Kennedy’s more direct action. That contrast made the game intriguing, but the session was only a preview—not a full review. Requiem has since launched, so this is best read as a record of what those early hands-on hours suggested, not a verdict on the finished game.
What the three-hour preview showed
January 2026 preview coverage described a game that shifts tone with its two protagonists. Grace’s sections leaned toward evasion, tight spaces, and scarce ammunition; Leon’s placed more emphasis on confronting threats. The session gave players a sample of that contrast, but it cannot establish how much time the full game spends with either character or how consistently those styles hold across the campaign.

Anthony Taormina’s Game Rant preview republished by Military.com described Grace first avoiding a monster in a medical wing, then gaining more agency while still managing limited ammunition. George Yang’s Fangoria preview similarly framed Grace as the more claustrophobic, classic survival-horror side of the experience and Leon’s play as closer to the action focus of the Resident Evil 4 remake. Those are preview impressions, not claims about every encounter in the final game.

| Character | What preview coverage emphasized | What that means for play |
|---|---|---|
| Grace Ashcroft | Survival horror, stealth, escape, and limited resources | Threat management and ammunition conservation were prominent in the reported sections. |
| Leon S. Kennedy | More action-oriented combat and direct engagement | The reported emphasis was on facing threats more directly rather than relying as heavily on evasion. |
The useful takeaway is the difference in pressure, not a numerical split. The preview did not provide a reliable measure of how much of the finished game belongs to each character, nor does a short session show how their sections develop over time.

The preview is not a review of the released game
The original hands-on coverage appeared January 26–27, 2026 and described roughly three hours with the game. It was a limited advance look; it did not support a complete-game judgment, a platform comparison, or a conclusion about the quality of the finished campaign. A creator’s January 26 video description says that session used the PS5 Pro version, but that does not amount to controlled performance testing or evidence about other platforms.
At the time of the preview, Fangoria reported a February 27, 2026 launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. That date is now past. Capcom’s March 22, 2026 anniversary message confirmed the release, saying, “Last month, we released Resident Evil Requiem.” Capcom’s current Resident Evil lineup lists the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The preview’s early platform list should therefore not be mistaken for the current one.

What Capcom says about the game’s horror and action
In Capcom’s March 22 anniversary message, Resident Evil Series Executive Producer Jun Takeuchi described the design this way: “With the return to Raccoon City, the place where it all began, we combined the two hearts of the series—horror and action—and packed them both into one title.” That is the publisher’s own explanation of Requiem’s approach; it aligns with the Grace-and-Leon contrast in preview reporting, but is not an independent assessment.
The same Capcom anniversary message reported that Requiem had reached more than six million players worldwide by March 22, 2026. That is a dated publisher-reported milestone, not a current player count.
