1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe headline is broadly right, but it needs two important corrections: 32 GB of RAM is recommended for the High preset, not required to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and the GeForce RTX 4070 is one of three GPUs listed for the recommended target. The current Steam specification targets High settings at 1440p and 60 frames per second, using technologies such as TSR, DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
Current recommended PC requirements
The current Steam listing specifies this configuration for the recommended experience:

- CPU: Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- Memory: 32 GB dual-channel RAM
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
- Storage: 160 GB available space on an SSD
- Target: High graphics settings, 1440p and 60 fps
That is a target, not a promise of a locked 60 fps in every scene or on every system. The listed testing includes reconstruction and upscaling technologies, so it should not be interpreted as guaranteed native 1440p performance.

GSC lists a 160 GB SSD requirement for every tier. These figures are official targets rather than independent performance tests by this article.
Do you need 32 GB of RAM?
No—not to meet the minimum specification. The official minimum is 16 GB of dual-channel memory. However, 32 GB is the recommended amount for High settings and is advised as additional headroom even for the Medium tier.
A 16 GB system may run the game at the minimum target, but browser tabs, recording software, launchers and other background applications can increase memory pressure. Upgrading to 32 GB makes more sense when the rest of the PC is already near the Medium or High hardware class; extra RAM cannot compensate for an underpowered GPU or CPU.

Is the RTX 4070 required?
No. The RTX 4070 is one of three equivalent GPU options listed for the High/1440p/60 target. The other choices are the RTX 3070 Ti and Radeon RX 6800 XT.
Do not treat matching model names as an absolute performance guarantee. Results can vary with the CPU, cooling, drivers, power limits and game updates. A laptop RTX 4070 also has variable power limits and should not automatically be assumed to perform like a desktop RTX 4070.
What does “recommended” actually mean?
For this game, “recommended” means High settings at 1440p with a 60-fps target. It does not mean maximum settings, 4K or ray tracing at 60 fps. The Steam listing says the recommended specifications were tested with TSR, DLSS, FSR and XeSS, so upscaling may be part of the intended performance path.

The separate Epic tier is the relevant official reference for 4K: GSC lists an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX, 32 GB of RAM and a Core i7-13700KF or Ryzen 7 7700X for 2160p at 60 fps or higher.

A 1440p recommendation does not mean 1080p is unsupported. GSC lists two lower targets:
- Low: 1080p at 30 fps with a GTX 1060 6GB, RX 580 8GB or Intel Arc A750.
- Medium: 1080p at 60 fps with an RTX 2070 SUPER, RTX 4060 or RX 5700 XT.
These are published targets, not guarantees for every PC using one of those GPUs. CPU performance, memory configuration, drivers and demanding open-world scenes can all affect consistency.

Why the SSD requirement matters
The game requires 160 GB of available space on an SSD. An HDD does not satisfy the stated storage requirement, even if it has enough capacity. The specifications do not require a particular interface such as SATA or NVMe.
“160 GB available” should not be treated as a sensible long-term storage plan. Updates, shader caches, saves and other software also need room. Leave more free space than the bare figure where possible, and check that your system supports the type and form factor of SSD you intend to install.
A note about the CPU listings
There is a discrepancy between the two current official sources. Steam lists the High recommendation as a Core i7-11700 or Ryzen 7 5800X, while GSC’s support guide lists a Core i7-9700K or Ryzen 7 3700X for its High tier.
Best Value
- Powered by NVIDIA DLSS3, ultra-efficient Ada Lovelace architecture, and full ray tracing.
- 4th Generation Tensor Cores: Up to 4x performance with DLSS 3 vs. brute force rendering
- OC mode: 2550 MHz / Default Mode: 2520 MHz
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure.
- A 2.55 slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis.
Both sources agree on the important graphics, memory, storage and 1440p/60 targets, but neither source here provides a revision history explaining the difference. For the store-facing requirement, use Steam’s current CPU list; for the broader tier breakdown, use GSC’s guide rather than silently combining the two lists.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can your PC run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
Check these points before buying or upgrading:
- Is the game installed on an SSD with at least 160 GB available?
- Does the PC have 16 GB or 32 GB of dual-channel RAM?
- Which exact GPU is installed, and is it a desktop or laptop model?
- Does the GPU roughly match the Low, Medium, High or Epic tier?
- Is the CPU close to the model listed for your intended target?
- Are Windows and your graphics drivers current?
- Can the power supply, case and cooling support a proposed GPU upgrade?
GSC’s PC performance guidance emphasizes keeping drivers current. Use tools such as Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool or your GPU software to identify your hardware before deciding what to replace.
What should you upgrade first?
- Move the installation to an SSD. This is an explicit requirement.
- Check the GPU. Graphics hardware determines which resolution and preset target is realistic.
- Upgrade 16 GB to 32 GB of RAM if the system is otherwise suitable and memory pressure is a problem.
- Assess the CPU, especially if performance drops during traversal or in crowded areas.
- Keep storage headroom for patches and normal system use.
This order is a practical starting point, not a benchmark-derived guarantee. If the PC is old enough that several parts fall below the minimum, a platform or complete-system upgrade may be more sensible than replacing one component.

The claim that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 recommends 32 GB of RAM, 160 GB of SSD space and an RTX 4070 is broadly accurate, but “revealed” is stale wording for the current listing. The RTX 4070 is not mandatory, 32 GB is not the minimum, and the official High target is 1440p/60—not 4K at maximum settings. For 1080p Low, the minimum hardware may be enough; for 1440p High, aim for the RTX 3070 Ti/RTX 4070/RX 6800 XT class with 32 GB RAM and an SSD.
