order, run laptops from AC power on their dedicated GPU, keep drivers and Windows current, close heavy background applications, and verify files when instability persists.
