Scramble Knights Online exists because its developers decided the original battle-royale formula was holding the game back. Funktronic Labs spent three years building Scramble Knights Royale, then changed direction after playtests showed that players enjoyed the world, exploration and adventure but disliked the required PvP structure. The replacement is an MMO-lite co-op action RPG set in the shared kingdom of Terracott, with quests, dungeons, loot, crafting and character progression. PvP has not vanished, but it is now a secondary feature rather than the central format.
Why did Scramble Knights change from a battle royale to an MMO-lite game?
Funktronic Labs changed the genre after public playtests exposed a mismatch between what the team had built and what players wanted to do in that world. Lobbies emptied, one streamer stopped after only a few minutes, and commenters repeatedly said they would play if PvP were not the focus. Players were responding to the setting and sense of adventure, not to battle-royale elimination.

The studio tried additional competitive formats, including Capture the Flag and Team Death Match. Those experiments kept leading back to the same conclusion: the strongest parts of the game happened between fights, when players explored and cooperated. The team therefore tested an “MMO-Lite” loop in which players gather in town, select a mission, depart together, complete it and return to prepare for the next expedition.
Funktronic describes the result as “not quite an MMO, but also more than a co-op game.” The rework took less than six months to reshape the existing world and combat, while the full development effort—including the original project and redesign—approached four years.

What happened to Scramble Knights Royale?
Scramble Knights Royale was not simply renamed. Its battle-royale identity was replaced by a shared-world adventure structure, while the top-down combat and setting were carried forward. Systems that were added or expanded for the new version include NPCs, quests, story content, crafting, stronger enemy design and long-term character progression.

What kind of game is Scramble Knights Online?
Scramble Knights Online is an MMO-lite adventure and action RPG in the online kingdom of Terracott. Its structure combines short, Zelda-inspired objectives with strategic top-down combat. Players travel across an archipelago, solve dungeon puzzles, defeat bosses, gather gems and materials, craft weapons and armor, and refine their builds over time.
Town Square is the preparation and social hub
Town Square is where players meet, form groups, upgrade equipment, fish, display cosmetics and select their next activity. The studio’s intended rhythm is deliberately repeatable: accept a mission, enter the world, finish its objective, return to town and improve the character before setting out again.

Solo play and co-op
The game supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players. The Xbox listing separately reports online multiplayer for 2–32 participants, so the larger figure should be understood as a storefront multiplayer specification rather than the advertised four-player expedition group size.
Is PvP still in Scramble Knights Online?
Yes. PvP was reduced rather than removed. Players can encounter invasions and other teams during the new cooperative structure, but battle royale is no longer the default way to play. Funktronic has said that a return to battle royale or the addition of other PvP modes is only a possibility after the new game is established; it is not the current core design.
Can I play Scramble Knights Online on Xbox and PC?
The current US Xbox listing identifies Xbox Series X|S and PC support, Xbox Play Anywhere, and a $12.99 purchase price. It labels the product a work in progress/Game Preview, so features and availability can change as development continues.

The developer’s launch announcement says the game is included with Xbox Game Pass. The Xbox store specifies cloud play through Game Pass Ultimate, so subscription access and cloud availability should not be treated as identical to every Game Pass tier or storefront option.
Is Scramble Knights Online coming to Steam?
Steam currently lists the game for Q4 2026 and says it is not yet available. That planned Steam release is separate from the current Xbox/PC storefront offer and should not be read as evidence that the Steam build can already be downloaded.

These are the requirements shown on the Steam listing, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or performance level. The Linux storage requirement is higher than the Windows figure, so dual-boot or Linux users should plan for the separate 16 GB allocation.

What does the genre change mean for players?
The redesign makes the game’s central promise social rather than competitive: “Adventure With Friends.” Players who wanted exploration, dungeon objectives and persistent progression now have a structure built around those activities. Players seeking a pure battle royale should instead treat the former concept as discontinued and the current PvP elements as supporting features.

Yes. Funktronic describes solo play as supported alongside co-op. The quest, dungeon and progression systems are designed around repeatable expeditions, so joining a group is not presented as a requirement.
