Robert Pattinson says he is “so happy” Steven Soderbergh has joined The Batman Part II to help Matt Reeves complete the movie’s remaining principal photography. Pattinson called Soderbergh’s decision “completely selfless” and said he expected to return to the set within days of his GamesRadar+ interview. Reeves remains the film’s director and is expected to lead post-production. The latest cited reports still list a U.S. theatrical release date of February 18, 2028.
Why is Steven Soderbergh helping finish The Batman Part II?
Soderbergh offered to complete the remaining principal photography while working in coordination with Reeves. Warner Bros. temporarily paused production while Reeves focused on a family matter; the reported coverage does not identify private details, and there is no basis for speculation beyond that explanation.

Pattinson praised the arrangement in his GamesRadar+ interview, saying, “I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt.” He described Soderbergh’s involvement as “completely selfless” and highlighted the filmmaker’s talent.
The reported handoff is therefore a production solution rather than an announced change in creative ownership. Soderbergh is helping capture the unfinished material, while Reeves’ existing direction remains the guiding framework.

That statement does not provide a complete shooting calendar or identify which scenes remain. It does establish that Pattinson expected to be back for active filming rather than waiting for a future restart announcement.
Has The Batman Part II been delayed again?
The latest cited reports continue to list February 18, 2028, for the U.S. theatrical release. They do not report a newer change to that date. A film still in principal photography has schedule exposure, so the date should be treated as the current announced target rather than a guarantee.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does Soderbergh’s involvement mean for the finished movie?
The stated goal is continuity: Soderbergh said he wants to work with Reeves and his team to generate footage that “will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.” That points to matching established performances, locations, camera language and continuity rather than introducing a separate interpretation of Batman.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “principal photography” mean on a film like The Batman Part II?
Principal photography is the main period when scripted scenes are filmed with the cast and production crew. It is distinct from later editing, visual-effects work, sound mixing and other post-production stages.

How can footage shot by two directors be made to fit together?
The directors and department heads can use the existing script, shot plans, costumes, sets, lighting references and continuity records to match performances and visual details. Editorial assembly then checks that the new shots cut naturally with the material Reeves already filmed.
What happens after the remaining scenes are filmed?
The project moves through picture editing and finishing work, including visual effects, sound editing, music and final mastering. Reeves is expected to guide that post-production process for this film.
Is the February 2028 date a guaranteed cinema opening?
No. It is the current U.S. theatrical date reported for the film. Studios can revise release calendars if filming, post-production, distribution plans or other scheduling constraints change.
