Use your detector, watch for distorted air, listen for its warning, and probe suspicious ground with a bolt before moving. Bolts can reveal and trigger anomalies; some hazards stay discharged for only a few seconds, so cross promptly when you create an opening. The official overview identifies fire, gravitational, acid, and electric anomalies, but says other types exist without naming them. It is not a complete catalog or a verified counter for every anomaly.
How to spot and test an anomaly
Anomalies are dangerous areas where the Zone’s physical rules behave unexpectedly. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Support guide, published by GSC Game World on November 14, 2024, recommends combining audio, visual, and detector cues rather than relying on one sign.

- Listen for your detector. Its warning becomes more frequent as you approach an anomaly.
- Look for distorted air. Flickering or pulsating visuals can reveal a hazard that is otherwise hard to see.
- Probe with a bolt. Throw one into the suspected area to trigger the anomaly and expose the danger before you step closer.
- Move only after checking the result. If the bolt triggers a discharge, use the brief opening to cross promptly; some anomalies remain inactive for only a few seconds.
Bolts become available after the prologue. Treat a triggered discharge as a short window, not proof that the route is permanently safe.
Broad anomaly types and their dangers
GSC’s overview describes these four broad categories and their general effects. It also notes that more formidable anomaly types exist, but does not name them in that guide.
#1 Best Overall
| Category | General danger described by GSC |
|---|---|
| Fire | Burns the player. |
| Gravitational | Can tear a character apart. |
| Acid | Can corrode equipment. |
| Electric | Delivers powerful shocks. |
These are broad categories, not a complete list of named anomalies. The available official overview does not establish a unique countermeasure, safe route, damage value, or timing for each specific anomaly, so do not assume one bolt technique works identically everywhere.
Getting through an anomalous field
An anomalous field packs multiple hazards into a small area. It is dangerous to cross blindly, though fields may contain valuable artifacts. GSC’s beginner guidance recommends using a detector and bolts to find a way through individual anomalies and fields.

- Approach cautiously and use the detector’s changing warning frequency as a proximity clue.
- Observe the air for flickering or pulsating distortions.
- Test suspected hazards with bolts and watch what each one triggers before advancing.
- Use any discharge opening immediately; do not assume it lasts beyond a few seconds.
Finding artifacts without ignoring their drawbacks
If you are searching a field for artifacts, the Echo Detector is the early default according to Epic’s guide. It flashes blue when an artifact is nearby and blinks faster as you approach its location. The same guide says more advanced detectors, including the Bear Detector, can later be purchased at Rostok.
Artifacts can provide useful effects and harmful ones at the same time. Epic gives the Hypercube as an example: it provides maximum bleeding resistance and thermal protection, but also causes maximum radiation buildup. Most artifact types cause radiation buildup, which can continue affecting you indoors. Epic names radiation-resistant suits and artifacts such as Urchin, Slug, or Slime as ways to offset that risk. Weigh an artifact’s full effect rather than treating every discovery as a straightforward upgrade.

What is—and is not—known about every anomaly
The official anomaly overview reviewed here is a general guide, not an exhaustive, versioned catalog. It confirms that anomaly types beyond its four examples exist, but does not establish their exact names or individual tactics. As a result, a complete current list of every anomaly and a reliable bespoke counter for each cannot be given from these sources. Use the detector, observation, and bolt probing as general precautions, and judge each hazard by what it reveals in the field.
