Roblox error code 901 is an officially documented Xbox authentication error. It can appear when creating an account, signing in, or linking a Roblox account to an Xbox gamertag. The safest first fix is to sign in to the affected Roblox account on a phone or computer connected to the same home network as the Xbox, then retry the Xbox sign-in.
Error 901 does not automatically mean your password is wrong, Roblox is down, or your account is permanently banned. Follow the checks below in order so you can identify whether the problem is with the account, Xbox profile, network, or Roblox service.

What Roblox error code 901 means
Roblox labels code 901 as an Xbox error. According to Roblox Support, it may occur during:
- Roblox account creation
- Roblox sign-in on Xbox
- Linking a Roblox account to an Xbox gamertag
Roblox also says the account connected to the gamertag may be moderated. Other diagnostic possibilities include an incorrect account association, mismatched age settings, child-account permissions, a network authentication problem, or stale app data. These are possible causes—not a single confirmed definition for every 901 error.

1. Check Roblox service status
Before changing account settings or reinstalling anything, check the live Roblox status page. Look for incidents affecting the Xbox App, Website, Games, or authentication-related services.
If a relevant component has an incident, wait for Roblox to resolve it and try again later. If everything is listed as operational, that does not completely rule out a regional or account-specific problem, but a local account, network, or console issue becomes more likely.
2. Perform Roblox’s official same-network test
- On a phone or computer, open Roblox.
- Sign in to the exact Roblox account you are trying to use on Xbox.
- Connect that device to the same home Wi-Fi or internet connection as the Xbox.
- Confirm that the account signs in successfully and look for any moderation or account-status message.
- Return to the Xbox and retry signing in or linking the account.
This is the first procedure prescribed on Roblox’s dedicated Error 901 support page. It separates an account-wide sign-in problem from an Xbox-specific linking or authentication problem.
3. Use the result to identify the problem
If the account fails everywhere
If you cannot sign in on Xbox, a phone, or a computer, focus on the Roblox account rather than the console. Check the Roblox status page, use Roblox’s official password-recovery process, and check your email and spam folders for security or moderation notices.

If browser sign-in itself is failing, Roblox’s guidance for general website issues and browser login problems includes clearing cookies and temporary files, disabling browser add-ons, checking CAPTCHA-related domains, verifying the device clock, and resetting the password when necessary.
If the account works elsewhere but not on Xbox
The account itself is probably accessible, so investigate the Xbox gamertag association, Xbox profile, age settings, permissions, network, and local app state. Do not immediately create another Roblox account: your original account contains its own Robux, items, friends, and game progress.
If another Roblox account works on the same Xbox
The problem is more likely related to the original Roblox account or its association with that Xbox gamertag. Confirm the username and credentials before changing the link.

If multiple Roblox accounts fail only on one Xbox
Check the Xbox service, console software, app installation, Xbox profile permissions, and network connection. This pattern points more strongly to the console, Xbox profile, or network than to one Roblox account.

4. Confirm that you are using the correct accounts
Roblox’s Xbox login flow supports creating a new Roblox account, signing in to an existing account, and selecting the currently signed-in Xbox gamertag. Make sure the Xbox profile belongs to the intended player and that you are signing in to the Roblox account containing your existing progress.
Xbox users must use their Roblox account password; Facebook Connect is not available through Xbox. Roblox also says Quick Login is currently unavailable on Xbox, so QR-based or Quick Login instructions are not a solution for this error.
5. Check moderation and account restrictions
Sign in to Roblox on another device and read any account-status or moderation notice. Roblox identifies moderation as one possible reason for Error 901. If the account has been moderated, use Roblox Support’s appeal process rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app or opening a replacement account.

An appeal does not guarantee that a ban or other moderation action will be removed. Do not give your password or one-time security codes to anyone claiming they can recover the account for a fee.

6. Check age settings and child-account permissions
Roblox says the Xbox age settings should exactly match the Roblox account’s age settings when accounts are linked. Review the Roblox account under Settings → Personal, then check the Xbox or Microsoft family account’s date-of-birth and permission settings.
Do not falsify or repeatedly change a date of birth to bypass restrictions. If the player uses a child account, the parent or family-account organizer may need to approve Roblox access. Roblox specifically states that an Xbox Child Account requires parental permission before launching Roblox.
Also confirm that the signed-in Xbox profile is the intended profile. Roblox states that it is available for ages 10 and up on Xbox, but the effective access available to a child account can still be limited by family settings.

7. Restart the app, Xbox, and network
- Quit Roblox completely and launch it again.
- Restart the Xbox.
- Restart the home router.
- Check for pending Xbox or Roblox updates.
- Retry the same-network sign-in test.
You can temporarily test Roblox on a phone hotspot as a diagnostic comparison. If it works on the hotspot but not on home internet, investigate router filtering, DNS filtering, parental controls, firewall rules, or an ISP routing issue. This comparison is a practical diagnostic—not an official Error 901 fix.
A VPN is not a guaranteed or recommended permanent solution. It can add latency, complicate account-security checks, and create further connectivity problems.
8. Unlink and relink only when the association is clearly wrong
Unlinking should not be your first step. Do it only after confirming that you know the correct Roblox username and password and that the wrong Xbox association is the likely problem. Roblox says one Roblox account can be linked to one Xbox gamertag.
To unlink from the Xbox Roblox app:
- Open the Roblox home screen.
- Press the X button to open Settings.
- Select Account.
- Select UNLINK [YOUR GAMERTAG].
Roblox also provides an alternative disconnect option on its website under Security, in the Xbox section. Unlinking can remove a working association and create more uncertainty, and it is not guaranteed to resolve Error 901. Relink only the verified original account.

Reinstalling may help if the Xbox app installation is damaged, but it cannot fix a moderated account, incorrect password, wrong gamertag, age mismatch, or Roblox-side outage. That is why account and service checks should come first.
For broader Xbox app-start or console problems, follow the troubleshooting procedures recommended by Microsoft through Roblox’s general Xbox app troubleshooting guidance. A factory reset is not a normal Error 901 fix and should not be used unless Microsoft specifically recommends it for a confirmed Xbox-system problem.
What not to do
- Do not create a second Roblox account just to bypass Error 901.
- Do not repeatedly unlink and relink accounts without verified credentials.
- Do not assume the code proves that you are banned.
- Do not use unofficial support phone numbers or paid account-recovery services.
- Do not share passwords, backup codes, or one-time verification codes.
- Do not treat changing DNS, clearing a cache, using a VPN, or factory-resetting the Xbox as guaranteed fixes.
- Do not confuse Error 901 with unrelated codes such as 264, 266, 267, or 268.
When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox Support if the account remains inaccessible, the moderation status is unclear, or the verified account still cannot link to Xbox after the checks above.
Include the information Roblox requests:
- Xbox gamertag
- Roblox username
- Full error message
- Error code 901
- Xbox model, such as Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
- Whether the account works on a phone or computer
- Any recent account, console, profile, or network changes
Describe exactly where the failure occurs: account creation, sign-in, or gamertag linking. This gives Support a useful starting point and avoids unnecessary account changes.
