RuneScape Reignited and RS4 are different things

What Reignited changes in the existing RuneScape
Jagex presents Reignited as a way to begin RuneScape anew, with restoration changes and major features brought together in a remastered opening. The experience starts from Lumbridge, with a Gielinor Adventure Guide and officially supported plugins integrated in game. Jagex also describes the Reignited world as having no Treasure Hunter.
The Reignited page frames the restoration initiative as a response to player feedback across the user interface, combat, visuals, and balance. Jagex says Hero Pass has been removed and Treasure Hunter is gone. These are Jagex’s descriptions of its work, not an independent assessment of how each change affects play.
Jagex says parts II and III of the remastered journey are planned for later in 2027. Its separate Treasure Hunter consultation announcement says more than 120,000 players voted in favour of supporting the feature’s removal in 2025, and that Treasure Hunter was retired on January 19, 2026. What Jagex has announced about RS4
Jagex describes RS4 as a new MMORPG built in Unreal Engine, currently at an early stage and still a few years away. The announced story takes place years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds and the destruction of the Dragon Queen Kuldra. It begins in Ashenfall, a region Jagex says was first explored in Dragonwilds.
On whether RS4 replaces the current games, Jagex’s announcement is direct: “Let’s make one thing really clear. RS4 is not a replacement for any of our games, be it Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds.” Jagex says those games have dedicated teams, roadmaps, and continued investment; that is the company’s stated commitment.

Jagex has said it intends to share more in 2027 about RS4’s world, game, development team, and ways players can get involved. It has named integrity, permanent progression, and community-driven development as design principles, but those intentions are not yet a detailed gameplay specification.
Will your RuneScape account carry over to RS4?
Jagex has not announced whether an existing account, character, inventory, or progress will transfer to RS4. The RS4 announcement explicitly leaves account and progression questions unanswered. Treat account migration—or a guaranteed wipe—as unconfirmed rather than assuming either outcome.

For Reignited, Jagex describes a new beginning within the existing RuneScape game, but its page does not explain how that start connects to a player’s existing account or character. The announcement alone does not establish whether Reignited is a separate account, world, or progression track.
What has not been announced for RS4
Jagex has not yet specified RS4’s platforms, release date, membership terms, combat system, or skill list. “A few years away” is not a release window, and the announced plan for more information in 2027 does not establish when the game will launch. The choice of Unreal Engine and the name RS4 do not confirm how it will play or which systems it will use.
