Robert Richens, 35, pleaded guilty to murdering Rachael Vaughan and was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years and one month. A separate report about his arrest footage says he spoke about missing “GTA Six”—a detail not included in Thames Valley Police’s sentencing release.
What sentence did Robert Richens receive?
Thames Valley Police said Richens, of Oxford, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on February 6, 2026, to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years and one month. He had pleaded guilty to one count of murder at a hearing on December 12, 2025. Thames Valley Police’s sentencing release gives the plea and sentence.
Who was Rachael Vaughan?
Vaughan was 40 and from Abingdon. Police said Richens called them at about 6:26 a.m. on May 30, 2025, saying he had killed a woman. Officers and South Central Ambulance Service personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Vaughan was declared dead at the scene.
According to the police account, Richens left Vaughan alone and did not try to help her or seek medical attention before contacting police. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart May of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit said: “My thoughts remain with Rachael Vaughan’s family and with everyone who loved her as they continue to face what is an unimaginable loss.”

What did he reportedly say about GTA VI?
In a February 8, 2026 report, Insider Gaming described arrest footage in which Richens sobbed and said he would “miss GTA.” The report says an officer asked which GTA he meant, and Richens replied, “Six.”
That remark is reported from arrest footage; it does not appear in Thames Valley Police’s sentencing release. The police release confirms the arrest, guilty plea and sentence, but does not discuss the footage or the GTA remark.

What is confirmed—and what is not?
- Confirmed by Thames Valley Police: Richens pleaded guilty to murder, Vaughan’s identity and age, the police timeline, and the life sentence with its minimum term.
- Reported by Insider Gaming: The exchange about missing “GTA Six,” attributed to arrest footage.
Police describe Vaughan as Richens’s former partner. The GTA remark is a news detail from the reported footage, not a finding by the court or an explanation of the crime.
