Matthew Lillard returns as Afton. Both actors played Ghostface killers in Scream (1996): Ulrich as Billy Loomis and Lillard as Stu Macher. Their reunion is the film’s most recognizable casting link to a horror franchise that predates it.
Who Skeet Ulrich plays in the sequel
Peacock’s official cast guide identifies Ulrich as Henry Emily and describes him as William Afton’s business partner in the Fazbear franchise idea. That makes Henry a character connected to the Afton family rather than a returning face from the first film’s storyline. The guide is the primary confirmation of the role; NBCUniversal’s cast listing confirms Lillard’s part as Afton.
Ulrich himself has said little about the part. At San Diego Comic-Con, as reported by GamesRadar, he said: “I will say, I play somebody with a very particular and specific past, and somebody who has a deep emotional tie to what’s going on.” He added: “Other than that, I’m not really allowed to say. I’ll defer to your lawyer.” That remark is secondary reporting of a convention appearance, so it confirms his tone rather than any plot detail.
The Scream connection
Ulrich and Lillard both appeared in Wes Craven’s Scream (1996), where they were two of the killers wearing the Ghostface mask. Peacock draws that link directly in its cast explainer. The table below sets the two roles side by side.

The reunion is a matter of casting history, not of shared characters. Neither role carries over from Scream into the Five Nights at Freddy’s story.
The sequel’s setup
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s December 22, 2025 release describes the film as taking place one year after the events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The synopsis reads: “One year after the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a shocking new chapter of terror begins when former security guard Mike’s sister, Abby, sneaks out in search of her animatronic friends: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.” Universal’s synopsis adds that new events reveal secrets about Freddy’s origins.

Several production details are fixed by Universal and NBCUniversal:

Peacock describes the film as drawing on Cawthon’s game world without being a direct adaptation of any single game. Viewers expecting a straight retelling of the second game will find a different structure. The story expands on the franchise’s mythology rather than following one game’s plot beat by beat.

Production context from the filmmakers
Producer Jason Blum praised Cawthon in an NBCUniversal interview: “Scott Cawthon is one of the most thoughtful creators I have ever worked with. He is deeply involved in every part of Five Nights at Freddy’s—the strategy, the business and the creative decisions.”
Director Emma Tammi described how the first film was received while it was in theaters: “The success of the first film felt surreal. It came out during the SAG-AFTRA strike, so we did not have a premiere or a shared moment to celebrate.” She said that watching audiences respond was when she first believed another film might happen.

The franchise figures that frame the sequel come from NBCUniversal’s reporting on the first film, not the sequel. Those figures are nearly $300 million worldwide and an $80 million opening. NBCUniversal also reported that the first film became the most-watched entertainment title on Peacock in its first five days of streaming. None of these numbers are results for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

Universal’s release statement sets out the home-video timeline. Peacock’s official page reports the film began streaming there on April 3, 2026. Streaming availability can change, so check Peacock before subscribing for this title.
