Steam’s client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. A fully updated 64-bit Windows 10 installation is therefore the relevant baseline; an old or 32-bit installation can create problems before Rocket League starts.
How do I fix Rocket League when it will not launch or crashes on startup?

- Restart Windows. A restart clears a stuck Steam process, pending driver update and temporary Easy Anti-Cheat state. Launch Steam only after the desktop has returned.
- Disable mods and close third-party or background applications. Exit overlays, recording tools, hardware utilities and other non-essential software one at a time. If Rocket League starts, re-enable items individually to find the conflict. Steam’s own launch guidance also recommends disabling non-essential software.
- Confirm DirectX 11 is available. Rocket League’s Windows requirements specify DirectX 11. Install all pending Windows updates and use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (
dxdiag) to check the reported DirectX version and display driver. - Clear Rocket League’s cache. Close the game and Steam first, then remove the Rocket League cache using the location described in Epic Games Player Support’s Windows troubleshooting instructions. Cache data is temporary; the game recreates it at the next launch. Do not delete unrelated save or profile folders.
- Read the actual error message. Record the wording or code before dismissing it. An EAC message, a missing DLL notice and a graphics-driver crash require different follow-up steps.
- Check the hardware and storage requirements. Compare your system with the table below, and leave more free disk space than the stated game requirement so Windows and Steam can update safely.
- Verify the installation in Steam. Open Library, right-click Rocket League, choose Properties, select Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. Steam redownloads damaged or missing files; it does not normally erase your save.
- Update the video-card driver. Install the current driver supplied by your GPU manufacturer, restart Windows, and test again. If the issue began immediately after a driver update, use the manufacturer’s supported rollback option rather than installing random driver packages.
- Try Windowed display mode. If the game reaches a black screen or closes during display initialization, use the launch option in the next section.
- Force default video settings. Undo custom resolution, rendering and display options. A setting that your monitor cannot display can look like a crash even though the process is running.
- Rename the Rocket League folder only after the earlier checks. Epic lists renaming the game’s folder as a way to rebuild local configuration. Close Steam first and preserve the renamed folder until you have confirmed that the game starts; this gives you a recovery copy.
What extra Windows settings can affect startup?
- Disable Xbox Game Bar captures if recording hooks coincide with the crash.
- Use an appropriate Windows power mode instead of an aggressive power-saving profile when the GPU is not reaching its normal performance state.
- If OneDrive is synchronizing game-related files and causing stutter or an EAC hang, pause or disable that synchronization for the affected folder.
- An unusually large friends or blocked list is listed by Epic as a possible performance factor; reducing it is a later optimization, not the first launch fix.
If the crash remains after these steps, contact the hardware manufacturer for a driver or hardware diagnosis and use official Rocket League support with the recorded error, system details and the steps already completed.

The figures are the published Windows values: 4 GB RAM minimum, 8 GB recommended and 20 GB storage. If your PC misses a minimum requirement, software troubleshooting cannot make that component meet the game’s baseline. Free additional space is prudent because Steam needs room to unpack and replace files during updates.

How do I fix a black screen when Rocket League audio still plays?
Epic says a black screen with audible game sound can indicate a display-resolution or HDCP problem. On Steam, force a windowed launch before changing hardware or reinstalling.
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Rocket League and choose Properties.
- In the General tab, find Launch Options.
- Enter
-windowedexactly, with the leading hyphen. - Close the Properties window and launch Rocket League.
If the game appears in a window, open its in-game display settings and choose a resolution and refresh rate supported by your monitor. Remove -windowed afterward if you want to test fullscreen again. If there is still no picture, return to the launch/crash sequence: verify files, update the GPU driver, and reset custom video settings. A monitor, cable or HDCP handshake problem can also be involved, so test another display path only after the software checks.
Why does Rocket League say it is not connected to the servers?
When menus load but login or matchmaking fails, treat it as a network or service issue rather than a broken Steam installation. The relevant messages include “not connected,” “not logged in,” “no servers online,” “unknown error while communicating,” and Error 71.

- Check Epic’s public status page. At the time of the latest status check, Rocket League services were shown as operational. That result is point-in-time information; check again when the error occurs because a later outage can change the diagnosis.
- Confirm the selected region. In Rocket League’s Play or matchmaking settings, choose the geographically appropriate region. Epic warns that restricted regions can cause connectivity problems.
- Restart the router. Power it off, wait for it to finish shutting down, then power it back on and wait for internet service to return before launching the game.
- Clear Rocket League’s cache. Use the game’s cache-clearing procedure, with Steam and Rocket League closed, then retry the connection.
- Test a wired connection. Connect the PC directly to the router, preferably for one complete matchmaking test. Disconnect other devices that are consuming substantial bandwidth. A Cat6 cable is optional; the purpose of this test is a stable wired path, not a particular cable brand.
- Synchronize the Windows clock. Incorrect time can interfere with authentication and secure connections. In Windows 10, open Settings > Time & Language > Date & time, enable automatic time, and select Sync now.
- Try Google Public DNS. Change the active adapter’s DNS servers to Google’s published DNS addresses, then reconnect and test. Record your original DNS settings so you can restore them if this makes no difference.
If the service page is operational and the same account fails on both wired and wireless connections, retain the exact error code and contact official support. Do not repeatedly reinstall the game for a server-side or regional failure.
What should I do if Steam detects no controller?
Check Rocket League’s current known-issues page before replacing a controller. The page updated October 20, 2026, lists some third-party controllers that are not detected on PC when EAC is enabled. That is a known compatibility condition, not proof that every controller or every Windows 10 installation is affected.
- Confirm whether EAC is enabled in the configuration that launches Rocket League.
- Test the controller in another Steam game to separate a hardware or USB problem from Rocket League detection.
- Reconnect the controller directly to the PC, avoid an unpowered hub for the test, and restart Steam.

Are there current Rocket League outages or known Windows 10 Steam bugs?
The known-issues page updated October 20, 2026 lists a Dominus: Neon glow effect that may not display consistently in some arenas, intermittent detection failures for some third-party PC controllers when EAC is enabled, and engine sound that can occasionally stick at the respawn point after a demolition.
