Seaopolis: Submerged 4.1 is an underwater survival and questing modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. Install the client through a CurseForge-compatible launcher, then use the matching 4.1 server-pack ZIP for multiplayer. The client and server must use the same pack release, Minecraft version, and Forge-based setup.

What Seaopolis: Submerged is
Seaopolis: Submerged, created by benbenlaw, puts the usual skyblock-style progression beneath the ocean instead of on a floating island. You begin in a room under the sea, manage the hazards of an underwater environment, follow quests, and gradually build the technology and infrastructure needed to reach later stages such as the Nether.

The official project classifies the pack under skyblock, quests, tech, exploration, and multiplayer. Those labels describe the intended rhythm: survive the initial pressure of the ocean, complete guided objectives, automate materials, investigate custom world content, and cooperate with other players when the pack is installed on a server.
Several named components shape that progression. Thermal Series supplies technology and processing, Opolis Utilities adds supporting utilities, and Strainers provide an important early-world approach to gathering resources. Roomopolis is a custom mod included specifically to make underwater room construction less troublesome than placing every block manually in open water.

The official description calls it “an ocean based survival questing modpack” and emphasizes a customized world containing mobs and structures. It is therefore not simply a standard ocean biome with a quest book attached; the world layout, encounters, and progression are part of the pack’s identity.
Current release, Minecraft version, and loader
The current files listing identifies version 4.1 as the release to use for a new installation. Both the client download and dedicated server pack target Minecraft 1.20.1 and the Forge loader.

Older 4.0 and 3.x/B-series files remain visible in the project’s files list. They are useful when joining an existing world that was created on an older release, but they should not be mixed casually with 4.1. A 4.1 client paired with an older server pack, or an older client paired with the 4.1 server pack, can produce missing quests, different recipes, spawn problems, or connection errors.
The project page displayed 677,601 total downloads and the files page displayed 680,005 on October 15, 2026. Those are changing page counters, not a stable measure of active players or server population.

Install the client with a CurseForge-compatible launcher
The documented distribution route is CurseForge. You can use the CurseForge app itself or another launcher that can import CurseForge modpacks.
- Install a compatible launcher. Complete the launcher’s normal Minecraft account and game-directory setup before importing the pack.
- Find the official project. Search for Seaopolis: Submerged and select the project by benbenlaw. Check the author and pack name so you do not install an unrelated similarly named profile.
- Select the required release. For a new world, choose the 4.1 profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. If you are joining an existing server, select the exact release specified by that server instead of automatically upgrading.
- Install the profile. Let the launcher download the mod files, configuration, scripts, and resource files into its managed instance.
- Launch once before changing settings. The first run allows the profile to create its configuration and saves folders. Wait for the game to reach the title screen, then close it cleanly before copying worlds or troubleshooting.
Do not install individual mods by hand unless you are deliberately maintaining a test instance. The pack’s recipes, configurations, quest data, and inter-mod integrations are intended to arrive together through the profile.

What the first launch confirms
- The launcher selected Minecraft 1.20.1 rather than another Minecraft version.
- The instance is using Forge, not Fabric or a different loader.
- The Seaopolis profile reaches the title screen without a missing-mod error.
- The game creates a separate instance directory, so it does not overwrite another modpack’s saves.
Set up a Seaopolis: Submerged server
Multiplayer is an intended use case: the project publishes a dedicated server pack that matches the client release. A hosted server can make installation, backups, and uptime easier, while a self-hosted machine gives you direct control over files and network settings. The exact control-panel screens, Java settings, memory flags, and hardware requirements vary by host and are not universal pack values.
Prepare the server files
- Choose the release first. For a new 4.1 world, download
Seaopolis- Submerged-4.1_server_pack.zipfrom the official files listing. If the group already has a 4.0 or 3.x world, obtain the server pack for that same release instead. - Create a clean server directory. Extract the server archive into the directory used by your Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge server. Do not merge it into an unrelated modpack directory; old mods and configuration files can create conflicts that look like pack bugs.
- Install the Forge server for Minecraft 1.20.1. Use the Forge server files expected by the pack and your host. A provider’s installer or panel may automate this step, but it still needs to be configured for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Start the server once. The first start generates the standard server files and stops or refuses to continue until Mojang’s EULA requirement has been handled.
- Accept the EULA through the generated server process. Review the EULA file and follow the normal server startup procedure required by your host. Do not assume a control panel has completed this step unless its log confirms a successful start.
- Start again and watch the log. Wait for the server to finish loading the pack before connecting. A complete startup should proceed past mod loading and expose the normal server-ready state rather than ending with a dependency or registry error.
- Back up the new world before inviting players. Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration directories, and keep a dated backup outside the live server directory.
Hosted-server considerations
Managed hosting can reduce the work of installing Forge, scheduling backups, and keeping a server online, but no particular provider, plan, price, performance level, or affiliate arrangement is established for Seaopolis: Submerged 4.1 here. Before paying for a host, verify that it supports Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, permits custom modpack files or the official server pack, and provides a way to restore backups. Treat any provider’s advertised player capacity as its own claim rather than as a requirement supplied by the modpack.

