The apparent European pricing leak for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X was broadly close to the final European figures—but it was not authoritative, and it did not predict the confirmed U.S. prices exactly.
Xbox later confirmed U.S. estimated retail prices of $599.99 for the ROG Xbox Ally and $999.99 for the ROG Xbox Ally X. Preorders opened on September 25, 2025, ahead of the worldwide launch scheduled for October 16, 2025.

ROG Xbox Ally pricing: leak versus confirmed U.S. price
| Model | Apparent leaked European price | Confirmed U.S. price | Preorder and launch timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally | €599 | $599.99 | Preorders from September 25, 2025; worldwide launch October 16, 2025 |
| ROG Xbox Ally X | €899 | $999.99 | Preorders from September 25, 2025; worldwide launch October 16, 2025 |
The €599 and €899 figures were reported before an official pricing announcement and were therefore best described as a leak. The later $599.99 and $999.99 figures are the confirmed U.S. launch or estimated retail prices reported by Xbox and reflected in Microsoft Store listings. A sale price at a particular retailer should be labeled separately from the official price.
Why the Ally X costs $400 more
The $400 gap is not simply a premium for the Xbox branding. The Ally X has meaningful hardware upgrades over the base ROG Xbox Ally:
| Specification | ROG Xbox Ally | ROG Xbox Ally X |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen Z2 A | AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme |
| Memory | 16GB LPDDR5-6400 | 24GB LPDDR5X-8000 |
| Internal storage | 512GB M.2 2280 SSD | 1TB M.2 2280 SSD |
| Battery | 60Wh | 80Wh |
| Display | 7-inch 1080p IPS, 120Hz | 7-inch 1080p IPS, 120Hz |
| Variable refresh rate | AMD FreeSync Premium | AMD FreeSync Premium |
| Wireless connectivity | Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 | Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 |
| Operating system | Windows 11 Home | Windows 11 Home |
Both handhelds share the same broad display and connectivity foundations, including a 7-inch 1080p IPS panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium variable refresh rate, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 and microSD support.
The Ally X adds a stronger processor, 50% more memory, twice the internal storage capacity and a battery that is one-third larger by rated capacity. Those upgrades are especially relevant for buyers who want to play demanding PC games, keep more games installed or use the handheld for longer away from a charger.
ASUS also describes the Ally X as offering improved efficiency and performance over the previous ROG Ally X. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent battery-life or performance test results, so they should not be interpreted as a guaranteed frame-rate or runtime advantage.

The Ally X also has better USB connectivity
The port layouts provide another reason for the price difference. The ROG Xbox Ally X has:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- One USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1 and Power Delivery 3.0
- Thunderbolt 4 compatibility on that USB4 port
- A second USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port
The base ROG Xbox Ally has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports instead. Both systems support accessories and external displays, but the Ally X’s USB4 port gives it a more capable connection for compatible docks, displays and high-speed peripherals.
What comes with either handheld?
Xbox says both models include three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium, which it describes as almost a $45 value. The exact value and bundle terms should be checked at the time of purchase because promotional inclusions can vary by market, retailer and offer period.
The devices are Windows 11 Home handheld gaming PCs made by ASUS, rather than traditional Xbox consoles. Xbox supplies the co-developed software and user-experience layer, but the underlying systems remain Windows PCs with access to the broader PC gaming ecosystem.
Storage and accessory costs to consider
The base model’s 512GB SSD may be adequate for a smaller library, but modern PC games can consume a substantial portion of that capacity. The Ally X starts with a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD, which gives it more usable room before an upgrade becomes necessary. Both models also support microSD cards.

- [Xbox experience brought to life by ROG] : The Xbox gaming legacy meets ROG's decades of premium hardware design in the ROG Xbox Ally. Boot straight into the Xbox experience just like a console.
- [Xbox Game Bar integration] : Launch Game Bar with a tap of the Xbox button or play your favorite titles natively from platforms like Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games, or Windows games on the go.
- [All your games, all your progress]: Powered by Windows 11, the ROG Xbox Ally gives you access to your full library of PC games from Xbox and other game stores. With Xbox Play Anywhere, you can pick up right where you left off on your PC or Xbox and jump back into the game anytime.
- [Never stop gaming]: Powered by ultra-efficient AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, the ROG Xbox Ally offers console-caliber performance and can game for hours, even away from a wall outlet.
- [Game-ready storage and fast memory]: Store your full library and multitask seamlessly with 512GB SSD and 16GB of LPDDR5 6400MHz RAM. The ROG Xbox Ally makes playing any game in the palm of your hand possible.
- The ROG Xbox Ally Premium Case
- The ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock
- SanDisk microSD cards in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities
ASUS lists the ROG Xbox Ally Premium Case at $69.99 in the United States. A case, larger storage card, dock or replacement charger can materially increase the real cost of ownership beyond the handheld’s advertised price.
Xbox describes the internal storage as easier to upgrade, but buyers should not assume that every M.2 replacement is compatible. Before purchasing an SSD, verify the exact model, physical dimensions, installation procedure and any warranty implications.
Which ROG Xbox Ally should you buy?
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally at $599.99 if:
- You want the lowest entry price into the Xbox-PC handheld range.
- You mainly play less demanding games or are comfortable adjusting graphics settings.
- 512GB of internal storage is sufficient, or you plan to use a microSD card.
- You do not need the Ally X’s USB4 connectivity.
Choose the ROG Xbox Ally X at $999.99 if:
- You want the stronger Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.
- You expect to play more demanding PC games and want additional memory headroom.
- You want 1TB of internal storage out of the box.
- You value the larger 80Wh battery and upgraded USB4 port.
- You would otherwise spend money upgrading storage and adding more capable connectivity to the base model.
The Ally X is not automatically the better value for every buyer. Its $400 premium buys substantially stronger specifications, but the two models retain the same 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display and Windows 11 foundation. The base model is the more sensible option if those shared features matter more than maximum performance, battery capacity and expansion flexibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat the leak got right—and what it got wrong
The apparent leak was directionally useful because the reported European prices were close to the prices that ultimately emerged in that region. However, the listings were not an ASUS or Microsoft launch announcement. That distinction matters: an e-commerce metadata entry can be temporary, regional, incomplete or wrong.
It also would have been misleading to convert the leaked euro figures directly into U.S. prices. The confirmed U.S. pricing shows why regional conversions are unreliable: the premium model launched at $999.99, not $899, while the base model’s U.S. price was $599.99.
The short version is that the leak was a reasonable early warning about the products’ price tier, but the official U.S. figures—not the €599 and €899 listings—are the numbers American buyers should use.

What to check before ordering
- Confirm the model name. Do not confuse the ROG Xbox Ally X with the earlier non-Xbox ROG Ally X.
- Check the region. European prices cannot be used as a direct substitute for U.S. retail pricing.
- Separate MSRP from a sale price. A retailer discount does not change the confirmed launch price.
- Confirm the bundle. Check whether the three-month Game Pass Premium offer is included in your market and order.
- Budget for storage and protection. The case, microSD card or dock may be separate purchases.
- Check stock and seller details. Availability, shipping dates and third-party seller pricing can change after launch.
If you are shopping for the premium model, compare the current listing for the ROG Xbox Ally X with Microsoft’s listed price and verify that the listing is for the Xbox-branded Ally X—not the earlier ROG Ally X.
