Yes—Final Fantasy Resonance deliberately recreates the structure and mood of an earlier Final Fantasy, though it does not reach the series’ best storytelling. Why regular fights can become repetitive
The rules reward planning without becoming mechanically opaque, yet frequent encounters can settle into a familiar weakness-exploitation routine. MP costs also become a practical concern, particularly when healing or specialized abilities are needed repeatedly. That tension is manageable early on but more noticeable in longer stretches between recovery points.
How do Visions work?
Visions are Resonance’s defining customization layer. They represent protagonists and original characters, and they function much like an adaptable job system: equip one to gain active abilities, passive effects, permanent bonuses and a distinct finisher, then level it independently of the character carrying it.
Because Visions can be swapped, a party member is not locked permanently into one role. You can build a damage dealer around elemental exploitation, turn another character into a support specialist, or change configurations for a boss with different weaknesses. This flexibility is the main way Resonance modernizes its classic foundation. The limitation is variety: reviewers note a limited selection of Medic options, which can make dependable healing feel less flexible than offensive planning.

How large are the world and dungeons?
The overworld is sizable and mostly non-linear. Towns, caves, dungeons and optional locations branch away from the main route, while chocobos improve overland travel and a later airship opens broader movement. Fast travel and side-quest tracking reduce the friction of revisiting earlier areas.
Dungeons are generally short and easy to navigate. They are visually varied, but Nintendo Insider and Hey Poor Player both characterize many as mechanically simple or linear. Players seeking elaborate puzzles, hidden routes or elaborate multi-floor mazes may find the exploration safe compared with the series’ most ambitious locations.

Is the Switch 2 version worth buying?