Make clients and server connect successfully
Every player should install the client profile corresponding to the server’s release. After the server is fully started, players open Minecraft’s multiplayer screen, add or select the server address supplied by the host, and connect.
- The client’s Minecraft version must be 1.20.1.
- The client must use Forge.
- The client pack release must be the same one used by the server pack.
- All players should launch the same profile rather than a manually assembled collection of mods.
- When a server owner changes pack versions, everyone should close the game, update the profile, and make a fresh backup before loading the world again.
For a private group, the server owner can distribute the address and access rules through the group’s normal channel. If you are trying to join a community or official server, use the current address and instructions published by its operators; addresses and access policies can change independently of the modpack files.

Survival pressure comes first
The starting room is below the ocean, so the opening game is shaped by water access, oxygen management, limited space, and the need to establish a safe work area. Treat the initial room as a staging base: organize storage, keep essential tools accessible, and expand only when you can protect the new area from the surrounding environment.
Quests provide the route forward
The quest system gives the pack its progression structure. Use objectives to determine which materials and machines are worth making next instead of crafting every available item immediately. When a recipe appears unfamiliar, check the quest context and the recipe viewer in the installed pack; a release change can alter both the recipe and the item needed to complete an objective.

Automation follows resource stability
Strainers and the technology progression supplied by Thermal Series and Opolis Utilities support the move from manual collection to repeatable processing. Build a dependable basic resource loop before investing in larger automation. Underwater construction space is more constrained than a conventional overworld base, so compact layouts and clearly separated machine areas are easier to maintain.
Exploration expands the world
The customized world includes mobs and structures, and the progression eventually reaches the Nether. Exploration is therefore part of advancement rather than an optional sightseeing activity. Secure a return route and storage plan before carrying rare materials away from the starting base.
Roomopolis changes construction work
Roomopolis is included to make underwater room creation easier. Its purpose is to reduce the frustration of building enclosed spaces under water, not to remove all survival pressure. You still need to plan access, lighting, storage, and the movement of items and fluids through the base.

Begin every support conversation by recording the installed pack release, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and whether the problem occurs on a client, a server, or both. The B3.0 changelog demonstrates why this matters: it lists additions including FTB Chunks, FTB Essentials, Polymorph, Polymorphic Energistics, Visual Workbenches, Packet Fixer, and Pipez. It also records extra Curios slots and Water Curio, which can let a player remain in water without always wearing a diving suit. A guide written for one release can therefore give the wrong answer for another.

Spawn location is wrong or the player appears somewhere unexpected
- Confirm that the client and server use the same pack release.
- Confirm that both use Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge.
- Check that the server directory contains the intended server-pack files rather than remnants from another release.
- Make a backup before attempting any world or player-data change.
- If the issue remains, use the project’s official Discord or support channel with the version details and relevant log excerpt.
Reports of spawn problems exist, but there is no authoritative universal workaround. Do not delete player data or regenerate the world as a first response; those actions can destroy progress.
Quests are missing or do not advance
- Verify that the client actually launched the Seaopolis profile, not vanilla Minecraft or a different instance.
- Compare the client ZIP and server-pack release.
- Check whether the world was created under an older release before updating.
- Restart both the client and server after confirming the files.
- Capture the quest screen and logs before asking for help, so support can distinguish a display issue from a missing-data issue.
Recipes do not match the guide or the server
Recipe changes can be legitimate release differences. Check the installed recipe viewer and quest requirements first, then compare the release identifiers. Avoid copying a recipe from a 3.x or B-series discussion into a 4.1 world without confirming that the item still exists and is configured the same way.

- Read the first dependency, registry, or mod-loading error in the log rather than the final shutdown line.
- Check for leftover mods or configuration files from another pack.
- Confirm that the server is running the Forge build intended for Minecraft 1.20.1.
- Re-extract a clean copy of the matching server pack if files are missing or have been edited.
- Do not add random replacement mods to silence an error; that can create a client-server mismatch.
Players receive a mismatch or cannot join
Have the affected player compare the profile name, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and pack release with the server owner’s records. A fresh client instance is often a safer diagnostic than repeatedly modifying a working profile. If only one player fails while others connect, compare that player’s instance files and launcher profile before changing the server.
Updating without losing a world
- Write down the current client and server release.
- Stop the server cleanly and make a complete backup of the world, player data, and configuration.
- Read the newer release notes or changelog for additions and recipe changes.
- Install the new server pack into a separate directory or staging copy.
- Test the backup world on the new files before exposing it to the group.
- Have every player update to the same client profile only after the server test succeeds.
- Keep the old server directory and backup until the group has confirmed that quests, inventories, bases, and connections work.
Never treat an update as a cosmetic launcher change. New or removed mods, altered registries, and changed recipes can affect existing chunks and progression.
Is Seaopolis: Submerged on Modrinth?
The independent setup guide reports that the pack is not distributed on Modrinth. Use the official CurseForge project and files listing for the client and server downloads, and be cautious with third-party reuploads that may be incomplete or tied to a different release.
